What can they know of the thousands of men they can't see? How do they communicate with their own men, and with the other men giving orders ? Command and control - how did they do it ?

Modern Greece existed before Otto. We had Kapodistrias and he was murdered by big forces because they didn't want an independent Greece. Also, Greece existed through Turkish rule and through eastern Roman empire. And if you are looking for proof on continuity between ancient and modern Greece let me know.
