Honestly I hope that he is the one to break Honky Tonk mans record, then within a year we can see him excel in the main event scene and capture the WWE/ Universal title. Lol
While there were a few exceptions with both titles, at the height of Hulkamania, if you held the world title, you was the “face” of the company. but if you held the IC title, you was the “heart” of the company for your in-ring work. I miss the golden “WWF” days when every wrestler in each division only had “three belts” to feud over. The titles meant more back in the day imo-as each Tag Team, Intercontinental and World Heavyweight champ felt like the best of the best in their respective classes. As much as I love the attitude era, I felt all three of those titles lost much of their prestige when they began adding other niche titles, and more title changes started to take place on the regular basis. People don't realize during that era in the WWF, the IC title was held in higher regard than the World Title. The World Champion was who the best entertainer was, not the best "wrestler." Every comment section there are marks who list wrestlers who should have been world champion. How could all those guys all have a run with the world title in that era? Macho man 💪
Forever Razor Ramon as IC
My top 10
1- Mr Perfect
2- Bret hart
3- Razor Ramon
4- Rick Rude
5- Shawn Michael's
6- Macho man
7- The Honky-tonk man
8- Ultimate warrior
9- Y2J
10- The Miz
I would have put Jeff Jarrett on that list.
There's like 10 other guys you could've put instead of miz but other than that not bad
I freaking love The Honkey Tonk Man. I love heels to begin with but as a fellow Memphian I was just soo happy every time he had a match back then and never wanted him to lose
Mr. Perfect, Million Dollar Man, Jake The Snake, Rick Rude should've all held, or at the very least, had a program with the heavyweight championship!
Scott hall
I think ted di biase did
People don't realize during that era in the WWF, the IC title was held in higher regard than the World Title. The World Champion was who the best entertainer was, not the best "wrestler."
Every comment section there are marks who list wrestlers who should have been world champion. How could all those guys all have a run with the world title in that era? If everyone gets a run with the belt it would lose the prestige, plus it wouldn't be logical being there's only so many days in the year... It all comes from the "Everyone gets a Trophy" mentality.
@@albertofava865 He attempted to buy it from Andre the Giant, but this was never recognized by the WWE and the title was vacated leading to the tournament that ended with the Macho Man as the champ.
I was always a Mr perfect fan! Even when he was a heel. Then I was a hbk fan lol so I guess Mr perfect would be my number 1 wrestler then hbk. I used to think it was hbk 1st but I'ma have to say perfect all day man!!!!!
Honky Tonk Man lost the IC Title to The Ultimate Warrior in 1988 not 1998
Not mentioning Gunther as of now is something of a crime imo. The sheer *legitimacy* he brings to the belt is insane, with legit main eventers going for it! The iron man performance at the Rumble!!
I feel that Savage gave the IC title a lot of kudos and so did HONKY with that long run....HBK probably elevated it to its highest point.
I totally forgot that Razor used to threaten the guy before every match… “Something happens to this gold… Something gonna happen to you.” 😂
The man said the Honky Tonk Man had the belt from 87-98 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bret "Hitman" Hart vs British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith: The Battle of The Brothers In Law over the World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Championship Belt, Summerslam 1992, Wembley Stadium, London, England.
The 2nd Greatest Intercontinental Championship Match in Summerslam History. 1991 being the 1st.
1. Floyd Mayweather vs Big Show
2. Seth Rollins vs Cody Rhodes
3. Bret vs Owen hart
4. Randy vs Undertaker
5. Steamboat vs Randy Savage (IC title)
6. Stone Cold vs Kevin Owens
7. Edge and Christian vs Dudleys vs Hardyz (tag title)
8. Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar (WWE title)
9. Firefly fun house Cena vs Wyatt
10. Bianca vs Sasha (Women's title)
11. Rock vs Hogan
12. Benoit vs HHH vs HBK (World Heavyweight Championship)
Love or hate the Miz...he has been consistently featured on WWE...and has had alot of success...his intercontinental championship run have been of the best of the modern ERA 👌🏻💯... definitely a workhorse in WWE
The miz wouldn't even be in the top 30 greatest ic champs of all time. He shouldn't be anywhere near this list
Um.. you might want to check your audio a bit better. You said that Honky held the belt from June 13th 1987 until August 29th 1998. I guess Wayne's run a lot longer than I realized. lol
Great list and great talents... Seeing Hobbs when against Warlow last night reminded me of Rude and Bobby The Brain against TUW!
Bret is my all time favourite.
I met HTM once and he told me Macho was among IC champs who were better.
The Miz in 2016 was on another level, The promo he cut on Daniel bryan on talking smack was easily one of the best promos ever.
You got a name like Shawn Michaels yet your glorifying the miz? He shouldn't be anywhere near this list he couldn't make top 30
FACTS dude.
There's been a lot of classic promos since the beginning of wrestling dude, I doubt the miz promo your talking about would even make the top 100. If you don't know wrestling don't talk about it lol
Love seeing Mr. Perfect front and center.
I was at Summer Slam 88 and saw Honky Tonk man get squashed in the Garden. I was 8 and I’ll never forget that moment. Warrior’s pop was electric and never stopped from becoming to end. I was so happy to see him lose 😂
I know it’s too early to say cuz he’s currently holding it but I feel like you should’ve mentioned Gunther, he’s having an all time GOAT run with the belt and probably a world title run after it, he’s an absolute machine rn
You had some Jericho looks that I’ve never seen before 😮
You keep referring to Summerslam 1998 when the Ultimate Warrior took the Honky Tonk Man's IC title, but it was 1988.
A "Simply Ravishing Reign" for Rick Rude in 1989 at WrestleMania V. Well deserved.
You forgot Muraco and Santana.
I had the honor of being at SummerSlam 1992 from top to bottom it was great . The best was saved for last though Bret vs Bulldog was brilliant .
It’s a crime Mr. Perfect didn’t have a World Championship run. Such a shame. Damn injuries
Currently, "Imperium's" Leader, Gunther is the 89th Man in WWE History to carry the Intercontinental Championship Belt. He is officially on the "Top 10 List" eclipsing Randy Orton and Ken Patera, en route towards "The Hammer".
Ultimate Warrior is an underrated IC champion.
U forgot TITO SANTANA
He was a big name B4 all the rest
For me the first 1 who elevated the BELT
Pretty right on list. I would add RVD too.
The miz don't belong
Randy savage and shawn held that title like it was a baby, something precious that needed to be protected. Bret wore it like it was the world title. And Miz put in so much work to make it matter again at a time when the world title wasnt seen because the champion didnt want fo work
Hey Andy can you do a video on the different wwe belts and their importance such as the hard-core, heavyweight, international, cruiserweight and wwe championship, please and rank them as which one was seen as to hold the most prestige.
Can you do WWE's Greatest United States Champion?
MACHO MAN GREATEST IC CHAMP IN MY EYES. LOVE THAT ITERATION OF THE BELT
Outstanding video! Very informative. Thanks
Rip Rude,Warrior,Perfect,Piper my heroes
