Dick gave a clinic at a festival I played at in high school. His understanding of scales and chord structure surpassed what I had thought was possible. Absolutely incredible improviser and probably the best alto player of our generation.

Im only 14 but I have been into jazz awhile and play alto and hope to be pro one day. Any practice tips?

Practice and play every chance you get. Learn your standards in every key. A different standard each day. Jerry Coker's "Patterns for Jazz".
Practice your modes, it helps alot with technique
Practice with a metronome, ticking once every measure (I put it on the 1)! It'll be hard at first, but the challenge should develop your sense of time and help you play with a band more since you learn to play in time.

Although Dick may be even an expert, I really prefer Danny's solo, much more creative, open, interesting. I know it's a dream now, but I can imagine Danny playing with the great Phil Woods, my favorite player. I prefer people who make remarkable melodies, like Phil Woods, Toots Thielemans, Bill Evans, Arturo Sandoval and some other fellows.
