The whole ”orks can make anything work by believing” is how the Mechanicus percieve it, since they can’t figure out how haphazard technology could work. Orks are degenerated Krorks, who’s thing was being genetically coded to build whatever they need with whatever materials encountered. Orks just don’t know it themselves, but they can build functioning equipment from basically anything due to genetic coding. Nothing that would be beyond the Dark Mechanicum or Vashtorr to grasp. Everything tech in 40k lore is mostly told from the perspective of AdMech weirdos.

I was looking for a chaos god to be the god of the men of iron and I honestly forgot about this guy. Interestingly he has a rival in the material universe that has become known as the void dragon. For the AdMechs this would be their true God and for the dark mechs they might worship both willingly. Vashtorr could use his infinite technological knowledge of the material realm, since he seeks devices that he himself helped to create. Anyway I am designing a DAoT sun snuffer and trying to find a way to bring it into the current setting, I'm stuck at it got into a massive battle after draining a star and ended up expanding all of it's energy in the process, so it has just been sitting there for thousands of years orbiting a dead star. I need a being of incredible power to get it going again and he will do, or some Necron lord finds it or something like that. This is a massive construct mind you, I am using the greater Halo rings as a starting point because they supposedly expand to a little larger than the rings of Saturn, several hundred thousand miles in other words. I'm thinking that the men of iron took inspiration from Necron technology or at least C'tan technology which is basically the same thing, they were inspired by the void dragon who whispers to them from it's slumber to build this thing, this being used to do this for sustainance mind you. I'm also thinking about giving it an inertialess drive since it's obviously too massive to enter the warp safely, plus it would come in handy for handling the massive gravity of a star with such a massive construct. I see no reason why they didn't have some slower alternative FTL travel, the Necrons certainly did. Certain factions could have had webway tunnels for all we know. I think the emperor just took over the webway project from the DAoT and some factions may have had working prototypes for it already. Input and ideas in this regard are always appreciated btw, my lore still has a long way to go.
A new deity for the dark mechanicum to get behind would increase their power and prowess, plus the only chaos being that could potentially persuade Perturabo to form an alliance (chaos within, chaos without). Plenty of opportunity for a rise of the dark harbingers of iron 😎

I think it’s pretty cannon that there’s plenty of lesser deities within the warp, and even the realm of Chaos. The four proper gods are just the main pantheon, and there’s probably something that dictates who can be a true god. Gork and Mork are gods within the warp, but not in the realm of Chaos. There’s nothing saying that the realm can’t expand AFAIK. I think there’s room to feel free making up minor deities, aspects of the gods and anything but a new major player. The big four feed of the strongest emotions/concepts, so it’s about proportionality. There’s bound to be some warp entity of failed rigid bureaucracy and anything else you can imagine. Whatever humans engage the most with will grow. That’s the beauty of 40k: there’s always room for you to make it your own!

Vashtorr remembers the War in Heaven. He might even have been birthed by the torment of the wasted Necrontyr souls at the time of the biotransferance (note: C'tans feed on materium's energies, not on warpspawned souls).
Though it isn't clear what sustainance they gained from souls they definitely ate them as well. It's arguable that they didn't devour them completely and merely drained a part of their essence that resides in the material realm. I think it's that transfer of energy from the material to the warp that they ate and since they can never consume them entirely they just used that constant energy flow. Perhaps it is what made them susceptible to warp energy, otherwise it is totally neutral to them.

While from a Necrontyr/Necron POV it will look and feel as if the C'tans ate their souls (9th and 10th editions heavily shifted the POV from Imperial/neutral-centric to the inside knowledge and biases of the different races), the warp is an anathema to these beings (see codexes 3rd through 8th edition); they cannot interact with it more than a demon (sensu pop-culture) can handle Holy water, less so gain nourishment from it. I like your interpretation, as in various versions of their descriptions C'tans are said to feast on either "life essence" or "life energies", so they could devour the material equivalent of the soul or that and the multidimensional (still Materium, but n-dimensional) link to the warp. This would also go hand in hand with Szeras’ failures, since their souls and grasp on them seem to be utterly lost: as the C'tans had no link or knowledge of the means of the warp, the biotransferance process severed (and swallowed) that thread, as it was never part of the design. That said, Necrontyrs always had a tenuous link to the realm of souls (similarly to the T’aus), and it goes to show how much the Warp influences the psyche of a species in the 40K setting, even before it stirred and spawned actual daemons.

@RebelWvlf Malal is the entity that Malice is based on. Malal is not cannon due to copyright issues from 1st edition warhammer shenanigans. Malice however is cannon. Malice in 40k is only a minor warp God, and rarely has any influence on things. Even the sons of Malice are not seen often. Partially because the writers don't want too many parallels drawn to bait any copyright questionability, and partially because from a lore perspective the Sons of Malice actively thin thier own numbers in rituals to try and summon Malice to real space. That and they are against EVERYONE. A small force with no allies usually don't do too well in 40k. In a nutshell. Malice is cannon, but will most likely be forever irrelevant to the story unless GW gains ownership of Malal and they want to start an Anti-Chaos vs. Chaos story arc.

am I the only one seeing a potential connection between this would-be chaos god and the darktide 40k game? nurgle is presented as the primary big-bad in the game, orchestrating things and whatnot, but there have been consistant and mounting hints at another faction, or influence working in the shadows. The enemy factions in game seem to be ever-seeking to capture the hive cities’ manufactorums, forges, fabled moebian steel production, even the heretical grimoires you can pick up have gears and cogs spinning all over them. In addition, many of the moebian 6th enemies have the signature yellow on black hazard stripes of the iron warriors, and the lore for them in game is that they unexpectadly returned in their corrupted form that we see, from the black of space where they had until that time been MIA. maybe I’m reaching but I could see them wanting continuity with the tabletop current setting as well as the games that are out right now, and vashtor has been getting a lot of hype and speculation. I also think that the portayal of the “cult of admonition” in darktide kind of makes them seek like they’re being used in some way by the 6th. They feign aligiance to the cult but it really seems like there are alterior motives. lots of people are speculating about genestealer cult activity elsewhere on the forge world, there are references to a sister hive-city that has gone dark and I recognize that this could also be true.
Belakor to Chaos - Am I a joke to you? Jokes aside its funny to me that Belakor was given powers from all 4 Chaos Gods as a pseudo first of his kind experiment and then he rebelled against them for obvious power reasons, they then tried to take his powers back from him but realised he was way too powerful and couldn't before saying "It is what it isssss" and deciding to NEVER let someone serve all of them as an Undivided Ascended Daemon Prince again. With that in mind if we do get a new Chaos God anytime soon I wanna just have some written confirmation of Belakor's salt lmao it would be insane.

I'd be okay with a fifth Chaos God on two conditions: 1. They're centered around an *actual* specific human vice/depravity which they advance, *not covered by the previous four.* 2. There's an additional sixth Chaos God, whose domain of vice is in opposition to that of the fifth. If Vashtorr could represent a will for some deep form of cold industrial dehumanization (though that may come off as too Necron?) with a rival in the form of a mindlessly wild animalistic degenerate, maybe there's some possibility. I'm not sure.

Vice would need to arise from a being which actually possesses some sense of self, not simply living out a mere animal compulsion. Even if we were to judge the Hive mind as a single thinking and self-aware individual, we have no reason to think that it's hunger is due to any form of excess on it's part. Rather it may simply be living out it's biological prerogative to eat and propagate itself, as any creature does.

Vashtorr remembers the War in Heaven. He might even have been birthed by the torment of the wasted Necrontyr souls at the time of the biotransferance (note: C'tans feed on materium's energies, not on warpspawned souls).
Though it isn't clear what sustainance they gained from souls they definitely ate them as well. It's arguable that they didn't devour them completely and merely drained a part of their essence that resides in the material realm. I think it's that transfer of energy from the material to the warp that they ate and since they can never consume them entirely they just used that constant energy flow. Perhaps it is what made them susceptible to warp energy, otherwise it is totally neutral to them.

While from a Necrontyr/Necron POV it will look and feel as if the C'tans ate their souls (9th and 10th editions heavily shifted the POV from Imperial/neutral-centric to the inside knowledge and biases of the different races), the warp is an anathema to these beings (see codexes 3rd through 8th edition); they cannot interact with it more than a demon (sensu pop-culture) can handle Holy water, less so gain nourishment from it.
I like your interpretation, as in various versions of their descriptions C'tans are said to feast on either "life essence" or "life energies", so they could devour the material equivalent of the soul or that and the multidimensional (still Materium, but n-dimensional) link to the warp. This would also go hand in hand with Szeras’ failures, since their souls and grasp on them seem to be utterly lost: as the C'tans had no link or knowledge of the means of the warp, the biotransferance process severed (and swallowed) that thread, as it was never part of the design.
That said, Necrontyrs always had a tenuous link to the realm of souls (similarly to the T’aus), and it goes to show how much the Warp influences the psyche of a species in the 40K setting, even before it stirred and spawned actual daemons.

@RebelWvlf Malal is the entity that Malice is based on. Malal is not cannon due to copyright issues from 1st edition warhammer shenanigans. Malice however is cannon.
Malice in 40k is only a minor warp God, and rarely has any influence on things. Even the sons of Malice are not seen often. Partially because the writers don't want too many parallels drawn to bait any copyright questionability, and partially because from a lore perspective the Sons of Malice actively thin thier own numbers in rituals to try and summon Malice to real space. That and they are against EVERYONE. A small force with no allies usually don't do too well in 40k.
In a nutshell. Malice is cannon, but will most likely be forever irrelevant to the story unless GW gains ownership of Malal and they want to start an Anti-Chaos vs. Chaos story arc.

@@darkly7378Malal is non-canon due to copyright, so he was replaced with malice. There is a difference, and by technicality malice still exists but is so minor it makes no difference. Malal, on the other hand, does not because Malal was the copyright issue.
am I the only one seeing a potential connection between this would-be chaos god and the darktide 40k game? nurgle is presented as the primary big-bad in the game, orchestrating things and whatnot, but there have been consistant and mounting hints at another faction, or influence working in the shadows. The enemy factions in game seem to be ever-seeking to capture the hive cities’ manufactorums, forges, fabled moebian steel production, even the heretical grimoires you can pick up have gears and cogs spinning all over them. In addition, many of the moebian 6th enemies have the signature yellow on black hazard stripes of the iron warriors, and the lore for them in game is that they unexpectadly returned in their corrupted form that we see, from the black of space where they had until that time been MIA. maybe I’m reaching but I could see them wanting continuity with the tabletop current setting as well as the games that are out right now, and vashtor has been getting a lot of hype and speculation. I also think that the portayal of the “cult of admonition” in darktide kind of makes them seek like they’re being used in some way by the 6th. They feign aligiance to the cult but it really seems like there are alterior motives. lots of people are speculating about genestealer cult activity elsewhere on the forge world, there are references to a sister hive-city that has gone dark and I recognize that this could also be true.
Vashtorr seems like the 40K version of Hashut from Warhammer Fantasy.

Jokes aside its funny to me that Belakor was given powers from all 4 Chaos Gods as a pseudo first of his kind experiment and then he rebelled against them for obvious power reasons, they then tried to take his powers back from him but realised he was way too powerful and couldn't before saying "It is what it isssss" and deciding to NEVER let someone serve all of them as an Undivided Ascended Daemon Prince again. With that in mind if we do get a new Chaos God anytime soon I wanna just have some written confirmation of Belakor's salt lmao it would be insane.

I'd be okay with a fifth Chaos God on two conditions:
1. They're centered around an *actual* specific human vice/depravity which they advance, *not covered by the previous four.*
2. There's an additional sixth Chaos God, whose domain of vice is in opposition to that of the fifth.
If Vashtorr could represent a will for some deep form of cold industrial dehumanization (though that may come off as too Necron?) with a rival in the form of a mindlessly wild animalistic degenerate, maybe there's some possibility. I'm not sure.
So if there was a Tyranid god for hunger... What would be their rival/opposite?

JK. In actual seriousness, I don't think the base instinctual drive of the Tyranid hive mind qualifies as a "vice". Vice would need to arise from a being which actually possesses some sense of self, not simply living out a mere animal compulsion.
Even if we were to judge the Hive mind as a single thinking and self-aware individual, we have no reason to think that it's hunger is due to any form of excess on it's part. Rather it may simply be living out it's biological prerogative to eat and propagate itself, as any creature does.

@@Geff11733 yes and no. Technology in of itself is neutral, it can be used for many things. It can be used to change the status quo, it can be used to trap people in an unchanging dystopia, it can be used to wage war, or to manufacture drugs. Hence why vashtorr funds the four in the great game.
