Ravnica, a plane covered entirely by city-scape and governed by ten guilds, bound together by the living Guildpact, Niv-Mizzet, a mighty dragon avatar made of mizzium and crystal. All too recently this ecumenopolis played host to a devastating war brought on by the machinations of the Elder Dragon Planeswalker Nicol Bolas. Though defeated, the ancient villain’s impact was still felt even as a new cosmic threat streaked across the sky in the form of a comet. In the city below, three Planeswalkers, Masters of their Guilds, set about their day.

Pls more of this
Your videos are always awesome. I was wondering, have you ever done 3 draft booster boxes, vs 3 set booster boxes to see which has the greater value at the end of the 6?
I wanna volunteer to be a reader with you. We could start an MTG storytime for kids weekly or monthly thing. We could shorten the stories on the MTG site down to like a page or two and kids could listen for bedtime :)
hey Prof, I am looking at backing the Kickstarter, but I live in a far-flung corner of the world and want to know if there is a way to estimate shipping to avoid paying hundreds of dollars. Hope anyone reading this has a great day. :)
that's easy greatest villain is Hasbro
As someone who doesn’t read the lore it is nice to have a visual/audio option to learn some of it.
@@catalinapostol5799 OUCH.
I couldn't agree more. I don't ever really care for lore but this was very entertaining.
Spoiler: They killed Jace
These comics are not canon. Fabulous, but not canon.
@@MagicArcanum you’re still number one!
Man, when it rains, it pours on Ravnica. Having the vaccum that House Dimir's absence and Lazav's potential death would probably be catastrophic from a plane trying to recover from the Lazotep disco rave.
Thankfully this isn’t canon
@@FlynnApollo - Thankfully? Unfortunately - the comic story is way better than the Weissman one -_-
@@KingBobXVI anything is better than that dumpster fire. But I’m not gonna trade one fanfic for another.
I mean, I highly doubt Dimir in its entirety has fallen. It's a conspiracy whose membership is burrowed deep into the fabric of Ravnican society. Agents in every guild, and everywhere else. (Not to mention what are probably countless members that, after the guild's public reveal about a century before current events, exist as part of House Dimir's public face as messengers, investigators, and archivists). Many of these people likely remain, insulated as they are through levels of secrecy, each agent only knowing their handlers, if anything at all.
What House Dimir may have lost is its overall leadership. The spider(s) sitting at the center of this web, receiving all data and issuing all commands. Setting the guild's overall agenda. House Dimir members will likely continue carrying out their last orders. Many may not even be aware they're part of the conspiracy (like all those public facing people mentioned previously, who think they're exactly what they say they are). But without direction, the conspiracy as a whole may fall into disarray. Or worse, come under the thumb of new agents, looking to usurp the network for their own ends.
Of course, given House Dimir's nature, it's likely this has happened many times before over the Guildpact's 10,000 year history.
@@Bluecho4 the comics are non canon. So literally all that typing was for a non canon story.
Thank you for putting a spotlight on the Boom Comics! I've been LOVING the series so far
My pleasure!
@@TolarianCommunityCollege Awesome Prof. I love that you give just enough to really hook people into the story and to read the comics rather then just explain the full 10 issue spread.
Speaks volumes about what type of content creator you are.
One does not simply walk into, let alone blow up Duskmantle. Lazav has probably shapeshifted into a rock somewhere.
Lazav continues to "Rock" on...
Everyone is Lazav
The boom studios comics are my favorite thing to happen in magic story in years. Just gorgeously written.
Agreed.
Yes! Magic lore has been lacking for a while but I love this series!
these aren't actually canon, if you aren't aware
@@jakebennett9130 Yeah? Let's them tell way cooler stories to not be beholden to the main canon
I'm in love with this non-canonical story. Thank you for bringing it here!
Glad you enjoy it!
Woah, a mtg story with characters, a plot that meaningfully progresses, and stakes we can care about? What a nice treat!
And that’s why it’s non-canon
Goah, i love Jed Mackay's writing. He's doing the current Moon Knight comic as well, which is fighting for Immortal Hulk for my favourite comic of all time.
I seriously love these deep dives! I've been reading these issues every month, and this perfectly encapsulates them!
I started MTG with guilds of ravnica and fell in love with the Dimir, more of these please
Wonderful comics, actually, I've been loving the development so far, even if I'm not fond of the characters. Still, I can't quite get over how, literally days after I declared this comic the best Vorthos addition in 2021, I learn that it's non-canon.
Damn, it isnt? I guess it makes sense that they're not killing off a major Ravnican guild in a book only a fraction of a fraction of MTG players will read, or even know about. Still, its a bummer, as it kind of takes the wind from the sails of this story
@@niedude Yeah, they announced it in a livestream iirc. It's really unfortunate, because I really did like the story and I thought Jace's death was really well done.
Let me guess, the War of the Spark novels still *are* canon?
@@donnylurch4207 Not if I had anything to say about it.
@@The_Loreseeker I think the Vorthos community ought to just wrest control of canon from WOTC if they can't give us what we want and stick with it. A little creative anarchy, if you will. Domri would have wanted it that way.
What a great edit, the editor did a great job making the suspense of the story real through clever choices in its editing!
I have a great team!
I truly enjoy lore videos, it's so interesting to see beyond the card game
Love the way you narrate the store line. Would love to see/hear more of this. I'm a truck driver who loves Magic since it's beginning. And watching videos isn't much of an option but listening is
Good to see the Boom! comics get more attention. Such a pain that they're considered non-canon by WotC as there's lots of fun stuff happening in them.
This is absolutely amazing. Please do more of these! Loved every minute of it!
They had a secret rendezvous! The best white card draw spell ever!!
Ah, a fellow Richard Stan
This series is amazing. I thoroughly enjoy your combination of reading and the visuals. Please keep them going.
I love these videos the MOST, professor! You are a story teller at heart! More of these videos please!! 💕
I would love to see more content like this from you, Professor! This really was a treat.
I love listening to your lore videos. So great for the drive to work!
Really love those deep dives thanks for the great video as always professor!
amazingly narrated prof!! I avidly listened the whole thing!
This video is great! Your voice manages to create the perfect mood for the story.
I'm honestly loving the character development! I can't wait for more.
Awesome video prof! Excellent work as always!
I really appreciate Lore videos! Thank you, Prof.
Love these! Keep up the great work Prof!
Very well done Prof!
The Video editing & your narration are Top Notch!
Can we carry on with this audiobook version? I would love to have this as a series with the Professor’s voice over the top
I think the series is actually a graphic novel and prof wrote this videos script himself
@@koruto721 Yes that's exactly what I meant, I'd love for Brian to continue narrating the graphic novel in this style as a series.
@@jonlangthorne7924 yeah that would be awesome, hope he sees your comment lol
That. was. AWESOME!!! Thank you so much for always putting your heart and soul in everything you do, Prof.
I appreciate that!
Thanks, Prof! Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this. Would love more lore videos!
Thank you for this video!!!
Loved it! I’ll have to go pick up the rest of them
I love this series! I have been collecting every issue and I think it's great. Some more videos discussing this story would be much appreciated! Especially whether or not you think it will tie in to future sets.
"we've decided that 10 was too much so we removed a guild"
this explains why they don't reprint that plluted delta
This is awesome! Hooked on the story and lore. I rarely comment and like videos (not that all your videos don’t warrant it) but this certainty deserved it in my eyes since I didn’t know how much I wanted this content. If Magic lore was always presented like this I would be way more into it.
This is so good that i want more so much more, great work prof as usual !
Really liked this. Can't wait for more stories Prof!
More to come!
Ravnica will always hold a place in my heart as the first set (well the Return to at least) I attended regular events at my lgs. Getting more stories from the plane makes me so happy, but I wouldn't have known about it without your vid. Thanks Prof
Thank you so much for this synopsis!
Omg I'm so happy your covering this
I am currently reading and keeping up with the release !
Love it when he pans over all the art and narrarates, makes me nostalgic for the early days of the channel. Great vid, one of the most iconic planes.
I love these, thank you for the lore videos, Prof.!
Wow thats some great story. Please continue telling us the rest, Prof!
Thanks for putting a spotlight on this! I didn't even know this series of comics existed before seeing this video. Thank you Professor!
I completely forgotten about MTG lore, and this was a great video that lured me back in. Thanks Prof!
This was great! I hope you can find time to do more like this video!
I have been unable to find discussions of this comic series on any of the lore sites I frequent. I do hope you continue to cover the comics in this fashion because there are a couple of HUGE plot points coming.
To this day I'm not a BIG Magic player. I got into MTG because of the lore, and that's what I mostly follow on RUclips and social media. This format of content for me at least then? AMAZING!!! Thank you Prof.!
More more more! Even after reading the comics it's a delight to watch/listen to this video.
Man, you have one of the best reading voices I've ever heard. The perfect blend of being calm and easy to hear while making the events feel important and interesting.
Thanks for listening
Love this type of deep dive video from you.
Great video! Would love to see more of this
Thatk You for making me Discover this line of comics! Really being back to the short stories that "sparked" the whole Bolas arc from the theft of the Dragon Scroll.
Love this type of videos ! Go Prof !
This is sick! Please make more!!
Glad to see these comics getting the attention they deserve! I expected these comics to be just side adventures but some of these big twists have me wondering how it may tie into the upcoming sets.
Really great, please do more lore videos. I love this style of content!
Thank you professor, lore videos are my faves
Prof this was excellent!!
Great video prof, thanks for sharing! I didnt even know these comics existed
Outstanding editing, as usual.
Excellent work sir!
Oh my God I loved this!
I'm begging you prof, do more like this!
Give us our required History credit!
This was SO cool to watch!
This could be a bit of a series! Keep going please!
I love these story videos from the prof.!
Wow. I love your content Prof but this video was especially fun! As a relatively new player to Magic, I haven't found a great way to engage with the lore, so this was a fun way for me to experience this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This great idea to do for lore story's so help ppl catch up and see how cards are connected with each other
I love this lore videos, Profesor. Thanks.
More to come!
As someone who just got back into magic, but did play with ravnica plane years ago;
This video hooked me! I was so engaged and invested!
I was like “NOOOO WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!?”
That’s hard to do to me, so we’ll done professor!
Thanks for this! Only just became aware of the series, around issue 8, so this is a groovy recap until I can score some back-issues.
I was not aware this existed, and I humbly thank you Proffesor for bringing it to light.
I love that you do this stuff can't wait to watch it!
I am reading The Thran now on my journey through mtg novels before The Brother's War releases. I havent read any novel since Scourge so I wanted to go back through them. I wanted to support this content though
Well told sir, and the artwork is fabulous. Reminds me of Heavy Metal.
These are amazing!
Awesome! I'll go pick up this series.
Awesome, love to see more of these
That was a great visual/audio experience. Seems like a very compelling and fun story (It also helps that the Prof. has a great story-telling voice). Might have to try to find some copies of these comics. Keep up the great work Prof! (and maybe make some more videos like this?)
Awesome, thank you!
That was very interesting! I will try to get these comics for myself. Thx for the tip prof!
great lecture, prof!
can you please make more videos like this, amazing work professor
i love these kinds of lore videos could you please do more?
What a lovely start to my lore journey
Bought the hard cover a month or so ago and I really enjoyed it! The writing seems alot better than I expected, given the rocky history of the Magic story. The art is gorgeous, each page, maybe even each panel, has something worth spending a few moments to enjoy. I'm looking forward to reading the rest! (As long as wotc doesn't kill it before it's completed)
man i would love it if you would continue the story as it develops
Dont have time for comics. This insight was gratifying enough for me. Also, the music at the end is top notch 👌
Normally I pay no attention to books or lore of any kind coming from MTG products lately. However, as Dimir is my personal favorite, I'm going to see if my LCS has these and buy the series.
I highly doubt that Dimir is gone but it's always good to see what will influence upcoming sets.
Ravnica is my favorite setting besides Mirrodin so I would find myself at a loss if my favorite guild didn't exist in the next related release.
Don't worry, as this storyline technically isn't part of the MTG canon!
Please continue the story!
Boom! makes some of my favorite magazines.
Looks like the Professor made it past those Dimir defenses yet again!
I think this would make a great continous format :)
This was amazing and I wish that your deep dive didn't have to end here. I understand why it's just there are no comic bookstores near me. So I just don't have a way supporting any local stores and getting my hands on these. So i guess I'll have to wait for a friend to get one or for someone else to post something similar of the next parts online
Love the lore videos!
more of these please :D
Kudos Prof!
Love content like this!
Thank you very much for telling us this story.
Would love to know what happens next.
More to come!
Wow!, really nice video!, can’t wait to see this comics sell in Spain
