Murgatroyds is my favourite chippie when we visit home, (Leeds) from North Yorkshire. You ordered a large haddock and opted for tea bread and butter, it's always more expensive, so I thought you were a bit harsh saying it was expensive, I don't think it is, thesedays. They also cook in beef dripping, you mentioned oil in the Manchester review, that's a no no for me. I have to say, it wasn't the best looking fish and chips I've seen from Murgatroyds. We never pay extra to eat in, you can have a better experience sat in your car in the car park, and drink dandelion and burdock pop, not tea, or go over the road and up the hill, and park overlooking Yeadon Airport. I think you're right about getting more chips in a takeaway. Thank you for the video, I really enjoyed it. xx
Murgatroyds for me. They do have a takaway entrance next door where the prices are quite a bit cheaper. We generally get takaway and go plane spotting at Yeadon Tarn view point. We have eaten inside too however the prices do increase but the experience is epic and there are larger fish and chips on the menu if you have a larger appetite.
9:24 if you noticed the bottle label had no mention of vinegar as it’s not actually vinegar it’s some watered chemicals there’s a video on RUclips explaining what it is
Glad this format hasn't gone away! Enjoyed your trips but would've missed the food match ups. By the way, still waiting for the KFC vs Jollibee rematch to decide the tie.
in modern times fish and chip restaurants and takeaways who still use plastic and foil sauce packets there's no need when there are so many more better alternatives
You can get a good plate of Fish & Chips at Morrison's for £6.99, You get a large fish, a good portion of chips and mushy peas, a table and a drink if you want Well presented and nice suroundings, Got to be the best value for money around.
The Leeds fish and chips looked better to me and probably worth the extra money. It sure I understand having bread with an already carb heavy meal but then I only discovered curry sauce last year😂. Another great video.
I used to stop in Leeds for takeaway fish & chips on my way home from Manchester to Whitby. I can't remember the place any more, but it was a great treat before completing the journey. The car smelled of fish & chips for days afterwards.
Leeds very time for me, the town I live in, Bingley, just don't seem to be able to produce fish and chips to compare with the Leeds area, last ones I bought near home had soggy chips thin fish with flat batter that slid off the fish, in future I'll travel or do without.
Glad you're back to this style of video. I thought the Manchester meal 'looked' nicer, Leeds' fish had that irregularity which means it was all batter at the edges and not so much fish, can't comment on the taste of course, but £7 cheaper is a lot.
The £7 cheaper was the differences at Murgatroyd between eating in and take away, not the deference between the two companies which only about a pound, watch it again.
@@AlanTremethick 14:59 the total cost of the sit in meal at Tony's was £13.25. Sit in at Leeds was £21.40, that's £8.15 difference, but he admitted there was more food at Leeds.
Hello, EIE. Leeds every day all day. Better looking fish and chips, sides looked better, and they also had branded condiments. Great vlog, as always. 😊😊😊
Yorkshire fish & chips always win hands down and I'm not from Yorkshire. Great seeing you back reviewing fish & chips. My wife is Thai and she absolutely loves battered fish with loads of vinegar.
I visited Murgatroyds some years ago with Yorkshire friends and it was my favourite fish and chips. Quality service and delicious food. In Yorkshire bread and butter with everything!
I'm going to be in Leeds in December from the States visiting the Royal Armouries Museum. I had already planned on trying Murgatroyds after the museum, but after this video, I'm definitely going to do it. Everything looked really good. The Manchester restaurant also looked really nice. I'm going to be staying in Manchester for three days, I'll try that one as well!!
Murgatroyds is not in the city - it’s a schlepp to get there as it’s up by Leeds Bradford Airport. A good 30 mins outside the city by car or bus depending on where you are staying. I like Murgatroyds and travel there from Skipton where I live - again about 30 mins. Nope have a lovely time here in Yorkshire.
@cazyaz523 Yes I know it's not right in the city proper, but I'll have a car and driving isn't a problem for me I'm used to it. I drive an 18 wheeler here in the states and am used to driving 500-600 miles per day, so a 30 minute drive is like walking distance to me. I'm sure I will have a great time in Yorkshire, I lived in the UK for two years and love it. My family is from the northeast originally, long before I was born.
@@GaryYork-tk2ow I hope you feel welcome when you come. I think we are a friendly county but I find the cities are not always representative - too many people in too much of a hurry. Enjoy your trip x
Leeds all the way! You get what you pay for, it was proper old fashioned Fish n Chips with bread and butter, a pot of tea, and Stokes tartar sauce, a very high end brand of sauces. The haddock looked fresher and scrumptious!
I prefer the chippy in Leeds I know it’s expensive and for me that would be a treat but you got more for your money…the chippy in manchester looks nice and is cheaper but did you have the choice of buying bread and butter? Thank you 🙏 for sharing this
Not sure about that Leeds haddock , I've had thicker plaice 🤣 , the batter looked overdone and too much of it...all very expensive as well. Manchester takes it for me on price , the better battered fish and the fact they had cod on the menu 👍
The first one looked really good, I like the extra hot water for tea, batter looks yum! 9,5 the second was nice, not as fancy!just a good no frills chippie 8
It’s a difficult one to decide. I think you got it right with the Leeds one. Yeah £7 more but you could actually see the difference between the two. Extra water for the tea, couple of slices of bread (right up my street) and the sides did look better. Especially the curry sauce.
I thought the mushy peas and curry sauce at the second place looked substandard. But, 7 pounds is a big difference in a meal. For everyday eating, the Manchester place, for a special meal the Leeds place hands down. I really need to win the lotto and have you come over and try fried catfish.
I went to Murgatroyds a few years ago, as we were staying at the Premier Inn across the road - I had what, I assume, is now the Big ‘Un (then called the Moby Dick) and it was the first time I had ever been defeated by a plate of fish and chips - great place! Curry sauce, with fish and chips? No thank you, but I guess I’m a traditionalist…
Not sure that paying over £21 for Leeds fish and chips could be classed as good value. still £13 not sure just adding a pot of hot water, and 2 slices of bread. would bring price to the over £21. If it does I would just not eat at either. and just go to a standard fish shop. And may be that is a compare the sit in vs the take out Why not try eating at the same place but at different locations. does the meal change, do you get more on your plate at one vs the other. An EG for this is Wetherspoons.

Like the combos bites you do, I was thinking in Leeds you should have tried chips, fish, mushy peas, curry sauce bite, the Leeds one for me too as bigger meal, pay for what you get don't you. Thanks. :)
I am not sure about that Murgatroyds restaurant? The food looks good, the restaurant looks good but i look at it and would rather just go to a normal fish and chip shop. £21 for fish and chips is a rip off, i don't care if you are eating in there. I can get a large cod or haddock and chips from my local for £10 and it blows that murgatroyds fish and chips away.
In London the term fish on its own without specifying any particular type means cod, but in Yorkshire it seems to be haddock. Also, a fish cake in Yorkshire is nothing at all like the thing with the same name in London. When I have fish and chips at home I like to have horseradish sauce with it.
I live near murgatroyds and must say there’s a better little fish shop just down the road. Nothing wrong with murgatroyds either just a little over priced for the name.

Vinegar first then salt. Keeps the flavour in according to the Macmaster. He has been to the Leeds one and love it.
Don't listen to the Macmaster, he's a right bellend
Second that about vinegar first then salt. 😅

Totally! The salt sticks to the vinegar that way - The other way is rubbish the vinegar washes the salt off from where you actually want it to be 👍
