Psychiatry doesn't cure the mentally ill even with the best of intentions. Joanna Moncrieff has done a good video explaining how antidepressants work. She argues they are psychoactive substances & work by DRUGGING you, they are not medicating an underlying disease, it's like a shy person taking cocaine to be confident. Also the medication might cause other psychical problems like liver damage, tardive dystonia, heart attack etc Link:

@@caketheory I hope you do understand that your comment could be extremely harmful for people struggling with schizophrenia. Drug therapy for schizophrenia has nothing in common with cocaine for a shy person, it is a necessity for people who have to go through psychosis

@@rinbrandenburg995 There's nothing wrong with taking a sedative for short term use during psychosis but all they do is drug people. There is no biological test to prove the existence of schizophrenia as a disease because it's not a disease. The reasons for schizophrenia are open to debate, I think it's a reaction to being placed in an insane world and if people find the drugs helpful then fine but they must be aware that they don't have a disease otherwise a recovery is impossible.

I love this guy, I have a similar story. I have a job now that I'm very good at AND I have schizophrenia. My illness came at the ripe age of 21 when I had my life ahead of me and I was studying. With plenty of exercising ( lots and lots of walking , running, weight training), meditating, internal scheming , diet , I'm like a 1000 times better than when I was 21. ( I think ) I'm the best employee at my company. It's a pretty intense job too , I'm a software developer whenever I think of why I don't have X in my life, I think of the devastating impact this illness had on me. My advice is to keep on trying, never ever give up trying it will get better, medicines aren't bad but you don't need a kilo of it nor do you need a million of them.

    Really enjoyed this informative interview.
I would love to hear more from Carlos like how his dx has affected his career and employment prospects.
Like does he keep his dx a secret from his employers? At what point does he tell them? Before interview or after he has been working there for a while, etc? I feel there is so much prejudice against people with MH conditions, I would love to hear how he navigated this.
He will make an amazing legal advocate for people with SZ as he has insider knowledge of the condition and how it affects people living with SZ and peoples attitudes towards those with a dx. Please do more interviews with Carlos Lauren.

For instance if there is a scratching in the background do people with schizophrenia interpret it as a voice similar to how ghost investigation shows play back audio recordings and discern voices in what sounds to me like static. Are you more or less likely to hear voices in random background noises compared to other people?

As someone who after 18 no longer takes medication for schizophrenia (with the support of my psychiatrist), I can explain that all the chemicals like dopamine that effect your mental well being are made or sourced in the stomach. So change your diet and you'll change your outlook on mental health
