  • I do a full product review of my new Osprey Atmos 50 BackPack. I talk about all the features and explain Anti Gravity back support. It is a great pack for weekend backpacking and week long trips! Ultra light and ultra cool. I do a full demo on the Feather River in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Northern California.

    Another great review. But if I could make one request and a few comments - it would be to supplement your review/offer opinions after you've worn it hiking and put some real world mileage on it. We can all read up on the features - and you happen to present these features in a most thorough and engaging, folksy manner, but at the end of the day, if a pack isn't comfortable in the field with all the features in the world, I wouldn't buy it. And I understand that fit and feel are very subjective, but you have such experience and credibility I think most of us would find your opinions very informative.

    • @basecampchris
      @basecampchris  4 года назад +4

      I appreciate the comment...I think that would add value/ depth to the review. A hike at the end or an over-nighter with thoughts on the performance would help.

    I picked up a Osprey Volt 75 a few years ago and really like the pack. The only downside is the weight and I find myself taking to much stuff. I have have since switched to Zpacks. My wife loves her 2 ospreys. She just got Osprey UL Lumina and loves it. Thanks for the video.

    I love this pack too! Osprey makes such a great product. I can carry MORE weight for longer distances, MUCH more comfortably with this pack, than an expensive "ultra-light" pack. I've found this to be true with all the Osprey AG and Stratos packs. Thanks Chris!

    • @mysterious.hiker.x
      @mysterious.hiker.x 4 года назад

      Well, that's exactly what the pack is designed to do vs ultralight packs. The Atmos is designed to carry large loads comfortably. Ultralight packs are designed to be simple, light and carry as low a baseweight as possible. I'm not really sure why you're comparing this pack to ones designed with an entirely different purpose?

    • @jetmanwalking
      @jetmanwalking 4 года назад +2

      @@mysterious.hiker.x Heavier weight more comfortably than lighter weight less comfortably. It's not a comparison, it's just a fact.

    • @mysterious.hiker.x
      @mysterious.hiker.x 4 года назад

      @@jetmanwalking Yes, a pack that is designed to carry heavy loads can carry heavy loads. That's a great fact, one which everyone agrees on. But why would you compare it to ultralight packs that literally do not have that same purpose or design? That's what I'm trying to figure out.

    Hi Chris !
    I write you from south of France. I like your videos, the places where you present your backpacks are always wonderful. I'm a fan of Osprey. I own five Osprey backpacks (Stratos 36, stratos 24, Talon 22, Farpoint 40, daylite +,), I plan to buy a sixth to go hiking for several days but I hesitate between Atmos 50 and Kestrel 48. Which of the two do you think is more comfortable? Thank you, I hope to see you again for a long time on youtube.

    Love it. Have a channel islands National Park trip coming up this summer for 3 nights and really torn between this and the REI Co-Op Flash 55.
    Osprey packs are built like tanks and I'm really leaning more and more toward this based on the reviews. I need to carefully look at my 3 night load and see how this would work. I understand by what most reviewers say that pushing this over 35lbs may be iffy and 30lbs seems to be the sweet spot.

    Hey Chris, nice video and well detailed review. I am on the fence of either the 50L or the 65L. I am 6,4” so would get a large in either pack. Most of my trips will be one to three nights in northern CA and caring at times some of my 9 yr olds stuff. I like the idea of the 50L forcing to carry less but also not sure if the 65L on a one/two night would be an overkill. Thanks for the input.

      65 L for me is not over kill... I like the option to pack more like on a winter trip with bulkier cloths/ jackets, glove and hats. But if you have the right gear 50L works. The weight difference in packs is not significant.

    Hey Chris how did you go with packing up the 50L with the essentials? I'm tossing up between the 65L and 50L, part of me is thinking get the 65L and just use it without the lid until I need it, the other part of me is thinking the 50L with loading up the lid might just be big enough....

    Question: behind/above the hydration reservoir there is a zipper that leads to the mesh chamber that would be facing the hiker's back when the bag is worn. Are you supposed to store gear in that chamber? If not, why is there built in access to it?

    • @HunterSol
      @HunterSol 3 года назад

      I wouldn't use it to store anything, storing things in there would defeat the point of the anti gravity setup.I think the zipper is there to relieve tension from the material across the back when unzipped, possibly part of the manufacturing process.
