      Puertoricans are part African. I myself did not understand racism until i moved to the states and experienced it first hand.

    • @greenelephant1231
      @greenelephant1231 3 года назад +45

      Um...most Puerto Ricans have African ancestry. I don't get where people get the idea that Latin America is "racist" towards Blacks. Whether you're in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, El Salvador, Venezuela, or Chile, one thing you'll notice is that the media does NOT obsess over race like America does. Most people are simply too mixed for that to occur.
      Blacks may face actual racism in countries like China, India, or Russia, but nowhere in Latin America. That being said, some people down there do tend to have contempt for those of Black African descent, but it's nothing like the type of hate you'll get in Eastern Europe or India.

    • @KeenanLambert198
      @KeenanLambert198 3 года назад +54

      @@greenelephant1231 this is false my G. There is plenty racism/light privilege in Latin America… Although mixing is common, people whom have more European features occupy the highest and most privileged socioeconomic positions…. Thank you Drew for visiting our lovely island! About Jayuya, It is very popular for its Indigenous Festival held in November during La Semana de la Puertorriquenidad (The Week of Puerto Rican Culture). Thousands of Puerto Ricans attend the festival every year. During the festival which lasts three days, a beauty pageant is held where the contestants are dressed in Taino dresses with fabulous headdresses. Other activities include, three gigantic tents filled with artisans selling and exhibiting their products, concerts with local artists and musicians, and food stands and foodtrucks with different types of Puerto Rican cuisine. That is when the usually sleepy city comes alive with traffic and the noises of the festival.

    Thinking about Puerto Rico makes me sad because of the hurricanes and it seems like there are less and less good reasons to be there. The population decreased by over 500,000 people from 2010-2020. I just want it to be a great, wonderful place, without all the problems.

    😎 I love all your videos and this one is one of your best. You portrayed my island and the people beautifully. Thanks, so much. Please let me point out a little mistake on this one, at 1:39 min you mention Roberto Clemente ( to all of us in Puerto Rico, he is the best major league baseball player 🤹‍♂️ ever) but the image that you used was from Jackie Robinson. Aside from this detail, this one is perfect. Thanks again

    First off I'm so happy it's not all San Juan... Jayuya has great festivals dedicated to Tomato and Coffee and lots of people from the island go and visit while they are going on but it's definitively not a tourist attraction and that's why I love the fact it was included. Rincón is another culture another world it dose have a more American feel or a California feel as it was mentioned but anytime you go to the north west you can expect some rain between 1pm and 3pm if visiting get there in the morning but don't leave before sunset sin the most beautiful sunsets can bee seen from the Lighthouse in Rincon. It is the surfing capital but Aguadilla and Isabella also have great surfing spots. BTW you should come in a second time flights are not expensive and I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people that would take you in and help with your project.
