    If I am not mistaken the SS54 is the Oyashio Class diesel electric submarine that was first commissioned in 1998. It is slowly being phased out and replaced by the more advanced Soryu Class. Currently the latest and most advanced Japanese submarine, probably the best in the world is the Taigei Class, the first to be powered by Lithium Ion Battery....Very quiet...
    I don't think the Japanese SS54 is any match for the Chinese submarines being very old......
