I love it when an SNL sketch is super serious because you have NO idea where it's going
It's from the dead poets society
spencer duh
@@spencer5438 oh yeaaa, I knew there was a reference but forgot where it was from
Taylor Lemoine Lorne, the producers at SNL, and the host for the week decide what scripts become full sketches based on what they liked from the table reads, so even though Che and Jost are the head writers that doesn’t mean that they’re the only ones who are deciding what goes on the show. So if you’re gonna call out Che and Jost then you might as well be mad at everyone involved in making the sketches.
I highly recommend Mid Day News if you like sketches that start out serious. Probably my favorite SNL sketch of all time.
I’d give anything to watch this again for the first time
Same. I couldn't stop laughing!! I've truly haven't laughed that hard in a long time.
Definitely
Omg I just did and literally woke up my sister in the other room cause I laughed so hard.
Right? I have never laughed that hard in my entire life
You make me want to be a better Maain
Damn, that escalated from "Dead Poet Society" to "Final Destination" really fast!
If this was a Final Destination death, the whole audience would be on the floor laughing.
You said it yourself , "Dead" Poet Society. lol
well it is "dead" poets society
Final Destination is my Favorite Film Franchise
hahahah! indeed it did!
My favourite part is the line “Poems are from a hundred years ago. They were written by a bunch of dead men to punish children.”
I thought the part where he was decapitated was pretty funny…
feels like it was actually written by some of my 15-year-old classmates
Poems in general are for women and homosexuals. 🤣🤣🤣 SO much good stuff before they even get to the beheading!!! 😂😂😂
I mean the movie did take place in the 50s and keating was a student in the 20s so makes sense
So is maths nd other history stuffs
Advice for people who haven't watched this: DO NOT skip ahead
Why the fuck would someone skip ahead in a comedy sketch
More like do not skip *a head*
@@logandh2 Bc certain parts may be uneventful.
Ricki T If you miss the setup for a punchline then there is no joke. That’s something a child understands, it requires no explanation. Now people may have the ability to be breathtakingly stupid but I don’t think anyone can be that dumb. Unless of course you yourself skipped ahead because you have the attention span of a fucking fruit fly and ruined the punchline for yourself, hence why you made this comment in the first place.
wow geez you guys are attacking the op hard for this one chill lol
Can we all just agree that Bobby did an outstanding job playing the principal...
Very excellent.
Yes
His performance basically sells the entire thing
Bobby is Very much missed in actual cast
A bald head can make anyone look terrifying...
We were in my AP Lit class. We had just finished Dead Poet’s Society. We were all really bummed. There were 4 minutes left in class. Our teacher said “Wait a minute, guys. I have something to cheer you up.”
This.
well did it cheer you up?
On a side note that movie is so queercoded its not even funny Neil and Todd are precious and must be protected
@@notfamedtvpersonalitydrphil It was an incredible way to end class
Literally me lol I also watched dps for a class and stumbled across this when the movie was over, defo cheered me up 😂
Great teacher
You watched a movie in "AP Literature", and you ended your post with a cliche. That's interesting.
The worst part of this sketch is that you'll never see it for the first time again.
Now I have a deathly fear of fans😌
bobby nodding his head in agreement when he said "the arts in general are for women and homosexuals" definitely had me cracking up before the big twist
I loved that part
I wonder if that was also meant as a bait-and-switch for where the skit was going.
The big twist is great, but I lose it at the textbook passages. I can't believe the audience gave no reaction to that. It's such a great, over-the-top movie cliche.
I actually thought he nodded in agreement like "Ok, leave now" for the other teacher. But yeah double-meaning stuff are cool!😁😁
It really is funny that most of the revered writers and artists in The Canon™ are men, given how many people genuinely think this sort of thing.
this is the most hysterical crowd reaction ever: scream, fear, laugh, yell, shock, uncontrollable laughter, hysteria...Lolz.
well played snl, well played
To be fair, most of the screaming is coming from the video.
Yeah, only the chilli pepper scene from Dumb and dumber comes close.
that was my exact reaction- I still scream even though I've seen it 100x
I never noticed it, but now that I have I agree. This was awesome, and made you feel like you were apart of it. lol
I love how everyone was trying to process what just happened.
I love how Beck is just standing there looking like his soul has died lol.
The look he gives Mr. Bunting - "I can see why they fired you, asshole. And now I have PTSD but the principal won't let me feel any emotions."
Beck the singer?
@@frankjamesbonarrigo7162 no dude.. Beck the SNL cast member...
Classic Beck.
I think it's a Carrie-inspired shot. After the blood gets dumped from the bucket
Possibly the single most perfect SNL sketch ever. An incredibly patient and authentic set-up, and then a single beautifully-executed joke that destroys the whole thing.
...Did I say 'executed'?
...I'll take off now.
This is 1 of the best SNL sketches of all time, right up there with Chippendale’s, More Cowbell, & the 1st appearance of Chris Farley as Matt Foley Motivational Speaker.
I think that Cocktail Hour is far more superior than this
Dont lose your head!
You got my email? lol

Best comment. All that money & creativity;yet, no scary in movies. Just gore....stupid gore.
The audience reaction is all I need. It's the best.
I don't think this was filmed in studio.
Andrew_Owens They showed this at the live show
Lmao, I was watching another video a few minutes ago about a baby orangutan and saw your comment over there and now you're over here too
@@rolo0o that’s hilarious
@@marcomarquez6771 quite humorous
What’s so great about this sketch too is that they do such a great job re-enacting this scene from Dead Poets Society from the little movements and the script that especially if you’ve seen the film you would have no idea what’s about to happen. 😂
I wonder how they did that. Did they actually film at the same school?
They even have the same box of changing bulbs in the closet and pictures on the walls
They took the "dead" part of "Dead Poets' Society" to a whole new level.
Well neil Perry already is the 'dead' of DPS

Head out, indeed
@Hellzyead what's wrong with you, you racist?
That was pretty legit dramatic acting from everyone up til the headshot.
That has to be the darkest turn in a sketch in the history of SNL
Until the Scrooge sketch this Christmas with Steve Martin and Martin Short…. Look it up.
"Wake Up and Smile" is right up there.
@@RandallChase1 this sketch was their inspiration- they mentioned it in a behind the scenes video. Still absolutely agree with you.
@RandallChase1 The writer's are the same. Mikey Day and Colin Jost. Both sketches are great!
I have never heard the audience laugh that hard during a comedy skit. Such a perfect skit.
odibex wow, you’re a real piece of shit aren’t ya?
Yeah obidex is a real obidick
Their pre-recorded/filmed performances are usually much much better than their performances filmed live in front of an audience. Here, you're hearing the audience respond to a meticulously crafted, practiced, and reshot-until-perfection recording. The same was true with Key & Peele. Live, they were corny and not so funny. Recorded, brilliant and knee-slapping all the way.
@@pashadyne how can anyone detect the humour in your comment given that this is America and we have Donald Trump as a president? Also, you ought to know that it's hard to tell whether someone is being serious or joking when in writing. Don't blame those who took it to heart.

I wish Robin Williams had been alive to see this. He'd have been proud.
@@sha11235 And he would've been cracking up 🤣🤣🤣🤣
yesterday, my animation professor showed this to us as an example for comedic timing and shock value in comedy. That last part caught all of us off guard and I could barely breathe with how hard we were all laughing
This is gold. Caught me completely off guard and made me literally laugh out loud, which is rare for me. I want the world to see this.
@Juno its ovi fake... Its not like they would behead a guy... and the guy only bleeds for a bit... they cut up his head more... And honestly if they made it to realistic they would probably get complaints
you want a gold star?
I had the same reaction. I normally just smile internally if that for modern SNL content.
I like it it catches you off guard and is surprising unlike many predictable sketches
@Juno the exaggerated blood is to heavily contrast against the serious, realistic tone of the movie it was trying to imitate. It's not the excessive blood that's funny, it's the sharp turn the sketch took. The extended length of bleed time lets the audience have a moment to react to what was happening. I'm only mildly surprised I had to explain this because autism, unlike god, is real.
If Quentin Tarantino directed Dead Poets Society...

SNL just reaffirmed my deathly fear of getting too close to ceiling fans
Would that actually happen if you went near one
@@oog2370 No, bruising most likely. If you want a ceiling fan to decapitate someone you need to sharpen the fans a great deal and the fans have to go much faster than they ordinarily do

They were installing it to surprise mee ma for their 60th wedding anniversary (she had wanted a ceiling fan since she was a little girl). SHE CALLED ME A HEARTLESS MONSTER! Now we laugh about it. I mean, is life even worth living if you cant laugh with the ones you love, even through the dark times.
@@burningbabel I don't think these fans are strong enough to decapitate someone.
If only that were true. Then pop pop would still be alive to see me now. The first person in my family to own a flushing toilet. He'd be so proud.
