From the time the titanic hit the iceberg until the Statue of Liberty's head fell on the ship it took 1 minute and 15 seconds, that means the ship is travelling at 31,875 km/h
At that speed it should have left the ocean, and then left the atmosphere, and taken up orbit around the earth. Not quite sure which altitude, but higher than LEO which only requires 27,360 km/h.
I must say, for what it is, this video is a beautiful piece of cinema. Almost every moment looks like it could actually be in some kind of thriller/action/horror movie. The ice and shards of metal acting like bullets being fired at the incompetent crew was perfection.
I'm a recent Titaniac and I just finished watching a few Titanic videos with my mom. The fact that I'm seeing this this very night and a day after it's uploading to boot... Makes a man believe in divine providence.
The cinematography in this is PEAK HOLY SHIT The way the camera peers through every little crack and dent and space in the floorboards is AMAZING. This was a work of fucking art lmao
Just shipped the final titanic blueprints off to the ship builders, but apparently operating a boat at several thousand miles per hour is "unsafe" and "we haven't invented dark energy pulse drives yet". Like, whatever dude. Get it done by the end of the month, we don't pay you minimum wage for nothing.
Ain't no way these them ship builders hit you with that "I have no idea what you are trying to convey to me" argument, like bro they should've just had a basic understanding of what subsonic warp drives are smh...
My irish great grandma was one of the 712 survivors of this tragedy, she remembers how fast the ship was when crossing the atlantic ocean, wrecking several icebergs, and she was on the stern of the ship when it broke in half. She was so lucky to make it alive. She will always remember this fateful day.
I was hoping to see the Captain unhinged too. Shouting for them to go faster and demanding moar coal to be shoveled and seeing the boilers going berserk 😂
I want that despite the unhinged and insane damage in these videos, I love that they're very kid friendly, Even when the most disastrous thing happens in these videos there's no profanity or graphic violence, and love your videos for not showing any blood and organ violence or hard and colorful language, hey if it's unhinged it's got to at least stay kid friendly 😊
For those wondering how fast this ship is going, if we are assuming the first iceberg this Titanic hit was in the same location as where the real Titanic sank, and since they reached the Statue of Liberty in 54 seconds (disregarding the fact that there is time-stretching slow scenes), then we can calculate that the distance from those two points on Earth is about 2,017.7 km, or roughly 1,253.7 miles. But as we see the speed is much slower when nearing the statue, it looks like they are about 1.5 to 2 miles out before impact, and that was within 2 seconds. With that new information, that then means that this ship was going at a speed of approximately 2700 miles per hour. That's about going Mach 3.5, or roughly 3.5 times the speed of sound. And at 1:31 we see the ship is at 'half' speed, meaning that this Titanic can go twice that speed topping at about Mach 7, if needed. FYI the NASA X-43 was an experimental unmanned hypersonic aircraft meant to test various aspects of hypersonic flight. It was part NASA's Hyper-X program developed in the late 1990s. It set several airspeed records for jet aircraft for being the fastest jet-powered aircraft created by man, reaching a mind numbing record-breaking speed of Mach 9.6. I really like this video.
I think that in the time since they hitted the first iceberg and the time they hitted the statue, they tried somewhat to reduce the speed of the ship, and die to the ice projectiles they only managed to put half speed by the time they where on land The speed could have also been significantly reduced every time they hitted something
Unsinkable is a fucking understatement, this ship is flat out playing god. They didn’t just arrive at New York ahead of schedule, they ran right through it to the Brooklyn bridge.
Fun fact: it takes the Titanic exactly one minute to travel from Ellis Island to the Brooklyn Bridge, which means its careening through the city at 516 MPH.
Thomas the tank engine, polar express, and titanic were the three corner stones of my childhood. I'm so happy that these exist and that they are so good. Keep it up❤
I have been interested in maritime history since I was 4 years old (mainly the titanic) so I think I’m able to say WITHOUT A DOUBT that this was historically accurate.
I like how this almost perfectly encapsulates that feeling in a dream when you know you're moving too fast and you can't slow down yet somehow the carnage just completely unaffects you
Okay first off this is brilliant. Second, RMS Olympic did this in real life. I mean Olympic is ripe for a rampage video of her own. (Emperor Palpatine voice: *DO IT* )
a lot of people believe, that if titanic would NOT have steered away and instead hit the iceberg FRONTALLY, it MAY not have sunk (as fast), and much more people would have survived. A lot of the ship would have been on top of the iceberg, or it would opnly have some frontal damage (which likely would not have sunken the ship) and it may not have taken as much hull-damage. A rescue would be trickier, but there would have been much more time for it. This is very speculative and circumstantial, and still more likely true than false.
The front of the ship would have telescoped, probably even up to the mast. It may not have sunk, but many people would have died nonetheless. And I don’t blame them for steering away from it. If you had the bridge, what would you say when you were asked “So why exactly did you not turn the ship, but instead decide to collide head-on with the iceberg, killing everyone in the forecastle and below?”
Considering nearly all of the impact would be taken bow-on, it’s likely only two, maybe three water tight compartments would’ve been breached, which she absolutely could have survived that with her pumps activated, or in the absolute worse case scenario, take many hours to sink, which, by then, other ships would’ve arrived to assist in the evacuation of passengers and non-essential crew members. Maybe even then they could’ve towed her back to the nearest port. Either way, I believe any of those outcomes would’ve prevented a complete disaster and massive loss of life.
That theory is based on the calculations that show that had the ship crashed straight into a completely flat wall, it would have come to an uncomfortably abrupt, but mostly safe stop after completely crushing the first 2 compartments. The theory is completely flawed, however, in the sense that what are the odds that the iceberg would have had a perfectly flat side towards the ship at exactly 90 degrees to the ship? In any case, what does it even matter how quickly it sank? The facts that matter are that it did and that due to the idiotic laws of the time, it had way too few boats and that too few crew knew the boats capacity.
Also the ship had been designed to survive a head-on collision, since part of the reason her maker was so obsessed with safety was because of a devastating head-on accident shortly before he started working on the class. In theory, the ship's bow could have absorbed the crushing forces of the entire ship behind it, and come to a violent but survivable stop.
Looks historically accurate to me!
