Thank you for your comments! Many people ask me if they can use a metal knife, a metal ruler, or a stone to rub on the die cuts, and I DO NOT recommend to do that because dies are metal and have a sharp edge, if you use metal or a stone to rub against your dies it will degrade the sharpness of them and eventually your dies will became dull and won’t cut anymore. You can use any hard plastic instead, since this is a softer element it will get worn, but it will preserve the life of your dies. Have fun crafting 💕
I think it’s funny how many people in the comments are so shocked that this can be done by hand! 😂 ❤ There was a world of scrapbooking before these machines were being mass produced for the average consumer. The ladies I knew back in the 80’s and 90’s were absolute pro’s at cutting and embossing by hand. It’s becoming a lost art form imo! Hats off to all of you willing to learn this too. It’s a real talent in my view. Hand made and not mass produced is always better. ❤
This is the first time I have seen someone do this. The companies that make the machines will not be very happy with this. But, it is an amazing idea. Especially for those who cannot afford to get a machine. Who would have thought this could be done? Great idea and so helpful.
@@ONightbird Really? We just got a used machine off Facebook Market Place for $49. Not exactly big money. It is certainly worth it and a huge time-saver if you are making cards.
Shut the front door! I never knew this and have passed on larger dies because I don't have a die machine to accommodate them. I also love your tip about if it doesn't cut all the way by running it through the die cut machine, to do this. I will be definitely putting these tips to work in my craft room. Thank you! Hugs, Brenda
I used this method and it definitely put nicks into the bone folder so I switched to my metal bone folder/embossing tool and what a difference with no nicks. I used to break regular plastic handled embossing tools
This was very useful. I am a casual crafter and want to use a few REALLY simple die cuts, but didn't want to invest in the machine. I was wondering if something like this would be possible. I still think for those who want to do small flourishes, the machine makes sense but I just want simple circle, oval, square, rectangle shapes to make border cut outs. This should work fine for me. Thanks again!
I’m also not good at paying attention to die sizes. I think this is great for big dies, but it is quite time consuming. I’ve also wondered about using a brayer with the die facing down onto a self healing cutting mat.
I saw another person Mandy was her name use the bach end of the handle of a butter knife instead of using a bone folder - thought that was a great tip as well if you don't have a bone folder! & she also lightly sprayed a water mist over her paper with using the embossing folders & went over that with the back of a spoon to get a great effect from that as well! I'm so glad that I searched for ways to use these awesome things in my crafting without worrying about the money to spend on these machines! Thank you so much for sharing the secrets 💜😁
Great idea! If you want to take away those used ridges on your bone folder, gently rub over it with sandpaper, it may take a few times, but you will get a nice edge back that will make it last longer. xxx
Honestly in such amazement watching how this can be done with SUCH MINIMAL pressure and yet the lines are absolutely “machine” clean and precise. Lol laughing at myself looking back at all the times I’ve spent struggling when there was such an easy solution! 🤣
Thank you for your video! My mother in law gave me some dies for Christmas, I didn't have the heart to tell her that I couldn't use them with it, but I can use them then upload them to my pc. Thank you again!

I am in awe. Great tip. I only have one large die and I spent hours tracing and hand cutting. It worked but was very time consuming. Oh my goodness, next time I will use this method. I can't wait to share this with my friends.
💝You just saved me so much money and aggravation. I ordered many die’s from Temu, then I realized I had no idea how to use them😵💫Then I went on the machine hunt, wondering if I even wanted to do this hobby enough to justify a machine? Next thing I know I open RUclips and this is the first video recommendation. Genius idea, creepy coincidence (if it can be called that lol).
Thank you so much for showing me this technique! I really like doing it on parts of a die that didn’t everything after passing it through my Big Shot. In the past, I’d run it through a second time and the paper moved so the entire die cut was not usable. Thank you, again, for sharing this. I’m very impressed with how just a simple bone folder can cut even intricate dies!
I thought the same thing. The companies who make the die cutting machines will not be pleased. This is a brilliant idea. I lost all my supplies when I was evicted 3 years ago. this is a great idea. when I go on holiday and buy a fie I always want to use it straight away 😊 now I can all I need is my bone folder. thank you for sharing ❤
Thanks so much for sharing. Sometimes I don't feel like pulling out the machine, selecting the placement of the plates, and cutting the paper to fit the plates. This is so much easier.
Your video ..is Awesome 😎..I am totally amazed ...I have never seen this demo before ...like some of the other people who commented..that is the real reason I have not bought the larger die cutting dies..Now I can go on and buy them and use the bone folder ..I have two of the bone folders ..thank you so much for making this video !!!you’re a lifesaverGod bless you too sweetheart🙌🏽🙌🏽😋💕..Please let us know when the large book die set comes back in stock 🙏
This is a great tip for the dies that just won't cut completely in certain areas. I've been finishing them with my craft knife if I really want to save them. But the bone folder will do the trick much better. Thanks.
Wow , for big dies and basic shapes that’s way quicker and easier than pulling out my machine to do it ...thanks so much for sharing this wonderful idea 💡
Oh mylanta, you saved me! This helped me cut a square in gift boxes (that were too large to go through my big shot) so I could place window sheets inside. Thank you!
Wonderful 👏. Great Tutorial. Your Verbal and Visual Instructions are very helpful. Both time saving and money saving. Thank You for taking the time to make this video.
This is a great option of manual die cutting! I made two videos where I used a rock with the same technique. Fun to see how it worked out for you Christy! :) You came up on my recommended and I had to check it as I've just posted my second die cutting without a machine video the other day! Big love from London // Charlotta xx
79 dislikes? people are so harsh... why do you reckon they don't like it? Maybe they could get it to work... My first one also had 10 dislikes. Made me curious..
You are amazing I just tried it it worked a little bit bit didn't have the right tool like yr thick bone folder. As I was doing it I learned a nother little trick. .... ladies if you put die face up rub hard ish. You get the print of the die ... like as kids rubbing a crayon over money. If you turn the die over and rub on the flat side looks like you drew it on! Great for background great way for embossing too ! Thank you so much you learn so much from yr video. You got yourself a new subscriber 😁
So glad I looked into this. I only want to cut eyes out for some projects for crochet and think this method will work for me hopefully as I don’t want to invest in a whole die cutter
Such a great idea. I have a large die that won't go in my die cutting machine and this is so much easier than the way I've been trying to use it. Thanks.
I have recently started making photo journals and have seen dies I would like but have not got a cutting machine thank you so much for sharing this is wonderful ❤️

Wow amazing tip! I’ve seen some dies too big and passed because I only have a little sidekick machine. This is so genius.
Great idea, I don't have a machine because I don't need one but the odd occasion I could do with the help, this is perfect.
Thank you! I have a couple of die but didn't want to buy a machine. Your way will help me.
This saves me.
I'm currently saving up to buy a used die cutting machine.
But really want to use it now in my journal. Thanks
I've seen someone use a stone and a rolling pin, a bone folder is more convenient and easy to use. very cool❤️❤️
I've tried the rolling pin didnt work for me
This is a great tip for the dies that just won't cut completely in certain areas. I've been finishing them with my craft knife if I really want to save them. But the bone folder will do the trick much better. Thanks.
THANK YOU! i cannot afford a die cutter and have wanted to play with some inexpensive dies. i now think i might just be able to. thanks for sharing.
Thank you, I love it when people use what they have to do what they need to get done. Great job, that was so easy. Nice Video, have a great day!
This is wonderful. Genius idea. Thank you for sharing, Susan.
Die cutting machines are usually expensive! This helps save money and room in my craft supply closet! Great idea!
Super idea, can save a lot of money doing it this way instead of buying a larger machine like I just did. Very good idea. Thank you for sharing.
Wow, love this. I didn’t want to invest in a die cutting machine just yet. This is fabulous. Thank you
Thank you! I recently came across some dies I had collected years ago but haven't used because I didn't have a machine.
So glad I looked into this. I only want to cut eyes out for some projects for crochet and think this method will work for me hopefully as I don’t want to invest in a whole die cutter
So simple yet so brilliant! Thank you so much for this tip! I appreciate it so much!
Thank you Christy for sharing this wonderful tips that will save me lots money. I appreciate. I got great value for my time.
Such a great idea. I have a large die that won't go in my die cutting machine and this is so much easier than the way I've been trying to use it. Thanks.
I have recently started making photo journals and have seen dies I would like but have not got a cutting machine thank you so much for sharing this is wonderful ❤️
Thank you so much. I only have a small die cutting machine so am restricted to the size of the dies. Not any more. Brilliant!
Thank you for showing this I am going to use this idea of yours keep teaching us God bless you and your family
