I do not own a machine with a big slot and I have tried cutting my big dies with many objects and this is the best of all! If you want to use your dies very often please consider investing in a die cutting machine. Thank you for your comments!
Many people ask me if they can use a metal knife, a metal ruler, or a stone to rub on the die cuts, and I DO NOT recommend to do that because dies are metal and have a sharp edge, if you use metal or a stone to rub against your dies it will degrade the sharpness of them and eventually your dies will became dull and won’t cut anymore. You can use any hard plastic instead, since this is a softer element it will get worn, but it will preserve the life of your dies.
Have fun crafting 💕
You should get a medal for this idea . Watch everyone else is gonna copy this idea and say it’s their idea, you should have copy rights . Thanks for sharing who’d have thought how easy this is . Big hugs from the UK 🇬🇧🇬🇧
This is one of the most brilliant crafting tips I’ve ever heard of.
Thank you! This was a helpful video. Mixed media can be an expensive undertaking. One has to be creative and find ways to create beautiful images without spending a fortune. Well done!
Thank you for this video! I never would have thought that just using a bone folder would work!! This opens a new world for me!!! Great job!!
Awesome tips! I have a big shot. Sometimes when I use a die several times to do layering, it doesn't always cut the whole piece out so using that bone folder on them is an awesome tip to get the rest cut out! Thank you for sharing! God bless! Love hugs and prayers! 😇💜🤗🙏
🤯 why didn’t I ever think of this? Thank you!!! I am DOING this!
Wow!! I thought NO WAYYYY. I had to stop and grab my paper, tool and a die to test it on WHILE watching this video and it did work!! Amazing tip!!!
I have to share this with my friends!! Thanks so much!!
I too have passed up deals on bigger dies for this very reason!
Die cutting machines are usually expensive! This helps save money and room in my craft supply closet! Great idea!
Wow how smart you are. What a wonderful idea! I Love This!! Thank you for sharing.😃
Wow, TFS! For years I passed on larger dies.
Wonderful tip!!
Oh wow, I never would've thought of this. Great idea, thanks for sharing Christy!
Such a great idea. I have a large die that won't go in my die cutting machine and this is so much easier than the way I've been trying to use it. Thanks.
Wow you’re so clever well done thank you for showing us.
Thank you Christy!!, you're very kind & sweet!
Thank you for sharing this tip with us. Very nice video. 👏👏👏🥰🥰🥰
Congratulations! 🎉🎊🎈 You are such a genius! Thank you so very much!🙏🌹🌟🌹🌟🌹
Good video Once if I wanted to give was and I was working with this last night when a die for some reason will not involve us even when you put it through with rubber pad if you've got the time you can in use you can use the embossing tool to emboss that area I did want to send you that tip anyway great video thanks again
Genial!!!! Gracias por compartirlo.lo pondré en práctica.saludos desde Valladolid España
Thanks for a great tip! I have one die that is too large for my machine, but I can scrapbook with it-finally
Wow! Clever!
😱 Thank you so much for sharing 😍 You are awesome!!!!
What a wonderful idea!!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!!
I use fine sand paper to sand smooth the little dents on my bone folder :)
Awesome tip, tfs!
Wow what a great idea.
Wonderful thanks for sharing
You can sand down the bone folder after it gets too many ridges! It will eventually get thinner but i think itll help
thanks for sharing never knew this could be done
Fantastic tip Christy, thanks for sharing xxx
I have always pass on those because I don’t have a die cutting machine will this work on smaller does as well? Thank you for sharing. I have came over from Pat Sweeney
It’s easy to cut simple lines but if it’s an intricate design I recommend you a die cutting machine.
Excellent idea. Congrats to you for such a great tip. How did you come with this?
I tried many things because I can't afford buying a new machine and this tool works the best!
Brilliant! Tfs
Wow ! Thank you so much 💗😊
Brilliant!!!
Thank you dear
You can use painters tape too
Never knew that. Awesome
Awesome👍. Thank you 😁
Genius
So cool!
That is awsome thank you so much for sharing seem you have done this wood you have any idear or tips on really big embossing folders as mine won't fit in my big shot machine?
@Caroline White - An embossing folder requires pressure/weight applied on the entire surface. This cannot be achieved with a bone folder. You will have to think of some heavy weight/pressure applied on it, like running it over with a rolling pin or something like that. I even wonder if the rolling pin would also work in conjunction with the die as it would be a faster process and not so tough on arthritic fingers when using the bone folder.
You can also cut down a large folder, if the design still looks correct. I have some Teresa Collins folders that I planned to do that with - probably using something like an exacto knife. I have tried the rolling pin method and that can work to a degree, sometimes misting the paper helps release the fibers.
Great great tip! This is perfect!😍😍😍
Amazing! Thank you so much!
This was very useful. I am a casual crafter and want to use a few REALLY simple die cuts, but didn't want to invest in the machine. I was wondering if something like this would be possible. I still think for those who want to do small flourishes, the machine makes sense but I just want simple circle, oval, square, rectangle shapes to make border cut outs. This should work fine for me. Thanks again!
Shut the front door! I never knew this and have passed on larger dies because I don't have a die machine to accommodate them. I also love your tip about if it doesn't cut all the way by running it through the die cut machine, to do this. I will be definitely putting these tips to work in my craft room. Thank you! Hugs, Brenda
Brenda Lawrence you and me both😋😋..
😂😂😂
And me 🤩
And me too!!!
I used this method and it definitely put nicks into the bone folder so I switched to my metal bone folder/embossing tool and what a difference with no nicks. I used to break regular plastic handled embossing tools
I think it’s funny how many people in the comments are so shocked that this can be done by hand! 😂 ❤ There was a world of scrapbooking before these machines were being mass produced for the average consumer. The ladies I knew back in the 80’s and 90’s were absolute pro’s at cutting and embossing by hand. It’s becoming a lost art form imo! Hats off to all of you willing to learn this too. It’s a real talent in my view. Hand made and not mass produced is always better. ❤
This is the first time I have seen someone do this. The companies that make the machines will not be very happy with this. But, it is an amazing idea. Especially for those who cannot afford to get a machine. Who would have thought this could be done? Great idea and so helpful.
I was going to say the same thing! (hence the 39 thumbs down for those who paid big $$$$ for a machine) ha!

I cannot afford to buy these expensive tools wanting to start making cards so a good idea. Thank you . Just stumbled on your channel🙏
@@ONightbird Really? We just got a used machine off Facebook Market Place for $49. Not exactly big money. It is certainly worth it and a huge time-saver if you are making cards.
I am in awe. Great tip. I only have one large die and I spent hours tracing and hand cutting. It worked but was very time consuming. Oh my goodness, next time I will use this method. I can't wait to share this with my friends.
I have used a wooden rolling pin to do this.
That was my thought
I tried that too but didn’t do the trick for me on the smaller details. I used a rock instead ha.. 🙂
Another wonderful idea!
Thank you for this! I wanted to get a few dies but didn’t want to bother with a machine till I was able to set up a craft room. I wanted a die that looks like a stamp and one that looks like brick edges.
I was thinking of a smaller plastic roller, like used for veneer etc.
Great idea! If you want to take away those used ridges on your bone folder, gently rub over it with sandpaper, it may take a few times, but you will get a nice edge back that will make it last longer. xxx
I saw another person Mandy was her name use the bach end of the handle of a butter knife instead of using a bone folder - thought that was a great tip as well if you don't have a bone folder! & she also lightly sprayed a water mist over her paper with using the embossing folders & went over that with the back of a spoon to get a great effect from that as well! I'm so glad that I searched for ways to use these awesome things in my crafting without worrying about the money to spend on these machines! Thank you so much for sharing the secrets 💜😁
Honestly in such amazement watching how this can be done with SUCH MINIMAL pressure and yet the lines are absolutely “machine” clean and precise. Lol laughing at myself looking back at all the times I’ve spent struggling when there was such an easy solution! 🤣
Christy, thank you for the amazing tips, especially for some of us Crafters that don't have all of our supplies and stash built up yet, Many Blessings 🌟💫
Thankyou for this tip I am just learning
I bought a similar die to this one a few months ago only to realize it was too big for my machine, so this video is so perfect!
I’m also not good at paying attention to die sizes. I think this is great for big dies, but it is quite time consuming. I’ve also wondered about using a brayer with the die facing down onto a self healing cutting mat.
Christy, you have all the tricks and tips. I've walked by good deals on larger dies for this reason. Thanks so much for Sharing. Have a blessed weekend 😊
This a wonderful tip. I don’t need a larger die cutting machine. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Wat plonkers clicked the' don't like' button, this is genius, omg must b jel they didn't think of it lol, TFS xx
Click on it again and it will remove the thumbs down for you...
jeannie ferdinande you misunderstood Lottie...she was saying “What plonkers clicked the ‘don’t like’ button? This is genius!”
Lori JSP opps! That makes more sense, thanks😊
jeannie ferdinande YVW! 😁 In your defense, Lottie’s (mis)use of punctuation didn’t make it easy! 😆
@@lorijsp8813 I apologise.
Christy, this is brilliant!!! Although I have two large die cutting machines sometimes it’s inconvenient to use them. The idea of using for a die cut that’s not cleanly cut is awesome!! Thank you for sharing with us!!😃😲😃
Great tip, now I can use the box die I bought from AE that is to big for my mashine, thank you Christy 😍
That is SUCH a great idea!
I am a happy owner of a die cutting maching that can do large cutting dies and followed the link because I have some extras/doubles of regular cutting dies which I'd love to give away to friends in the neighbourhood , but they don't own a machine at all (but they all have a proper bone folder or two by now after crafting with me!). So at first I felt the title was a bit misleading, thinking this would be for extremly simple shapes, but I was wrong.
And your ideas takes all the frustration out of a cut with the machine that didn't quite work out.
Thank you, thank you!
Wow wow wow, I appreciate your showing us how to do this. Sometimes I just need to do one small cut and do not want to get my die cutter out. Also, as you say, sometimes one little part does not cut all the way through. This way will fix that trouble. Thanks muchly, Gloria
I've wondered if his method would work but never tried it. You just proved it does! I don't see why it won't work with any die cut when I'm too lazy to get out my BigShot. THANKS, CHRISTY!
This is a great option of manual die cutting! I made two videos where I used a rock with the same technique. Fun to see how it worked out for you Christy! :) You came up on my recommended and I had to check it as I've just posted my second die cutting without a machine video the other day! Big love from London // Charlotta xx
79 dislikes? people are so harsh... why do you reckon they don't like it? Maybe they could get it to work... My first one also had 10 dislikes. Made me curious..
From Kathy Rivera- This is a brilliant idea! Than you so much! We don't have a dyecuting machine because we can't aford one yet. You just made my day!!!🤗💖😀
I had *NO IDEA* die-cutting could be done this way!!! I've been wanting just a decent manual die-cutting/embossing machine for the past few years! This is AMAZING!!!
I bought big shot plus limite edition it is really amazing best machine I have ever had
At Tuesday Morning they might have the big kick for 49. My store still has 3 left since they came out in Nov.
Sandra Miranda I saw them at my Tuesday Morning too... I don’t even own a die cutting machine.. I thought of getting i5 at TM... but then I will be spending lots of money on dies...
@@robinjones394 true that but its fun 😆
Brilliant especially for when a small section of a die doesn’t cut. Thank you!
Thank you, I had a few dies that were too big, now I know there is another way to cut them.
That's a great idea, I have used a rolling pin to how it works, and it did ok but it needed a lot of pressure. I want to try a pasta machine.
AliExpress makes knock offs of brand name products and sells them cheap. By AliExpress coping their copywrite products these brand name companies lose business.
New subbie here. I’m obsessed with this!
TFS!! ♥️
I am so happy that you have shared this tip with us. You are a genius, something so simple yet so helpful. Now i can use even the smaller dies that i have! Thank you so very much!😄
THANK YOU, Christy, this is a great tip. I would have never thought of doing it this way but it works perfect!!
I had no idea that we could do this! Never would have thought of it - you are brilliant! Thanks!
Thank you Christy, this is what I thought of. Wonderful results.
You get the gold medal for genius! This is such a great idea for people that have electronic die cutting machines. If the power goes out, you can still craft using dies! 👍🏼👍🏼🙌🏼🤗
what a great idea i never even thought about doing this. thanks for your video
OMG you are a genius! Today one of my crafty friends asked if I had a die cutting machine bec she didn't have one but she bought her first die. She only uses the electronic cutting machine. Next thing I know I open RUclips and this is the first video recommendation. Genius idea, creepy coincidence (if it can be called that lol).
Thank you so much for showing me this technique! I really like doing it on parts of a die that didn’t everything after passing it through my Big Shot. In the past, I’d run it through a second time and the paper moved so the entire die cut was not usable. Thank you, again, for sharing this. I’m very impressed with how just a simple bone folder can cut even intricate dies!
This’s Genius!!! It never cross my mind thank you for sharing with us . Big hug’s Yorlis
Thanks for sharing!!! Can't wait to get home to try it out! I have a Big Shot and Diamond Press, love them both but I lean towards the DP because it is so easy and small. You are so kind to share and now I am a loyal subbie❣
Do you think you Could you use a rolling pin and just roll over the die and paper maybe on a plastic cutting board!?
I tried it and didn’t work.
Very clever well done thanks for showing x
I've seen someone use a stone and a rolling pin, a bone folder is more convenient and easy to use. very cool❤️❤️
I've tried the rolling pin didnt work for me
What great tip. I bought a bunch of dies and when I got them I had no idea how to use them. You are such a sweetie to share your methods. Thank-Robin
BINGO! This is a game changer. Thank you!
Christmas thank you so much for sharing this tip. It is most useful
Very clever! Thank you Christy!
I’m thinking a good letter opener should work. I have an old metal one.ill have to try this.
Anything metal material will damage your dies. I do not recommend using a letter opener.
AMAZING! I was looking for something else and stumbled onto your channel. I am now a new subscriber. I'm gonna be binge-watching your previous videos over the next few days. I can now buy some of those bigger dies I'm always seeing at Hobby Lobby and the Tuesday Morning store! Thank you so much for sharing this tip. Have a BLESSED week!
Great tip! Thank you. Blessings, Darby
👍 because I wanted to like this twice
Super cool! Thanks!
Awesome tip! Thank you!
I just started making cards. I don't have everything yet. Working on it.
I'm going to try this why not.
Happy Crafting! Blessings
You just got a new subscriber!!
Amazing tip!! Thank you
Thank you for this simple but amazing trick! I have avoided large dies as I don’t have a big machine and I also have some dies that don’t cut well so this will be of great use!🤙🏻🇦🇺
This is a great idea. But if the bone folder is dented like yours is. Maybe you can make it flat again with some sandpaper so you can use it even longer. I don't know if that will work.
Yes it will. This bone folder can last very long.
@@FaithfulDesignsbyChristy thank you for replying. I always wanted the bigger dies but I have just the normal sizzix bigshot machine, so I never bought the bigger dies. With your idea I can😍
Big hugs from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 😘😘😘
So simple yet so brilliant! Thank you so much for this tip! I appreciate it so much!
This is a wonderful solution and will help many crafters! Thank you for sharing.
