Joe Flanigan did a great job in atlantis , beyond me how they are not using him in more projects, great guys and decent heroic characters, upright and righteous might not be in the hollywood agenda ....this is one great actor ..

Just wrapping up season 5 right now after marathoning on Amazon from SG-1 all through Atlantis. Sucks that they didn’t keep going. I tried SGU and just can’t get into it. Atlantis should have at least had a few movies like SG-1 did to help wrap things up.
Trust me, stick with Stargate Universe till its end at season 2. SGU may be darker and start slow, but by the end of S2 you'll have seen some of the best sci fi writing around. I hope one day to see where they were going as the implications were just huge.
It would have been so much better if SGA was able to continue alongside SGU, I would have had less of a problem with SGU if I was still able to get my SGA fix. Makes complete sense too, try out something different with the new series to try and bring more people into the franchise while keeping the long time fans happy with a continuing SGA.

Indeed - jumping on the nBSG-Grimdark-is-great bandwagon (with a show that never was intended for that) was one of the more stupid decisions in the history of TV-Shows (especially since SGA still had decent-good ratings and was making them money!)
They were mad to cancel SGA. Should have gone at least another 3 seasons easy. I’ve got loads of material for it. Challenging to get Jason now but they could do films for sure.
I really wish they hadn't done that. Not just because it killed off Atlantis before it's time, but also because it poisoned the well regarding S.G.U. for a lot of Stargate fans I think. It essentially killed both shows instead of giving fans a chance to potentially enjoy both or either show based solely on it's own merit. Atlantis was awesome. The international civilian presence, Shepphard and McKay's bickering, Zelenka muttering in Czech were my favorite parts. S.G.U. could have worked alongside. It was a completely different show. Much darker. A bunch of refugees stuck on a spaceship falling to bits, a chief scientist that doesn't trust anyone, an alcoholic captain. So much potential pissed into the wind by network executives.
It's interesting to compare him now with how he looked when Todd fed on him. They focused the makeup on his skin. Turns out he would age by just getting his beard whitened. Where's Todd? I need him to feed on the asshats at spyglass or whatever that didn't let him buy the stargate atlantis franchise and put some of that life force into Joe. Make him young again :)
It really was a shame that Atlantis got cancelled so early. Atlantis could have gone on for a few more seasons, and had they waited maybe 5 more years to release Universe, it would have worked out better. The trend for a more darker sci-fi (more hard sci fi topics) was growing in the later 2010s.

Is it just me or does the more recent generation t sci-fi stars age faster than the oldies? This guy was on Atlantis like 14 years ago yet he looks like he is 30 years older (or like somebody else, said he looks like Harrison Ford). If Bill Shatner (who does look old NOW) and his gang aged as fast as many of the stars from Stargate, Star Trek DS9/Voyager, Battlestar Galactica (2003) etc, they would look like they were dead.

Stargate has been gone over 10 years now and I still can't believe they killed such a good show. Beyond idiotic. SG1, Atlantis and even Universe were all amazing shows. SG1 - 3-4 seasons left, Atlantis -5-6 easily, Universe - 3-4 easily. They were sitting on some amazing IP and SciFi killed it all and prevented others from continuing it. What a shame.. A few idiots in SciFi can ruin it for millions of fans. How is this even possible? What a disgrace those SciFi execs are. A few people.... shaking my head in disgust
