I lived in district 9, gone to school in district 1, gone to the doctor's to district 10, grocery shopping to district 22, and I'm a wheelchair user without a car. Need I say more?
This city is the most amazing thing I have ever experienced when it comes to quality of living. Clean streets even away from tourist attractions, and it can't be overstated how easy it is to get around without a car. It's actually easier to use public transport, and you literally could take care of your work, banking, grocery and all those tasks for a day, and return home not having walked more than 500 meters, just taking one public transport option after another.

Vienna is a breathtaking city to visit, but also a cautionary tale of the extravagance that unchecked wealth and influence can amass. Wandering the exhibits in the palace reveals rooms and rooms of ornate cutlery, gilded ballrooms and the staggering contrast of the Hapsburg elite and the commoners they ruled over, and a past that is best admired for its beauty rather than its conditions.

If you want to just enjoy/feel Vienna, leave these hotspots for later, grab some coffee and just take a long random walk in/around the city center. You will see plenty of gorgeous architecture and historical places. Then go to the neighbouring districts to enjoy less posh, but even more liveable surroundings to see how locals live. If it is already warm outside, you should take some food, go to a park and have a picnic there or if you have more time, also visit Kahlenberg to see Viennese vineyards and the city from the hill.
Although places like Schönbrunn, Belvedere, Hoffburg, etc. are beautiful, there are also a lot of "soviet-style" buildings in Vienna which you can also enjoy and to me it just shows how diverse this city and its history are.

It's around 1.5-2 hours by train from the city to reach villages located around Rax/Schneeberg group which are 2k high peaks. Visited Vienna only once in 2014. Have to say it is perhaps the best eye candy for Central Europe. Having dodged the destruction that befell many cities during WW2, it is GORGEOUS and baroque on every corner. Schoenbrun, the Imperial Ring of Belle-Epoque architecture, National Treasury with crown jewels of Holy Roman Empire from 10th century . One of the most beautifully decorated art museums in Europe with a collection of works equally meritiing the guiled interior.. Add beautiful cityscapes from the wheels and towering rides in Prater Amusement Gardens...Realise you could cover an hour of these gems and all would be even better in real life, far beyond the best photos.
. Plus when I was there early July 2014, none of the city was mobbed with tourists, like many of the other stars of Central Europe. I highly recommend a visit to experience it's beauty exponentially exceeding any photos by its beauty in person 💖
Give a city break a shot. Chances are you will definitely not be disappointed if looking for a charm on most every other city block
    Sincerely,
    Evan

Vienna is only voted the most livable city in the world most of the years, but okay, guess YOU still need to ask if it's great...
Best town in the world, period. AND getting better every year. (The best public transport system in the world is being enlarged every year. The city is getting cleaner and greener every year too.)
Oh and you've show like 3 monuments... we have like a thousand in Vienna.
And yes, I live here, and yes, I have been to Vancouver and Zürich as well, who are usally fighting for 2nd and 3rd place of most livable cities in the world and they are nice, but by far not as sophisticated as Vienna.

Visiting or living there is not the same. Specially for car drivers it is not funny anymore! It is very hard to get a free parking space. And that is really necessary when you are becoming old. Also criminality has increased. And it is difficult to find a flat for an affordable price. 😔

I guess I am the one dissenting voice here. I visited Vienna and a number of other cities with my ex a few years ago, and Vienna was the only one we did not enjoy. The people were incredibly unfriendly and as soon as you left the few beautiful areas, we didn't even find it attractive, with wires in the air everywhere, lots and lots of unattractive post-war buildings and so on, the only place we met friendly people and had a good time was the Hundertwasser building and the Fälscher Museum.

Vienna is a beautiful city, but this video doesn't really portray reality. Heldenplatz and Graben are literally 5 walking minutes apart from each other and Karlsplatz is like 10 walking minutes from Heldenplatz. All 3 buildings are all in one part of the first district, and that's the second smallest in a city made up of 23 districts. This video basically just told us "picturesque old town of european city is pretty", yeah, it would be a challenge to find a european capital where the old city center is a run down piece of garbage. Vienna also has it's fair share of ugliness, the 10th and 11th district have some pretty jarring corners to look at, literally every single stretch of meter on the Gürtel street, the dreadful Minecraft blocks that make up the new General Hospital AKH, or who could forget everyone's favorite man made horror of vehicular traffic, Matzleinsdorferplatz. Show us some hidden gems, outside of the annoying touristy areas.

I live in Vienna with my partner, a Viennese; it is truly a beautiful city. We live in the 8th district and it is very convenient for us. We have transportation in front of our building and my university and his work place only 10 min away by foot from where we live. However, not everywhere in Vienna is like that. My in-laws live in the 13th district and public transport there is pretty bad. Sometimes you have to wait for 20 min for the bus to come. It is like the suburban areas in the US, without a car you can´t go anywhere fast. So yeah, it has its pros and cons.
