Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric - Speedrun in

- Speedrun of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric that completes the game in under an hour, clocking in at 0:51:00. This time is possible by making extensive use of a glitch that allows Knuckles to jump infinitely in midair. See DarkspinesSonic's video here for an explanation on how to perform it: • Sonic Boom: Rise of Ly...
After I saw DsS's video of this glitch yesterday morning, I couldn't resist playing with it once I finished the game, and I spent some time experimenting to see just how much of the game was skippable with it. Once I confirmed you could skip the vast majority of the game, it made me curious exactly how long it would take to actually complete it, and... here we are. This is only my fourth time beating the game; my first time finishing the game ever was only a few hours before I did this run, my second time was the experimentation playthrough, and the third was another speedrun attempt (which also came in at barely under an hour - 0:59).
Taking that into account, as well as the fact that the game has only been out for two days, and it's pretty clear this time has a LOT of room for improvement left. I did not know the last two stages very well, and I suspect both that there's more places where the Knuckles glitch can save time, as well as places where I did use it but it would've been faster to just do things normally. On top of that there's plenty of mistakes and a couple instances where I missed a faster route through a level. I'm mainly uploading this because it's a lot of fun to show off regardless and a lot of people seem to be interested in it.
Follow me on Twitch if you're interested in watching some Sonic Boom livestreams soon. / parax0
Also check out DarkspinesSonic; he found the Knuckles glitch as well as a bunch of others and he'll likely be doing a lot of Sonic Boom streams in the near future. / darkspinessonic

Sonic: 'We can't reach that door'
Knuckles: 'I can!'
*starts glitch jumping around it*
😂😂😂😂😂
✨B O O M k u n c k l e s✨ HE Knew the way.
The only downside to the sequence break is that we skip this gem of a dialogue:
Sonic: "Look, ramps!"
Tails: "We can use these as ramps!"
I.... I truly hope you're kidding....

sarcasm bro
You know that diolog kind of reminds me of another game..... "What would a platforming game be with out platforms!" and "LOOK! AN ARROW! Aren't these game designers wonderful!"
***** No. Unfortunately, he is not kidding.
TheFingerTrapMaster Let's all forget that failed rivalry attempt and bury it with the shitty games it came with it.
Knuckles Boom: The Rise of The infinite jump arc.
The flip, did Knuckles cause a time paradox? I saw another set of the Sonic team during his jump

~Seren~ Hurrah for T-posing!

Does that really matter?

But alas, this doesn't mean the game rocks.

Its my head canon that Knuckles can really fly and phase through matter, but none of the other characters are intelligent enough to realize it and think they are actually doing stuff, Knuckles is actually extremely intelligent and pretends to be stupid just so he can help his friends feel important yet keep them safe.
The sounds effect of running on water.....................
It's sounds like someone slapping a raw porkchop over and over.
This is a game released in 2014...
a game released by who tho...
Belly Button Boy Maniacs
case and point
The graphics are one thing, although I do agree that even games from 1998 have better graphics than this. The fact that they managed to somehow completely neglect the thought of, I dunno...actually optimizing a damn thing except for screwing the graphics up more in 2P mode. Even Nintendo has more of my respect at the moment as they at least make their games somewhat worth your time to play.
But console gamers don't care about graphics. so what does it matter
After seeing knuckles glitch through everything as fast as he did, I would gladly change my name to knuckles jr. and be his sidekick.
Look up sonic high-school then see if out still feel that way.
"Take my gliding away will ya? Well I'll just jump in the air a bunch instead!"
yeah dont mess with the dreadlocks
Wait...thye removed Knuckles' ain aility minu his wall climbing? Well, I guess nuckles is telling them they should've just left the gliding in!
Who said Knuckles can't glide in this game xD
He and Tails swapped abilities. Now Tails glides and Knuckles flies.
knuckles flying confirmed in sonic boom :P
Paraxade0
well, it was just supposed to be a transfer and switch (Tails gets glide, and Knux cant do nutin of the such), but ... well, yeah.
Sonic Boom: Rise of Knuckles.
When I recalled that there was a "Year of Buff", with Knuckles getting Muscles... He truly did, out-trained himself right there. ;)
"Let's figure out a way to get across this."
*jumps across*
"WE DID IT!"
I love how 35:25 to 37:50 the characters talk about how they are going to do something and knuckles does everything
7:07 "Anyone see a way forward?"
Knuckles: Oh I do.
This is seriously impressive. The game only came out a few days ago and already you've found all these speed run techniques AND you memorised fast ways of finishing each and every level! You are one smart gamer!!
Smaaaaarter then your average sonic boom dev.
SUPER BOOST RING
Jesus, the game's only been out for a day, and you're already speedrunning?
Doesn't jumping during the high speed road give you ridiculous speed at certain angles?
So. I noticed during the SUPER BOOST RING sections, if you jump and attack at the same time with sonic he'll Jump first then attack then jump again. I can't tell if that makes him move faster or not.

Why he didn't do anything illegal
J Blarp they only pulled down a Let's Play that was posted before the game actually came out. I don't know of any instances of them taking down footage that was posted after release.
Domy Albaoud J Blarp Paraxade0 I wasn't talking about the footage,I was talking about breaking this BRAND NEW game THIS MUCH after release. :S
GoalRingMod27 It was arleady broken.
GoalRingMod27 They are not allowed to take it down just because of the fact their new game is being shown in a negative light. Also it falls under fair use for use of education, aka teaching that this game is shit. :D
Person 1: Knuckles lost his glide ability.
Person 2: No he didn't.
"I think only you can do this. I know you can do this."
And then Knuckles proves them all wrong.
When Sonic started running on water and it sounded like a weak faucet I lost it.
Lmao yeah that's terrible. All the sound effects are pretty bad actually
There are a lot of missing sound effects, old/reused sound effects, just no one cared is all.
Weak faucet? I thought it sounded more like a dog lapping up his own vomit. I think that's a much more fitting visual.
35:30
Amy: It worked! I did it!
Knuckles: . . .
36:10
Sonic: Tails, you're the only one that can do this!
Knuckles: *Does it himself*
Lol
Don't know why you guys hate this. It remains faithful to the series. See how fast you can finish the fucking game. XD
Tails: "I don't think I can do this..."
Sonic: "Only you can do this."
NOPE KNUCKLES GLITCH
Clearly Knuckles is the true hero of this game.
"Sonic! you fear you dont understand" Knuckles says as he hops through the air
"Nothing is stable in here"
You are 100% right
"You're the only one who can do this" As Knuckles proceeds to do everything.
18:20
Knuckles plz
I find Tails' line around 31:00 of "More showing me, less telling me" to be *offensive*, given the rest of this game's unfailing trend of having the characters tell you EXACTLY WHAT TO DO AT ALL TIMES.
Sonic: We can't reach that door!
Knuckles: I CAN!
wow this game just came out and it's already got a game breaking glitch
Sonic Boom: the Rise of Knuckles
Dang. All those "You're the only one who can do this," and Knuckles does it all.
I couldn't help myself but laugh when Knuckles would do something and someone else would yell "I DID IT!"
46:47 "I'll make this quick" "knuckles, you rock!" truer words have not been spoken.
"This is not what it looks like, Sonic! This is as DESIGNED!" - Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik 2014
"This is not what it looks like, Sonic! This is as DESIGNED!" -BRB
I love this game so much. So much fun, so many glitches, and Knux is a speedrunning tool!
You know.... Im starting to think the guys at Big Red Button got fired instead of leaving from Naughty Dog because of shit like this.
U made my night xD
Should have named their studio "Bounce Pads" instead XD
You know what they say; "Ex-Employees".
Solid StrangeDew Look at their website. It hasn't been updated since 2014, and their Twitter page went mysteriously quiet after this game came out. Kind of sad, really.
Seamus Burke They were probably sent to Silent Hill by Sega.
wow it's day-1 and you already manage to break this game
22:30 "This is harder than I thought. Stand still!" -_-
THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!
36:34
"I can"
Oh Knuckles you crazy SOB XD you did all of the work here lol
Knuckles: (In amy's voice) I did it!
18:21 Good lord.
This game is a freaking mess.
***** Thanks, Laila ;-)
***** :^)
FusionComet Because Sonic is in it? I find it hard how games that are more unfinished than boom gets higher praised yet boom gets lower just because Sonic is in it. Games are not nearly as black and white as people make them out to be. People like you are the reason to why I don`t want to exist on this planet anymore.
BoomSonicSuper Uh, what...? A bad game is a bad game no matter what it is. There is no fucking excuse for this shit.
Where the fuck did you pull the "Sonic" shit out from?
You have fun and Big Red Button cries.
Darío OMG ITS YOU RICH EVANS
I love how they scene after the credits implies that a sequel to this game is an actual possibility.
Knuckles:”Why do we always go to abandoned places?”
Sonic:”You never grab too many rings!”
Knuckles Boom: Rise of Glitches
Who knew that the most powerful attack in the game was Pause.
That glitch is fucking hilarious. I don't think this game is really bad, but that is a hilarious oversight.
Laughed too hard when he started infinite jumping. XD
"Anyone see a way forward?"
Knuckles:
With all this broken gameplay and whips, why do I have a feeling that Silver would fit in perfectly?
Ha- BING n- BING g on- BING S- BING on- BING ic! BING
It's no use. Sonic is dead.
Man, Sonic Colors was the best shit. Sonic Generations was even BETTER. Sonic Lost World was pretty eh but it was still alright. Sonic Boom is the 'no it was a fluke the whole time oops'.
Just make Generations 2 please. We won't care if it's samey, Mario gets away with it constantly.
Emmanuel Florian
Right cuz New Super Mario Brothers 19 is gonna be the next innovation in gaming.
simon fakename Mario 3D World was actually different
***** Firstly, 3D World was a rehash of 3D Land sprinkled with easy-target Super Mario 3 nostalgia to make all the fans immediately love it. I'm not saying it's BAD, it's just a formula that happens to work.
Secondly I was more just making a joke to detract from the rather bleak tone of my initial post. I didn't expect people to get defensive, the mario comment wasn't the point.
The main point of the post is that Sonic should take a leaf out of Mario's book and just... make more generations/colors style games for a while.
Experimentation is nice but the developers simply don't have enough time to make a good Sonic game anymore. I'd rather a mediocre but functional Generations clone than another attempt to 'save sonic' again. You already did, keep doing that thing.
*****
I never said CoD wasn't a clone of itself, and neither did I say copying the same thing over and over was bad (though the NSMB series is starting to feel very 'plastic'). If a game style works, it works, and Sonic is guilty of the exact opposite- reinventing itself so often that it has no time to fit into something good.
It's just that Mario has had basically two control styles, ever, Mario 64 and Mario 2D. That's pretty much it, and he's stuck with those exact controls, moves, and basic enemy design since those games with some minor crossover between the two styles, where, say, Assassin's Creed, as a modern example, changes the list of avaliable weapons, adds and polishes styles of assassination, increases methods and efficiency of travel...
That isn't to say Assassin's Creed is a better series than Mario. One of them has lived for longer than I have for a very good reason, and Tetris survived longer without changing anything at all.
Mario simply has a formula that works and a team that are familiar with how to make that formula work.
Let's Pause: Sonic Boom: Knuckles does everything
And people say Knuckles can't glide in this continuity
Here's a more accurate tittle for this game:
*Sonic Boom: Well we tried*
3:10
Amy: "Looks like we have a fight Knuckles!"
Knuckles: *Begins infinite jumps* "Nopenopenopenopenopenopenopenopenopenope"
*looks at the credits*
Lead Character Artist: Daniel Ramirez
THAT's the person you can thank for making Knuckles into the huge human-handed freak he is now!
he will not live to see the next day
Omg I can’t breathe of how funny this is 🤣🤣🤣
6:06
"we won't let you get away."
"My dear."
**Rocks fall, everyone dies**
Omg I can’t breathe 🤣🤣🤣
"Stand still"
I took a dump and when i came back the game was finished.
It's ya boy Knuckles
And we're in Sonic Boom
Help me break the game's sequence
Are ya ready?
I can't let the game get to me
It's just gotta break
Down in Sonic Boom
I go through walls that are fake
I know that it's bad
But I just do not care why
The great pause cancel's jump
Allows me to fly
I can't see a thing
But it's around somewhere,
I'm gonna hold my head
'Cause I have no fear.
This speedrun looks crazy
The game looks stupid
A foe tries to approach me?
Fly above it
Fuck I can't do the whole song, I'll just leave this here unfinished, like this game
Sonic: "Hmm, looks like it's seen better days..." Me: "So have your games"
Brought here by the Game Grumps. This is exactly what I expected it to be.
same
GOTTA GO SLIGHTLY FAST
22:37
Eggman: This is harder than I thought! Stand still!
Amy: I am standing still!!!
Amy: "Looks like we have a fight, Knuckles!"
Knuckles: "Lol nope" ~jumps over door~
7:05 Sonic: Anyone see a way forward
Knuckles: *glitches game over cliff*
I'm so done hahahah
***** ***** Dipto Chakravarty
Look at this top of the line product folks. xD
And the worse part is people actually defend this.
Dipto Chakravarty And the worse part is, they only had one person test the game for bugs and then Sega didn't send out review copies. That just shows they really don't care about the quality of their games as they knew this was bad and really don't care about their fans. Pathetic.
Aeon Break 57:26
Paraxade0 Hm, I could have sworn there was a version of the credits that had only one guy as a tester, this actually makes this even more sad though. How in the hell are glitches this game-breaking over looked?
Aeon Break The "one guy" is from the section of the credits for Illfonics; in other words, it's the only QA tester who worked at the game who was from that particular company. There's a lot more listed later on, though, because most of them worked for Sega.
***** Yeah, my interest has been dwindling also. Sucks too because Sonic was one of my favorite childhood video game characters.
the amount of times they said "only (insert character name here) can do this" and of course knuckles just clears everything.
"Knuc--boop!--kles, yo--boop!--u ro-boop!--ck!"
Guess those steroids gave Knuckles the ability to jump infinitely.
16:02 Kunckles: "Here we gooo!!!" *infinite jump's*
Oh, looks like Knuckles can actually glide in this game XD
57:35
thats kind of a fuckload of qa testers
and
it still ended up like
excuse me while i punch some walls
They didn't try everything.
Sai Kisaragi looks to me like they didnt try anything!!!!!!!!
Keaton, you want ch this guy and hutts, are you God?
Sissy Longlegs :D i pretty much watched this guy once
Sir Keaton I know what happened :D
The play testers, got some donuts, thank the guys that gave them the donuts and said "Yeah, this game is great! It's Sonic! What could possibly go wrong?"
58:40 What the f-
22:35 "This is harder than I thought. Stand still!"
But... I am standing still.
35m55s
Sonic: "Tails...I think only you can do this."
Knuckles proceeds to do Tails's job for him
Lol this game.
Sonic Boom, the game of a thousand puns!
This game should be the entire Awful Games block at SGDQ 2015
Crash the Hedgeicoot
Coco the COCOnut
I didn't watch the whole thing but it's nice seeing you play through this and thanks for sharing this for us to see 😃
Sonic: Let's figure out a way to get across this.
*double jumps to the other side*
Sonic: We DID IT!
saddest thing about this game is that the cartoon set after it isnt too bad for kids by modern cartoon standards has a ye olde saturday morning cartoon feel which has been missing from TV for many years now =/
castledragonsword I love Sonic Boom. It isn't a good Sonic show, but it doesn't have to be because it's alternate universe. It's hilarious!
castledragonsword I love Sonic Boom. It isn't a good Sonic show, but it doesn't have to be because it's alternate universe. It's hilarious!
They knew the game was bad so they gave you the option to skip as much of you wanted. Clearly Knuckles infinite jump was an intended feature.
How hateful can the fanbase get?!?
"Sonic! You're the only one who can get up ther-"
*pause screen , pause screen , pause screen*
lol that infinite jump glitch is EPIC!
18:23
Ok then... Bye Knuckles!
Knuckles the echidna? More like knuckles the helicopter!
"Guys we can't get through that door!"
Knuckles: "I can!"
that put the smuggest smirk on my face.
Y'know, what gets me about Boom (Wii U at least) is that it's been in development for, what, three years or so? And it's not like BRB are complete newcomers to the gaming industry, IIRC a lot of them worked on games like Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, things like that. I could be wrong, but I think I heard that the game had a $20 million budget, too (Though I'm not sure if that was for the Wii U game specifically, both Wii U and 3DS games, or the Boom project as a whole).
What the hell happened? Sonic 2006 also suffered from being buggy and unpolished as fuck, but we already know that the development team was not only relatively small (IIRC it got split in half at one point so the other half could work on SatSR), they were pressured for time and developing for two consoles at once.
I've seen a lot of "lol Sonic 2014" jokes about Boom, and from what I've seen, I'm not inclined to disagree. I just... What the hell could've happened to make Boom end up like this?
"what girl doesn't like rings" - Amy Rose 2014
Damn it Amy you're part of the problem.
