    Hi Sam, again a really wonderful presentation. A great collection. I have many diesels. Mostly German diesel locos and DMUs. But I have British too, 4 different Class 42 Warships, 1 Class 52, 1 Class 55, 1 Class 110 3-car DMU, 1 GWR diesel railcar, the Kestrel, the Lion, and the Falcon. I love them all so as you yours. Cheers, Norbert

    I think 13:44 is my favourite batch. I really like the class 86 in this livery, all the three 31's and both hymeks. All of them easily on my "favourites of british non-steamers" list together with class 40 and 37 (and maybe class 83 because it was a base for the most popular electric loco here in Poland called EU06 and its successor EU07).

    2:46 That diesel is called an F40PH. Was the ruler of America's passenger trains for a good while until they were eventually phased out and replaced with the P40/P42 locomotives. They're actually still used on a select few commuter rail lines today.

    Crikey that’s a lot of engines!
    So someone else has commented, but the first locomotive was indeed an Amtrak EMD F40PH #229. 229 was the final locomotive in Amtrak’s first order and is referred to as a Phase I F40. The F40s were the first new locomotives that were successful for Amtrak and they became THE motive power for Amtrak from the late 70s into the 90s. It is also in the Phase 2 Amtrak paint scheme which was the first paint scheme that the F40s were painted in.
    The Union Pacific loco was an EMD F7A, I believe, but that was hard to tell and the Santa Fe locomotives looked like EMD E8’s
    Great channel!

    The first American diesel was an EMD F40PH, and I recall their being some F unit in there. I can’t for the life of me figure out which F unit, or what the green switcher was. The two Santa Fe’s donated to you were E-units, which I’ve never seen in a Red Bonnet before! It’s okay if you don’t know American locos, of all those British ones only knew of the Blue Pullman’s before hand!

    • @davidarnold2173
      @davidarnold2173 5 лет назад

      Sante Fe ran E units south towards Texas as the land was reasonably flat, they ran F units east-west as the land was mountainous & the two axle trucks (bogies) had greater adhesion on the steep gradients. Most of the western railroads used F units for this reason while the six axle units were favoured in the mid-west,the south & the east.

    That old Amtrak engine is an EMD F40PH. As for the Union Pacific it's an F7A. It's very hard to tell the difference between the F3, F7, and F9 as most of the differences were internal on the real thing (and some were rebuilt and upgraded to the later models) but both Bachmann and UP's locomotive roster say it's an F7.

    Have you reviewed the class 15 and class 17 Clayton diesels yet. I have a 17 from Heljan and I love it. Interestingly, it seems to have a low maximum speed even when the power is turned up. Wonder if it reflects it's use as a mainly mineral hauling loco. I think they were mainly employed in Scotland. Heljan also do the 15.

    As others have mentioned, the Santa Fe locomotives are modeled after the EMD E8A passenger locomotive. The Tri-Ang Transcontinental loco looks (loosely) based on the E8 also. The website American Rails is a good source of general information on American and Canadian locomotives and railroads, with the E8 page as an example. www.american-rails.com/7812.html

  • @MrBnsftrain

    I consider each multiple unit set (super voyager, pacer, etc.) to be one loco, while one blue pullman end car or HST end end to be one loco. I also counted the diesels and electrics shown in the steam collection video
    2:48 that is an F40PH in Amtrak Phase II (when was the last time you ran it)
    15 locos in the first drawer
    12 in the 2nd drawer (The Union Pacifc engine is an EMD F7)
    8:55 I beleive that is an Alco S2 (when was the last time you ran that one?)
    10 in the 3rd drawer
    10:35 Those are either E8 or E9 locomotives (both types are the same on the outside)
    3 locos in the 4th drawer (those passenger cars are very similar to what I own, and have suggested)
    19 locos in the yellow drawers
    3 in the orange drawer
    16:09 in real life, all the cars of a Super Voyager are powered
    So 64 additional locomotives were shown in this video, which means you collection has *390* locomotives and multiple units! Hopefully, this will help you remeber when you get your 400th locomotive/multiple unit and can celebrate!

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  5 лет назад

      @@SamsTrains that would be the tilting mechanism in the powered car, IC82 did a video about it a few years back. If you take the body off and loosen the bogie screws slightly it should work better. Another potential problem is the close coupling, your layout has some tight curves and some that even curve one direction then the other. Tight track like that can also be a problem for them, I learned this from a temporary layout I had once and my friends voyager.

While I personally think the American F3 diesel with its raised roof fans & it’s chicken wire side grills is an interesting model I would rather recommend a Budd Rail Diesel Car_ RDC made by those Canadian folk at Rapido Models which have been previewed on their RUclips channel.
