People are scandalous and will lie to take advantage of this. I'm in California and have listened to employees talk about this. They know it's law that they do not have to have any proof of a family problem. They just lie and get paid time off while the small business struggles to stay open.

My dad, a 4th grade dropout in order to work and help the two women who were his Guardians to eat and himself! He was found at by my mom at 42, DEAD from a heart attack, laying on the sofa with the book he was reading at the time: WAR and PEACE, resting on his chest! I used to say as a child the weight of that book alone is what killed him!!!
When people said in those days, you couldn't survive if you didn't have a high school diploma, and at least some college in the sixties, because both my parents to leave high school before graduating, and they were extremely successful at what they were doing in the early work life, and later in life.
When my dad left school in the fourth grade, he left to become a milkman's assistant, running the fresh milk up to the front door of rowhouses, and bringing back the return bottles to the milk truck, while the milk driver himself recorded what he received back and what he put out of the door, and drove in those days a horse and carriage. My dad was paid by how many empty bottles he brought back and how many full bottles he put out along with pennies for extra products. It his twenties he worked at Philadelphia Navy Yard, when world war Ii started in 42 he went into the Navy took every course they offered him to take during his time as a Navy man, when he came out of the Navy he drove Taxi, finally having secured enough reading and writing knowledge, he applied to Bell Telephone in PA, and worked to his dying day in 1961--one of two Winters, 60 and 61 in Philly, when we had tremendous SNOWS! The PHONE, in electric repairman, and mailman worked18 and 20 hour days 6 days a week both of those winters!
I as the next generation did similar- - I did graduate from high school, I went into the workforce has a secretary, I became an office manager, and active in my church, found a job at a university, took college courses and finished my undergraduate degree with a major and two minors, except for my freshman English, math and my freshman science! Doing my science now in my 70s, because for the last 40 years I RAISED and managed LARGE numbers of sheep, their lambs and produced EXCELLENT GRASSFED MEAT LAMBS in ritual upstate NY, ALONE!, very successfully!

Just look at the cost of goods and services nowadays. Overall things cost significantly more whether it is homes/rent, groceries, insurances, autos, gas, utilities, etc. One thing is true that we can all agree on is that inflation is already present. There is also a greater divide between the have and have nots.

Mr Horsford, to suggest that individuals at the lower pay levels should get the same benefits as those at the higher levels is simply stupid. Pay is based on how much profit a company can make using your labor. This concept of deserving what someone else earned puts businesses out of business. Well they need to pay more as inflation is already hitting. The minimum wage jobs don’t pay bills even with 3 18 year olds working those jobs they cannot afford a place for themselves. The rate of pay doesn’t match rising rent costs and even everyday things such as food. I don’t know the answer and I do understand the struggles of some of the companies and how paying more would hurt them but smarter people than me are supposed to be on this. When people respond “get a better job then” (maybe they have) if they all do who will make your breakfast and coffee? We need them as well. I’m not saying it’s a skill all jobs need to increase pay for average workers in all fields.

I went from a driver to office manager in 9 months too . I learned from it and now do not tolerate healthy people being homeless , so get a job and a home people you can do it too .

When that woman states that the economy of her state California has a very strong Konomi it makes me feel slightly confused because when I last went to California I witnessed something I never seen before or even thought possible which were entire streets and blocks filled with people living on the sidewalk. When I saw driving through the streets of 100 if not thousands of human beings have allowed themselves to be reduced to what looked like NOTHING! as if they experienced hardship’s that just made them give up on not only wife but themselves . it’s flat out sickening and disturbing and concerning for state that has such a strong economy and if it was an independent country Would be rated fifth for Best economy then how is it possible for so many people to be living on the streets as walking living proof that state gives them nothing else to live for in the world than to live on the streets especially when allowing thousands of illegal immigrants to interstate Inn be put in hotels and give them clothes and food stamps and other assisted-living options yet the American citizens on the street are left to fend for themselves 😢 Seeing skid row in real life breaks my heart especially in a state full of politicians say they are fighting for the American people that they care so much for yet allow that to happen

I hate to tell you but....I've filled out 65 plus applications over a three-month period and have only gotten two replies ffom employers who by the way, only offer part-time work. That sucks.
In my case, I got very lucky sorting out two jobs which happened to be right next to each other and have been willing to suit my scheduling needs.
Few people have my situation, so they prioritize their needs by not choosing either job.
Look up the employment in California, lots of business looking for employee, no one wants to work
