This news has deeply affected me. I was aware of his struggles and held onto hope that he would recover. His passing was unexpected. At least now, his suffering has ended, and he will be profoundly missed.
Douglas has done very well to reach the age of 76 and that his legacy is the work that he's done being a health educator and the whole RUclips channel. The videos themselves will continue to help more people in many years to come! Thanks Gerry for the update and the work you have done with Douglas!

So shaken. I had a once in a lifetime experience to talk with him on the phone a couple months ago. He was suffering from a horrible bout ot plantar fasciitis at the time. I am experiencing severe emotional and physical pain and it was reassuring to hear his voice. His caregiver and his wife Joan were in the background. He has finally arrived at a peace and joy that surpasses all understanding. We will surely all miss him. And we'll get to see him again when its our turn. I can't comfort his wife, cat, or anyone close to him. But he's at last free and his contributions to us all who struggle will never be forgotten. Sincerely, Larry

How did Douglas Die. I spoke to Douglas' brother Ted and he said it was neurodegenerative decease. Douglas' health went downhill after his knee replacement. He couldn't sleep until his health declined so much he went into the hospital. He went into a comma after a medical procedure and passed away quietly.

In 2018 I suffered from my 2nd major depression. I remember watching Doug's videos a lot that year. For some reason the mellow intro tune of his videos always had a soothing effect on me. Over the past 4 years my depression has lessened and I have stopped watching Doug's videos. But I've never forgotten how much his videos and his book meant to me in my darkest moments. When I first started on this mental health recovery journey there was a lot of different people on YT offering advice. Douglas and his story resonated with me the most. In 2018 I suffered from my 2nd major depression.
I remember watching Doug's videos a lot that year. For some reason the mellow intro tune of his videos always had a soothing effect on me.
Over the past 4 years my depression has lessened and I have stopped watching Doug's videos. But I've never forgotten how much his videos and his book meant to me in my darkest moments.
What you did eased my suffering. Thank you for that Douglas!

I discovered Douglas 2 years ago when I was going through a hard time and didn’t know anything about mental health. He is truly heroic in what he has provided humanity all over the world. I feel like I have lost a friend and hope to continue living with his teachings in me.

When I first started on this mental health recovery journey there was a lot of different people on YT offering advice. Douglas and his story resonated with me the most. I loved his humor, practical advice and live q&a’s. My life is much better thanks to all the people in my life that have helped me through this journey. Douglas is one of those people. I hope this channel continues to help people in their moments of despair as it did for me. Thank you too to all the people that helped Douglas create this content. I am heartbroken by this news. I found Douglas’s videos about 3 years ago. The information and light Douglas shared definitely help change me for the better. I have struggled with depression and anxiety (OCD) for 25 years. Finding Douglas was a Godsend for me and he offered so much hope for me. I will miss him dearly.

My God, such a shocker! I have suffered with depression on and off since Covid. Douglas’ videos always gave me some hope I could make it through the darkest of times. Hopefully he is in a better place now free from all suffering and at peace. Thank you for all the work you’ve done Douglas!
