I currently have a “one watch collection”. Two-tone Aqua terra on a leather strap, dress watch-ish sporty watch to go anywhere and do anything, for both formal and casual occasions.
But I’m saving up for a second watch because I really regret selling my 124200 OP😢

Yay: three cheers for Atmos! They ARE discussed a lot, but not so much in the usual watch channels on the youtube. Atmos people are usually of a certain age and prefer to be among themselves and don´t have any need to advertise the fact that they have one or more at home. Another thing: I would probably never buy a new one. Many auctions offer barely or not working ones for not much money and I would go for it, particularly if it is a properly old one: mine is from 1964 with full box set and full papers and when I bought it, it barely moved. I sent it to the JLC service (which was NOT cheap!) and now have a beautifully working clock that keeps incredibly accurate time. And yes, I DO STARE AT IT FOR HOURS AND HOURS, for no reason whatsoever😇

There is a part within Longines that is even more underrated and I'm talking about the pre Swatch vintage Longines. These have the in-house calibers that Longines used to use before they were taken over by Swatch which then swarmed their catalogue with eta based modern pieces.

I love my Omega Railmaster. It’s the perfect GADA watch. I use it day to day at the office, dresses up easy either on the bracelet or on a leather strap. Works on a nato very well. And because it’s brushed all over it flies under the radar for travel. Perfect counterpoint to my weekend watch which is a SMP300

Vacheron have sooooooo much more to offer than the OS. Their historiques, the 222 and the cornes de vache (in plat this is my absolute grail watch without a doubt) especially, are much more interesting than the OS. Longines are only underrated in North America. They sold 1.6 million watches last year and are massive in China. They are the 3rd highest luxury selling watch brand after Omega and Cartier in that country.
As for Grand Seiko, their more textured dials can be stunning, but I'm not sure if they are 'everyday' watches necessarily. Depends on the model. I actually prefer some of their plainer watches, such as SBGA375, which could be compared to the Oyster Perpetual or latest Aqua Terra models. It terms of movement, it blows them away, and the finishing is better too.

The Atmos is an engineering marvel. JLC has mastered the reduction of friction in order to produce a timepiece that effectively runs on changes in ambient air pressure. The problem that owners discover, however, is that they require perfect balance and rigorous maintenance to properly function, so they often become intricate looking mantle pieces that do nothing more than collect dust.

I've always loved the new Longines flagship moonphases! Definitely a great budget alternative to the JLC Ultrathin Moonpase (my favorite JLC line)...I just wish the Longines were a tad less thick.
The new Glassbox Carrera is very popular, not underrated at all.
The IWC Portofino is an excellent choice since most people go Portugueser over Portofinio.
And that GS SBGW231 is pure class, you should review the SBGW287 in that deep burgundy red! I have it and I love it. The 231 and the 283 do get decent amount of praise when people talk about the SBGW line since the 231 is the classic cream dial and the 283 is light blue.
For Omega, the railmaster and the globemaster are getting more attention since plenty of people have been doing videos about how underrated they are, but the PO is pretty rated too and fights with the SMP for most popular diver; also the Omega DeVille line is definitely underrated.
As for Rolex Explorer 2, only that black dial is underrated (really just underhyped but I am sure they still sell like hotcakes) just because the white dial is all the hype.

For a Grail watch or even a one watch Collection, what do you think about the Grand SEIKO Cherry Blossom. It seems to be gathering a few eyes and is considered a Luxury watch. ?

You have made some good points, I know you couldn't see it because you're way over there and I'm way over here...but I gave you a wrinkle face when you mention the Rolex. That was a swing and a miss ;) I love the Atmos

Love the Longines brand of watches. Question, just curious why you prefer hand wound dress watches? New to watch collecting myself.

    • @MrPleers
      @MrPleers Месяц назад +4

Because handwound watches usually are less thick than automatic ones. And dresswatches are supposed to slide under the cuff.

Britt, I just discovered your channel and I enjoy watching it. You have a great personality ! One piece of advice. The microphone is far too dominating. Big black thing that obscures you. Suggest you get yourself one of those small digital clip-ons.

Underrated, all the Omegas that are not the zillionth version of a Seamaster, like the Railmaster.
