One of Elton's best songs.... unfortunately underrated by snobbish elitists and forgotten by many.

Hugely underrated and one of his better works. Can remember this (from 1981), and it’s the first time I’ve heard it since then after searching for it 🎹👍 🥰

Elton's catalogue of songs is large. Any fan could have a very different combination of top 10s. Mine would include this song along with I need you to turn to, the greatest discovery, Come Down in time, MMATW, Holiday Inn, Mona Lisas and Madhatters, Blues for my Baby, High flying bird, All the GIrls love Alice, Harmony, Captain Fantastic, Chloe... I only made it to 1981. There are like 10-15 more excellent ones. Blue Avenue is one and his entire disco albums.

Great synth work by Steve Porcaro and David Paich.

One of Elton's most underatted songs❤

This is the piece that made me transition from classical to pop music in 1981. It scared me so much when I first heard it back then. It was like a stab. I recorded a snippet on a cassette that I really didn't want to dub. It was only a few seconds. I rewound it over and over and over again. I was ten then. These seconds shaped me, because since then I've known that I can't do anything with happy music. I felt the pain in this piece and in myself. I was probably already a goth then and still am today, even if you don't see it anymore. This song keeps me captive. Yesterday, today and probably forever. Perhaps secretly my most important piece. It hits me so deeply and I can say with conviction that I am. Pure longing... MM (D/1970)

Please can someone make a 9 minute re-edit of this?

A great track with David Paich and Steve Porcaro playing and programing synths!

Great song. Best concert I ever saw was Sir Elton John here in Lubbock Texas with some original members from the 70s. Around 2010. He didn’t play this song but the beat is awesome . The strings make this song shine

Like this song and most of the album, belongs to his best albums in the eighties. It's stylish.

I will never understand why this song of his is virtually unknown. I’ve loved it since it was first released when I bought the single.

This song had the dubious distinction of taking the biggest jump within the top 40 during the '80s that didn't reach the top 20!On 6/6/81 nobody wins jumped from #40 to #27 but peaked at #21 for 2 weeks on 6/20/81!
