Poor Joseph. The man's inherently passive nature, when combined with his gullibility & generosity, resulted in the two people closest to him battling for who could gain the most beneficial advantages by using him. In the end, only one of them found murder to be an effective strategy for achieving these malicious desires and it came with the added benefit of eliminating the competition. As tragic as it was, I'm very glad that motorcycle rider happened to stumble upon their remains... because it would be far more tragic had Chase actually gotten away with such atrocities.
Could you analyze the the missing case of Michelle Parker. She was the woman who appeared on The People’s Court with Judge Marilyn Milian, with her ex-fiancé, and went missing just hours after their episode aired. The ex-fiancé was accused of committing violent behavior towards Ms. Parker in front of her twins. I remember, as Ms. Parker was describing their relationship and the horrid events that took place, the ex-fiancé became embarrassed. I also think Judge Milian made him feel more embarrassed when she asked certain questions or made certain comments that elicited laughter from the audience, in my opinion. It’s been 11 years since she has disappeared, and there has been no updates.

I lived in the area and followed this case thoroughly, the law enforcement involved should be completely ashamed of themselves, they completely ignored overwhelming evidence that something terrible had happened based on a car being parked on a Mexican border, by their murderer of course. The lead detective insisted that the family just abandon their home, dogs, car, business, bank accounts and everything in their lives and walked on foot into Mexico? If their bodies were never found their murderer would still be free due to horrific detective work.
Wow. I've often thought about this family and wondered where they were. I eventually heard bodies were found in the desert and authorities said it could be the Mcstays. Another Fantastic and intriguing video Dr. G!! 👍💖 A few things about this case are especially stomach churning to me- the fact that a SLEDGE HAMMER was the murder weapon (just BRUTAL!) and 2 completely innocent little children died. What's with these monsters that can kill human beings, especially children, and then just discard them like Trash, all over problems that could be worked out or avoided?? Truly sad! But relayed SO WELL and perfectly by the Incredible Doc Grande here, as per usual, Thanks for another intriguing case, Dr. Grande, all the Love!! 👍💕🤓💖🧠😘🌵🥰
Why did the cops not have the "murder weapon" DNA tested?????? Does Dr. G have the answer to this question? Too many unanswered questions in this case. And Dr G just believes everything he hears - if you believe all you hear you would eat all you see. People tell lies - especially if they have something to hide
Probably Chase either made her look up the searches or made her give him her log in info and looked it up on her computer to make it look like she was doing those searches. Then he took them to the dessert and killed them. That’s my guess. I doubt she was a horrible wife, they just had a particular dynamic that isn’t necessarily the most common.
I agree. The only real evidence that she had “anger issues” was somebody looked up a homeopathic remedy for anger management on their computer. That fit in nicely when Chase was spreading those wild stories later on to incriminate her. Victim-blaming is disgusting and I hate to see Grande perpetuate it.
Dr Grande I would love to see your analysis on David Glen Lewis. He was a lawyer from Amarillo TX who vanished during Super Bowl weekend in 1993 only to end up disoriented on a rural highway in Washington. He was stuck and killed by a hit and run driver. He had no identification so it took years to identify. No one knows why or how he ended up there and he has no connections to the state of Washington. Really interesting case that doesn't get a lot of attention.
That's the guy who disappeared with the video still taping. It was suspected that he tried to flee because his life and family was threatened. I'm not sure if it's true or not but I heard about it somewhere else.
Hi, Dr. Grande. I've brought this up a few times and I'm probably being annoying, but can you please do a video about Robert Raymond Cook, the last man to be hanged in the Canadian province of Alberta? I'd really love to know if you think he's guilty or not.
I don't think Dr Grande is open-minded enough to give an opinion, he appears to be gullible, like no matter what anyone said he would believe- no questions asked. His is a subjective opinion, nothing more
Law enforcement really dropped the ball on this case. They didn't do any forensics until yrs had passed when the scene was inconsistent with them leaving voluntarily. They left with no money, clothes and she left without her prescription glasses? Maybe he threatened with killing the kids and piled them into their own car to kill them in the desert they were found. I went to school in that town and it was a puzzling case for the longest time. It took years but I'm glad they finally got justice.
I’m still trying to figure out why the brother didn’t think it was weird that own his brother wouldn’t pick up his fathers phone calls. Then when his dad asked him to go check on him he acted like it was too much work and he was too busy…also why take a computer and have your mother clean the house when it’s an active investigation…idk certain things don’t really add up imo
Yes I recall this case, the police put far to much credence in the video of the family walking into Mexico and let this case go cold. The case was only solved because of the extreme lucky sighting of human remains in the desert. What kind of a monster even murders the children?? So sad
I've heard a lot about the McStay family but never heard Summer McStay described this way, it is very interesting context. I appreciate your videos, Dr. Grande.
Perhaps you could analyze Clay and Sheila Fletcher, who left their daughter on the couch for 12 years until her recent horrific death. I don't know what could make me understand this. Thank you.
That photo of the family crossing the bridge, the internet searches for Spanish language, and documents required for children going to Mexico sure could lead someone to believe they simply went to Mexico.
Sure, but only a really lazy detective. In every case a disappearance and murder - _you look for who benefits._ When somebody has motive, means, opportunity, a rap sheet, oh, and no alibi...That's your man. You just follow the money. The police screwed this up beyond repair. All the evidence have been taken care of. We members of society got lucky - because they're investigation was botched. I hope this incident is used as a teaching tool today on how not to do police work.
So unfortunate the lengths some people go to to feed an addiction. The commercials interrupted during some key moments so I may have missed it but isn’t it possible that Chase did the computer searches about passports etc. while visiting?! Just to throw off the police into believing they fled?
Hello Dr Grande, I watched a documentary about this family and I'm now settled, looking forward to hearing your analysis 👍. Edit : you're spot on Sir great analysis.
What a horrible situation. I also believe Chase , was guilty. I believe he murdered them for revenge and money. It's so sad the children were murdered.. Chase in my opinion is an evil man. Thank you Dr Grande. Brilliant analysis and sad topic.

To many unanswered questions - why did "Summer" have so many aliases? Did someone from her past catch up with her/ Was it the brothers truck that left the house, and not Chase's truck?
I've heard about this story many times over the years and I just can't wrap my head around it. How can a man beat two little boys to death with a sledgehammer after watching them grow up? I can't fathom it. I also didn't know about Summer being so jealous and controlling. That was an eye opener. Thank you for an unbiased telling of this tragedy.
I had to rewatch thinking I missed something out, so Chase went to the house with a relative of the family to check.. 🤮 If indeed he caused the demise of the family, what a heartless individual he is! Hello Dr Grande, I earnestly appreciate your work, your intellect on mental health concerns. I’m glad I found your channel. Thank you kindly! 🌻 Xx
You should do one on The Lester Street Murders in Menphis TN. Very very bad and gruesome. 6 Murders all his own family. Was gang related. A kid survived with a knife sticking out of head. A little skewed on the details but he got 6 death sentences plus 120 years.
I remember this tragedy, it wasn't gang related he was just envious of his brother A brother that was attempting to help him seeing as he was recently released from prison. He felt the family abandoned him during his incarceration. The saddest part was when his mom asked him why did he kill the kids the babies? He whispered "they saw me".
I never understood how someone could kill an entire family with a sledgehammer in that house and there was not obvious evidence everywhere. They find minute blood splatter from homicides long ago in places impossible to reach by just cleaning. No one did a luminol test? Very unusual case.
I thought the same thing. Maybe Joseph met him somewhere else, was killed there, then Chase drove Joe's vehicle to the house. Somehow abducted the mother and kids, and killed them elsewhere.
@@eadweard. Yes, it was mentioned that a room was repainted, but the police never did any forensic analysis, so who knows. No matter where it was done, this was horrific.
I'm so glad you reviewed this case! I've always found this one so intriguing! Please consider analyzing the case of Cissy Saltzman and Robyn Davis. I would love to hear your thoughts on that another very intriguing case
Dr Grande, maybe check out the credentials of Renee Ellory, who has a blog Eyes For Lies. While she no longer provides in depth analyses on cases for her blog, at the time of the Mcstay family disappearance she did. She had some interesting observations.
I remember Joseph's mother said in a documentary that he would never just disappear from his eldest child's life. They were like soul mates. Not unless something very terrible happened.
@@eadweard. he said their relatives said she was controlling which is debatable. I don't see how that makes her a liar and he didn't give examples unless I missed it.
The “cretin” was the killer who brutally murdered this family. The “evidence” that Summer was angry or abusive and that she was poisoning her husband was a bunch of hearsay kicked up almost entirely by her killer. Even the fact that she had used other names and kept her age a secret isn’t all that unheard of by people wishing to make fresh starts in life; she could easily have been hiding from a former abuser as opposed to a life of crime. That could have explained the possessiveness she had when it came to her husband- all his family ever acknowledged about her was that she might have been possessive of Joe, not the anger issues. His father even stated he was sure she loved his son. Grande has a penchant for implying blame to women victims for their own deaths, usually due to some stereotype character flaws like jealousy or sneakiness. This wife and mother did not deserve her fate any more than her weak-chinned Mr. Nice-guy husband did. If she was warning Joe not to trust and loan $ to Merritt any more (and who could blame her), the man that was to smash in her children’s heads in with a sledge hammer, that is not what caused them to be killed. A monster like that will find a way sooner or later. The asshole cold-bloodedly slaughtered the family, then stole from, gambled, and slandered the wife’s name before getting finally found out.
Thanks for covering this case, Dr. Grande. I don't know if you heard of it via a comment/request I posted a few weeks ago, or if you discovered it elsewhere, but it made for an excellent presentation. I moved to the McStay's Fallbrook neighborhood about two and a half years after they disappeared, and the San Diego paper continued to provide coverage the whole time I lived there. I agree that the police were overly accepting about the Mexico scenario, but it was believed that Joe had mob connections and may have taken the family out of the country out of fear. When the bodies were found there were even media reports that the killings were "execution style". I lost track of the story after moving to SC in 2017, so I really appreciate hearing how it turned out. Chase was considered a suspicious character the whole time.
That was an awful story. I live in San Diego and I was convinced they had crossed the border into Mexico. They had a video of a family that really looked like it could have been them. So sad. 😔😢
AFAIK they left their dogs as well as food and so forth. Why think they planned to go south, but not these things? Chase is a nut there are other records of his behaviors for some time.
Summer was never portrayed as abusive or controlling in the court case. In all accounts, she was considered strong and opinionated about choosing things for her family. According to extensive testimony and evidence, Joseph went that day to CONFRONT CHASE about forged checks and a call to his bank. Summer didn't even mention the Joseph/Chase meeting during her phone call that day with her sister and another friend coming Saturday to help paint the house. Sadly, Summer was murdered and is now being labeled as controlling and abusive when she is actually a real victim. Otherwise, as always, I love your overviews of case analysis with a dry twist of comedy! Thank you.
That is what I heard. Joseph had mentioned to someone that the quality of Chase's work was substandard and he was considering letting him go. Not sure when Chase started printing off the cheques, but he did owe Joseph a lot of money. I know he printed off a couple of cheques immediately after the family disappeared. I wonder if he had done the research on their computer regarding Mexico?? That would mean he had planned this crime, as it was two weeks before they disappeared. I still think if he had murdered them all in one room, that there would be evidence - painting the walls will not cover all blood splatter - what about the floor. Police have lifted flooring before and found stains in the wooden floorboards.
@@kenn1936 Friends and family said that Summer hated Mexico. She felt Mexico and would take her children there. Chase is believed to have entered the Google searches.
Just wondering how were these derogatory things about Summer discovered, family, friends? I never heard this before, but I didn’t watch any tv shows about this case. Still she did not deserve to be brutally murdered even if she was not a nice person and certainly no reason to brutally murder the whole family. The focus should be on Chase and the fact that he is just an evil person.
@@lynxcatt3845 The evidence was mentioned in the video. It involved their email exchanges, amongst other things, which showed she was aggressive and nasty while he was passive. Acknowledging she was unpleasant isn't remotely close to saying she deserved to be killed. To think so would be moral feeble-mindedness.
Secrets, dishonesty, addiction and money. A combination that was always going to lead inexorably to a bad outcome...and two innocent children paid with their lives. Very sad.
Why didn't the police ever make an effort to investigate Summer's former boyfriend? He clearly had a violent nature and even threatened to kill a 12-yr old girl.
What's sad is that this isn't even that unusual. I've heard numerous other stories of entire families being killed by a trusted friend. There's an episode of "Forensic Files" that's titled "Private Thoughts" which is pretty similar. There's also a couple documentaries about the murders of the Chohan family. Plus, even though their killer is never been found, this is always reminded me of the Jamison family who acted bizarrely on the day they drove off, went missing, their car and near-dead dog was found but they weren't found until later. It's clear they were murdered and it happened around the same time as the McStay family.
Hello Dr. Grande! Another great video. You never disappoint! I have a case suggestion for you ... Susie Mowbray. She was convicted of murdering her husband and served 9 years but was then exonerated. Would love to hear your take!!
I remember this case. I was living in San Diego at the time. So sad for the kids when the adults are so messed up. The kids paid the ultimate price through no fault of their own.
Not only would it have been difficult for Summer to kill herself with a sledge hammer, it would have been impossible for her to bury herself.

Thanks for covering this. I was obsessed with this case until it was solved.
Great analysis 🧐. I can’t even imagine what the McStays went through 😳😔💔. May their souls continue to rest in Paradise 💔.

That was a terrible Summer. Picking a bad partner was one of the worst decisions I have ever made, but this was worse.
I didn't know this case had been solved. Thank you for your speculation Dr Grande.
I remember this when they were still missing, before the bodies were discovered.
Why does the car being at the border mean something terrible had happened?
Forgot about this case for a hot minute, but I remember being disturbed about it when it happened
Wow. I've often thought about this family and wondered where they were. I eventually heard bodies were found in the desert and authorities said it could be the Mcstays. But never heard anything after that. I didn't know they arrested anyone and he was sentenced to death. Thank you Dr. Grande for sharing this information and your thoughts. 🙏 for the family!
I’ve seen several videos on this case, as it unfolded over the years. It is horrific.
Great insight into this case, as always

Love the comment. .I have replied to your questions. 😜❤💙
It seemed like Summer was head of
the household 🌷
His is a subjective opinion, nothing more
What a tragic situation. Good job on the analysis, Dr. Grande.
Just got home from work. Time for some soothing, intellect tickling Dr. Grande ;)
Hindsight bias. They didn't do any forensics cos at that point they didn't know there was a crime.

True. Rarely turns out ok
Grande.
Dr. Grande, you’re such a sweetheart to have your children have input in decorating your backdrop !! 🥰
In every case a disappearance and murder - _you look for who benefits._
When somebody has motive, means, opportunity, a rap sheet, oh, and no alibi...That's your man. You just follow the money.
The police screwed this up beyond repair. All the evidence have been taken care of.
We members of society got lucky - because they're investigation was botched.
I hope this incident is used as a teaching tool today on how not to do police work.
I thought the same thing until they were found dead. I was convinced they fled to Mexico!

It’s sad anyone would murder a whole family for monetary purposes. Thank u Dr. Grande.
Those poor little boys 💔 💔 my heart ❤️
So unfortunate the lengths some people go to to feed an addiction. The commercials interrupted during some key moments so I may have missed it but isn’t it possible that Chase did the computer searches about passports etc. while visiting?! Just to throw off the police into believing they fled?
This case just broke my heart-
When this story broke, I thought what could have happened? Few clues, no leads. No narrative to follow. A real head shaker.

🌻 Xx
Merritt hated Summer with a penchant. I read somewhere that when Summer was unearthed, her pants were on backwards.
Thank you for your analysis, Dr. Grande. Looking forward to hear your take on this case.
I think Doctor Pill did an episode featuring folks close to the family. There were all sorts of wild theories were put forth.
That picture of the couple wearing white on the beach really makes the power dynamic obvious.
You should do one on The Lester Street Murders in Menphis TN. Very very bad and gruesome. 6 Murders all his own family. Was gang related. A kid survived with a knife sticking out of head. A little skewed on the details but he got 6 death sentences plus 120 years.
I remember this tragedy, it wasn't gang related he was just envious of his brother
A brother that was attempting to help him seeing as he was recently released from prison. He felt the family abandoned him during his incarceration. The saddest part was when his mom asked him why did he kill the kids the babies? He whispered "they saw me".
Nothing to do with gangs. The murderer tried to blame murders on gangs. Not true.
This was so tragic, I saw a program on it, "The first 48" I believe. Just HORRIFIC!
I never understood how someone could kill an entire family with a sledgehammer in that house and there was not obvious evidence everywhere. They find minute blood splatter from homicides long ago in places impossible to reach by just cleaning. No one did a luminol test? Very unusual case.
It is unusual & I’m having hard time believing anyone could control four people with a sledgehammer. A gun, sure. But a sledgehammer?
I thought the same thing. Maybe Joseph met him somewhere else, was killed there, then Chase drove Joe's vehicle to the house. Somehow abducted the mother and kids, and killed them elsewhere.
This was explained in the video. By the time they knew it was a crime the house had been redecorated.
@@Jen-X333 He had a hammer. But we have no reason to think he _only_ had a hammer.
@@eadweard. Yes, it was mentioned that a room was repainted, but the police never did any forensic analysis, so who knows. No matter where it was done, this was horrific.

Dr Grande, maybe check out the credentials of Renee Ellory, who has a blog Eyes For Lies. While she no longer provides in depth analyses on cases for her blog, at the time of the Mcstay family disappearance she did. She had some interesting observations.
I had no idea that Joseph had another child. This is a really interesting interpretation of this case. I see you boy!
"I see you boy!"- LOVE THIS!! 😁 Thanks for making me smile!
I remember Joseph's mother said in a documentary that he would never just disappear from his eldest child's life. They were like soul mates. Not unless something very terrible happened.
I'm confused at why Summer is being labeled as dishonest like her killer. That seems to have come out of nowhere. 🤔
He listed a great load of evidence for why she was nasty cretin.
@@eadweard. he said their relatives said she was controlling which is debatable. I don't see how that makes her a liar and he didn't give examples unless I missed it.
@@MelancholyArmy He mentioned their email exchanges, amongst other things, which showed she was aggressive and nasty while he was passive.
@@eadweard. ah OK I see. I had to rewatch. Missed that part
Thank God! Not another Depp/Heard vid!
Great analysis. Thank you.
This is another great video, Dr. Grande, and you made it look so easy! Thanks!
I’m fascinated by this case.
I heard that Chase put the dogs outside on purpose and someone has them now. For all my fellow animal lovers. They are okay
Very sad about the family,I hope they rest in peace😎
That was an awful story. I live in San Diego and I was convinced they had crossed the border into Mexico. They had a video of a family that really looked like it could have been them. So sad. 😔😢
I'm not completely convinced in Chases guilt.
I always enjoy how poetic you get at the end of the videos!
AFAIK they left their dogs as well as food and so forth. Why think they planned to go south, but not these things? Chase is a nut there are other records of his behaviors for some time.
Some people are scarier than the devil.
I love this man and his sarcasm
Her being murdered doesn't mean she wasn't a nasty cretin.
Another great video Doctor 🙏
He didn't answer because he was watching a movie? He couldn't hit Pause??
Secrets, dishonesty, addiction and money. A combination that was always going to lead inexorably to a bad outcome...and two innocent children paid with their lives. Very sad.
Another way they tide him to the crime is he grew up in the area where the bodies were found.
Charles Stark weather/Carol Fugate case in Nebraska. Would love to hear your thoughts.
How sad. Why murder the children?
Exactly!
This show is proof that you will never get away with murder, someone knows the truth.
It's quite common.
@@eadweard. God knows the truth, and so does the murderer and the victim. The killer sealed their fate.
