I am not objective here, I was born and grew up in Sofia, so it is my city. Bucharest was the first city I visited as an adult and it has a special place in my heart. I have been to Bucharest many times since. But you are right, there are plenty of more interesting places around it than the city itself. Also, there are more dingy places in Bucharest than in the walking areas of Sofia, not that there are not some here. Sure, the architecture in Bucharest is better, no second opinion about it, but give Sofia a chance, the city barely made it after WWII. As mentioned, the mountain and the 42 mineral springs of Sofia make it quite an interesting place. The nightlife in Sofia is not in the centre, where it is prohibited for noise. For a restful and chill time, Sofia is better, the temperatures in Bucharest tend to be rougher than here in the summer (hotter) and winter (windier). As was already said, visit them both; it is hard to choose which one is better or the choice depends on your taste.

Bucharest is massive,Sofia a lot smaller and in Bucharest the language is easier to understand (Latin v Cyrillic)
Both are very nice and certainly worth visiting!
P.s. Bucharest has plenty of city centre parks e.g. Izvor,Cismigu,Carol,Unirii etc

Well, actually Sofia is almost twice as big as Bucharest in terms of land area, it's just the population is almost half, which means it's much lower density.

As one who lived for sixty years and still lives in Bucharest I would also say skip it. However, if you visit it then don't do like this guy, he's clearly went only in the old town. Bucharest is very eclectic, it has nice areas, beautiful ones, and lot of ugliness too, Sofia has nice areas but - and this is not local patriotism - is no competition for Bucharest in any aspect except maybe the prices and the mountain proximity.

I feel like the video isn’t doing Bucharest any justice. Bucharest has way better architecture than Sofia. In the video you focus on Sofia’s best while in Bucharest the video focuses on ran down-communist buildings. It was obvious you prefer Sofia.

Architecture? What are you talking about, the Beautiful Bucharest city center that got destroyed to build the biggest building in the world? No Thanks! The only architecture to be found in Bucharest is fake Paris like buildings. While Sofia has its own vibe and maybe also the Roman language makes it even more look like fake Paris and tasteless.

I guess Ignorance is bliss for some people….U are missing so many things from Bucharest,it’s unbelievable, did u ever went in Bucharest….or your info is based on what u heard about Bucharest ,because it’s so hard to believe that u didn’t mention so many things.I bet if u watch some videos made by others u will still get way more info .U mentioned about parks and green spaces, are u kidding,Bucharest is full of parks ,lakes etc…and green spaces in the city not outside or near ,yes in the city ,14-15 of them plus the new ones that are made due to the expansion of the city .There are way to many things to mention about Bucharest, way to many ….. And about the food ,or the biggest interactive fountain in downtown town ,that it is in the Guinness Book ,or the National Theater,Or the biggest Orthodox Church ,or the historic buildings ,oldest restaurants or hotels,The National Opera or The Romanian Athenaeum ,and many other more ,Arc the Triumph a smaller version of the Arc the Triumph in Paris etc. There are so many things left out from Bucharest, way to many .Like I said before, watching videos made by others or doing some research online will get you way more info than the one that u posted pretending to know things about Bucharest.Sorry about that ,but if u do something,at least do it right before posting a video and comparing 2 different cities. Also ,about Sofia u forgot to mention some things to ….very disappointing.

Visit them BOTH! Unlike Bucharest, Sofia's beautiful downtown was never restored from the communist after the heavy Anglo-American bombardments in WW2 also Bulgaria unlike Romania fought since 1912 till 1918 and lost then we had to rebuild a country to deal with refugees we didn't had oil & gas & went smaller than Romania so Romanians got it easy & lucky into the history while Bulgaria still suffers from its own Idiots politicians & the Mafia!
