I am not objective here, I was born and grew up in Sofia, so it is my city. Bucharest was the first city I visited as an adult and it has a special place in my heart. I have been to Bucharest many times since. But you are right, there are plenty of more interesting places around it than the city itself. Also, there are more dingy places in Bucharest than in the walking areas of Sofia, not that there are not some here. Sure, the architecture in Bucharest is better, no second opinion about it, but give Sofia a chance, the city barely made it after WWII. As mentioned, the mountain and the 42 mineral springs of Sofia make it quite an interesting place. The nightlife in Sofia is not in the centre, where it is prohibited for noise. For a restful and chill time, Sofia is better, the temperatures in Bucharest tend to be rougher than here in the summer (hotter) and winter (windier). As was already said, visit them both; it is hard to choose which one is better or the choice depends on your taste.
Bucharest is massive,Sofia a lot smaller and in Bucharest the language is easier to understand (Latin v Cyrillic) Both are very nice and certainly worth visiting! P.s. Bucharest has plenty of city centre parks e.g. Izvor,Cismigu,Carol,Unirii etc
Well, actually Sofia is almost twice as big as Bucharest in terms of land area, it's just the population is almost half, which means it's much lower density.
As one who lived for sixty years and still lives in Bucharest I would also say skip it. However, if you visit it then don't do like this guy, he's clearly went only in the old town. Bucharest is very eclectic, it has nice areas, beautiful ones, and lot of ugliness too, Sofia has nice areas but - and this is not local patriotism - is no competition for Bucharest in any aspect except maybe the prices and the mountain proximity.
Well as a person who is living in Sofia and was in Bucharest too I could say noone of the both worth it :) I preffer places like Plovdiv and I am sure that there are the same places in Romania too. Greetings to our northern neighbour ;)

I feel like the video isn’t doing Bucharest any justice. Bucharest has way better architecture than Sofia. In the video you focus on Sofia’s best while in Bucharest the video focuses on ran down-communist buildings. It was obvious you prefer Sofia.
Architecture? What are you talking about, the Beautiful Bucharest city center that got destroyed to build the biggest building in the world? No Thanks! The only architecture to be found in Bucharest is fake Paris like buildings. While Sofia has its own vibe and maybe also the Roman language makes it even more look like fake Paris and tasteless.
