This band was a fucking wrecking machine when they were young. The black dude from the cannibal corpse documentary wasn't lying when he said suffocation wrecked every band on that line up.
@@deathdrummer7025 Kevin Talley for me, closely followed by Mike and Doug. Too bad Kevin never made an album with them. Dave Culross is tight as fuck, but he's not as creative as Mike Smith and Doug Bohn (Doug really did a tremendous work on Pierced, some of the most unpredictable drumming I've heard), same goes for Eric.
Hands down, I very near cried seeing Mike Smith where he belongs, Hobbs undreaded like antenna man and Frank with fucking hair. Effigy is one fucking epic album.
I was 18 years old and served finnish army in those days. Fuck I was so possessed into this band and still nowadays I love these glorious early days tunes.
@@jimit.4220 I don't know dude. Don't get me wrong, I love suffocation, and all the lineups through the years, killer live band on top of great music. But having said that, they did loose something once Cerrito left. @@hellbach6268 eh agree to disagree I guess. I do suggest you give the self titled another chance tho, I used to think it was just ok, but after a few listens I grew to absolutely adore the album, especially the production, it's so chunky and powerful.
15 years old at the time didn't ever realize how close we all were in age they were all only 5-7 years older. They were and sill are one of the most brutal live acts. Frank and the guys were still practically kids on this one never noticed back in the day how scrawny Frank the tank was in the beginning.
They are definitely top 5 when it comes to brutal traditional death metal. My personal list 1.Atheist 2. death 3. Morbid Angel 4. Cannibal corpse 5. suffocation
Ryan Lano This was my first metal fest. It was in a place called The Mecca Arena. The years following it were in the rave, but the years before this one we’re also at the rave. I only lasted two songs in the pit because it was a circle pit and was fucking exhausting! I was in pretty good shape at the time too!
The braids didn't start really coming in till the mid-later 90s. He usually wore a baseball cap backwards so it might have been hard to tell back then.
Incredible lineup. Absolute all stars around the board. Doug Cerrito and Frank Mullen are total influences of mine however we all know Suffo wouldn’t be shit without HOBBS.
Frank Mullen was so ahead of his time. Even today there are very few vocalists that can get even remotely close to as low as him. Insane band, even though the lineup is wildly different I’ll need to see them eventually.
Imagine going to their show, and not knowing what to expect. Must've been mind blowing. These guys literally sound as if they had a time machine to the future. I also bet they were every sound engineers nightmare back when this kind of music was unheard of haha
This was also before drum triggers became mandatory for death metal as well--Mike is beating that snare like it owes him money, if you look closely. Drums that sounded like, you know, DRUMS back then was the norm.
I saw suffo and there was no gay karate, just brutal chaotic bone breaking fukn old school slam moshing. No way any of those core pussies could handle it, they don’t like actually getting hit they just like hitting air and occasionally sucker punching someone who isn’t in the pit. Total pussies they dodge anyone who’s actually getting rowdy and rough in there, I would know lol
I was a sperm and egg during this show 😂
This band was a fucking wrecking machine when they were young. The black dude from the cannibal corpse documentary wasn't lying when he said suffocation wrecked every band on that line up.
Yeah definitely. Suffocation, Immolation and Incantation were at the top of their game back then.

Mike Smith is an insane drummer. Wish there were more shots of him in the video
I think so. My opinion is that M. Smith is the best drummer of "Suffocation!" I'm sorry that I couldn't watch him at their live in Japan, 2019!

More importantly, Doug Cerrito on guitar. Suffocation, while still pretty good, has never been the same without him.
@@jerrycampbell5010 yeah, MOST importantly. that guy was the fucking riff wizard
Wow, Cannibal Corpse with Barnes, and the OG suffocation line up played at this show. Miss those days man.
was in the front row. as soon as the first chords hit, all fucking hell broke loose on the floor. it was...intense to say the least.
3:09 That Circle Pit tho.......🤘🏻
I like how they are playing Talking Heads on the PA and then go straight into the most brutal shit ever 😂

Legendary lineup, legendary time in death metal.
that circle pit looks literally dangerous...kudos to the crowd for responding appropriately
As it fukn should be!!
Exactly.
God damn. I wish death metal shoes still pulled in crowds like this.
Better lace them "shoes" up before ya get in the pit 🤘🤓🤘
my favorite suffocation line up.

One of the most important bands in our scene.🤘
Suffocation at their most brutal selves 🔥🔥🔥
SUFFOCATION my favorite band since 1992 !!!!!
that echo is such a gem on these vocals. when i heard this the first time i was on shock. it was to good :)
Frank’s voice was amazing during this era
THE MOST EXTREME SONG EVER !!!
They are the ABSOLUTE MASTERS OF BRUTAL DEATH METAL. Period. Hail Suffocation!!!
On this I agree. Suffocation produced Effigy of the forgotten. The heaviest album I've ever heard to this day.

How did Terrance keep his 👓's on back in the day?!!! Classick!!! 💀 😀 😎 👍
legendary concert, the Birth of modern metal
What? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I had no clue Terrence Hobbs had short hair back in the day.
Michael Pritchett and Frank was skinny as fuck.
And Frank had Hair, lol
Smarten up

Short hair when you have hair, long when you start losing it, thats the way to do it. Unironically though his skullet looks badass
Ah yes i remember this show.
En esos años habia muchisimas bandas de death metal que ahora son legendarias gracias al tiempo que nos permitio vivir esos momentos.
