This song symbolizes the time after the ashes of a brutal war. Hong Kong is finally independent, but a former husk of its former self. No longer is it a wealthy hub filled with riches and trade, but it is a ruined nation, the remains of a once-global beacon of freedom at the doorstep of an oppressive dictatorship, torn apart by conflict into a free, but impoverished sovereign state. Now, the streets are piled in rubble from once standing skyscrapers. Ports and great ships from around the planet, sunken into the sea by bombings. Clear waters now filled with blood and wreckage. Great structures reduced to nothing but debris.
Hong Kong has its freedom at last, but at what cost? At the cost of life? At the cost of your region's very identity?
Let us choose peace instead if freedom is worth fighting for. Let us not let this fate happen. History may not repeat, but we shouldn't let it rhyme.
