Hahaha I know pal, but nobody like it, because Guillermo del Toro has some good ideas and the studio don't let him do it, because of this he leave the movie and we all know what happened
@@ygkemosabi8280 this. Say it louder for the boys at the back. They used the sword on Otachi in Hong Kong. The next battle, Raiju immediately rips Gipsy's arm off to prevent them from using the sword as soon as the battle began. If they had not used the sword in Hong Kong, it might have come as a surprise in the Breach Battle, and Scunner and Raiju might have been taken out before Slattern even showed up.
Ima add this regarding Jaager ejects: Crimson Typhoon got its Conn pod ripped off before its pilots got a chance to eject. Cherno Alpha's torso mounted Conn pod prevents its pilots from ejecting (in typical Russian style). They either go home victorious or not at all. Striker Eureka's release mechanism for the bomb was damaged, so the pilots had to manually detonate the bombs. Not that it would have mattered with two active Kaijus in the area, and the blast radius of said bomb anyways. Gipsy's pilots only survived because the explosion closed the Breach behind them, preventing the blast from coming through.
I mean the actual answer is because he simply didn't know about it, and it didn't exist until after the retrofit. Mako knew about it because she was present the whole time, Raleigh had zero info on Gypsy's upgrades.
The scene of younger Mako crying and running in terror clutching her little red shoe was absolutely heartbreaking, so seeing her being saved and Stacker looking so heroic and godlike emerging from his Jaeger (and on a big screen too) was an incredibly emotional moment in the theater.
2 things to note: 1: Sword wasn't used earlier to prevent the spread of too much kaiju blood 2: The Category 5's initial hit destroyed Striker's eject function, even though the original plan was to eject.
Stacker actually adopted Mako. He adopted her after he was forced to stop piloting. That time when he rescued her, he was piloting solo because his copilot was knocked out. The strain of it and exposure to the kaiju's radiation left them with cancer and he was told if he tried to pilot again he would die. So he went into teaching new pilots and eventually heading the Jaeger program where Mako eventually joined him when she got older.
If I remember correctly it was actually the radiation from his jeager, not the kaiju since they were just toxic and acidic as far as I recall(probably had some radiation but so do most things, probably not enough to cause rad poisoning). The jeagers of the Mk.I, II, III, and early mk.IV generations all used nuclear reactors(I can't remember if the switch to electrical happened during mk.IV or started at mk.V) and the mk.I were rolled out in only 14 months and skipped the rad shielding for the sake of manfacturing time. Later mk.I and onward would have the shielding but for someone like Pentacost who was an early gen pilot it was too late. He only survived as long as he did because a medical check eventually caught how bad his radiation poisoning was and they stopped him from piloting along with medication to help with the symptoms.
Mana Ashida, the little Japanese actress who played young Mako in the flashback scenes, had difficulty pronouncing Guillermo del Toro's name, so he let her call him "Totoro-san" after the big, friendly, fuzzy creature in "My Neighbor Totoro." I thought that was adorable.
According to the movie novelization, all jaegers have an emergency function called the Crisis Command Matrix, which transfers all jaeger functions to a single pilot if the other pilot is incapacitated. However, this is essentially suicide. However, over the course of the war, a few pilots managed to pilot a jaeger solo and survive.
People use the “canceling the apocalypse” speech is used in classes today from what I have heard. Notice the kaiju were far more like earth animals after he drifted with it. They knew more about the planet from his brain. Thanks for the awesome reaction and all the work that goes into editing and filming it.
Actually, most of the initial Kaijus, like Onibaba, were based on human animals too. The reason why was on a canceled script for the sequel, an idea Del Toro pirched before he handed off the reins. The Precursors were supposed to be evolved humans all along.
I just saw a theory that the 2 Hong Kong Kaijus were designed to destroy the 3 jaegers other than Gipsy because Charlie Day was more familiar with those and the aliens had access to his mind during the drift.
@@jamesbernald2850otachi was created to destroy cherno alpha with acid and rip off crimson typhoon conn pod with her tail, letherback used EMP attack to disable striker eureka. they didn't have chances against gipsy danger because for them gipsy danger was destroyed when knifehead attacked
@@jamesbernald2850 that's not really a theory. Its very obvious because the kaiju are obviously designed to take the 3 of them down. An emp for Crimson Typhoon and Striker Eureka, and acid for Cherno Alpha.
Saw this movie 3 times in imax. One of the most visceral experiences I’ve ever had in a theater. What makes this stand apart from so many giant monster movies is Del Toro absolutely nailed the sense of scale and the mass that goes along with it. Mass increases on a different scale to size, so the bigger these things are the heavier they are by an order of magnitude and these things are MASSIVE and move like they have huge mass. Big things have insane amounts of inertia so they cannot accelerate quickly even if they are capable of moving quite fast, ad this is one of those films that takes that into account so well. Too many do human shaped things scaled up, but they still move at the same scale as a human sized object and it always just looks… off. One thing in regards to blades. Kaiju blood causes immense environmental damage and is toxic as hell, so they do everything they can to try and mitigate bleeding from the kaiju when they’re fighting them. That means canonically blunt force and weapons that staunch blood flow as much as possible like plasma/laser weapons (cauterizes wounds) electricity (shuts down nervous systems without bleeding) or cryoweaponry (freezes). I can’t recall what striker’s missiles were off the top of my head, but I believe their high explosive capability plus heat vaporized blood. Bladed and piercing weapons, then, would be reserved for areas where there would be less environmental impact (ie not in populated areas) or as a defense of last resort. Also, Gypsy wasn’t originally swiped with the chain sword, it’s something that Mako added in the restoration project, so Raleigh didn’t know about it and since he was primarily directing the fight it wasn’t until he asked for more options that Mako (who is on her first mission and following Raleigh’s lead) even thought to bring it up. They hadn’t even had time to give Raleigh a briefing on any new capabilities Gypsy had been upgraded with, much less time to practice with, so as much as people like to call this whole thing a plot hole, I think the movie does a decent job of explaining it’s use without coming right out and saying it. Just gotta look for subtext, and there’s a perfectly good reason for it. :p
To clear something up, the reasons the jaegers don’t use bladed weaponry often is because of the Kaiju blood. In the begining of the movie it was stated that kaiju blood was very toxic and could cause severe harm to humans. Blades would cause the blood to spread all over an area. When gypsy was in the air with otachi, their blade was their only option and they decided to use it as they were no where near any civilians. This is much like how Crimson typhoon used his saw blades against otachi earlier as they were in the middle of the ocean away from civilians. Hope this helps!
35:46 The blood's toxic. That's why they mostly use blunt damage or the plasma weapons. Blunt damage doesn't make them bleed that much and the plasma weapons burn away any blood that gets flown off. If they use blades in the water like that it would make the entire area unlivable for humans and sea creatures. And the only reason why they use that blade in the skies because it would burn up hitting the atmosphere and ask for at the end well it was the best choice at that time because the main thing was getting that bomb in the breach so not only will getting the bomb in the breach matter more than getting some blood in the ocean the new probably also vaporized any blood that was in the water when it went off so there's a lot of reasons for everything
also any jaegers who did have blades like crimson and striker the blades have tubes in them that transfer thermal energy to the blades super heating them so it cauterizes the wound so no blood i believe some were cryo cooled as well
5:35 Funny story, I was at comiccon in San Diego and there was an artist, if I can find his business card again I'll share it here, that actually did do a really cool Godzilla/Pacific Rim crossover where it was a team of Jaegers about to face down Godzilla. I purchased the print because I always wondered about what it would be like if Godzilla took on the Jaegers.
Rewatched this recently and I forgot how much I loved the dynamic between Raleigh and Mako. Drift compatibility is such a brilliant concept my writer brain is kind of mad I didn't come up with it lol. It's one of my favorite fictional "soulmate" concepts and I love that it's able to encompass a wide variety of relationships, from familial to friendly to romantic. For a movie that was the cinematic equivalent of a kid smashing action figures together, PR had a surprising amount of emotional depth, but that's to be expected from Guillermo del Toro. He's such a great storyteller no matter the genre
I watched this for the first time d box imax and till this day it was the most absolute best movie experience ive had. I would pay ungoldy amounts of money to relive that moment.
When seeing this film when it was released, later some directors announced that they had the rights for "Mobile Suit Gundam", Taika Waititi with "Akira" or even Leonardo Di Caprio and "Evangelion" but filmed like Pacific Rim. 😱🤯🤯 PS: "MP3" hahaha, that's also why we love seeing Jen in the reactions or Rita to keep the show alive. 😁😆🤭
Instead of using weapons, blunt force is used much more often when fighting Kaiju because their blood is toxic, they want to prevent too much from being spread during battle
As someone else mentioned, Striker's ejection mechanisms were damaged by Slattern (the big Category 5 kaiju), so they had to blow the nuke as a last resort to buy time for Gipsy Danger. As for Crimson (3 armed red one), Otachi's tail was too quick so they couldn't, and Cherno wasn't built with an ejection mechanism (so they either kill the kaiju or die trying).
Ejecting by idris wouldn't have save them as the pods would've been incinerated gypsy danger was on the other side of the rift so could initiate a blast and retreat back through the void
I cannot believed I watched this movie 4 times at the Cinema…The Experience just Mind Blowing for me….Its Definitely a Theatre type Movie Sound effects and everything 🤘🤘🤘
35:16 - The novelization clarifies that, unfortunately, they do not actually have the ability to eject. Cherno was designed in such a way that an ejection system wouldn't be possible, but compensated by being an absolute unit. The Conn-Pod (where the pilots are) is actually located near the "chest area" of the Jaeger, instead of the head. The big cylinder at the top is just a heavily armored housing for Cherno's reactor.
Okay, the Power Rangers throwback was hilariously perfect. Here's Jane screaming like Rita Repulsa one minute and the next she's all "quiet, the children.". Great fun from the two of you on this reaction.
Hi Justin & Jane!😊 You can definitely see director Guillermo del Toro's influence here with the Kaiju from his "Hellboy" days. Critics were critical of the sequel "Pacific Rim: Uprising" (2018), but I do think it has some interesting things to offer. del Toro did not return to write or direct the sequel. @Justin -- Was it "Neon Genesis Evangelion" you were thinking of? Also, "Real Steel" is another one that slipped under the radar when it was in theatres...a real heartwarmer.
It's not that they didn't have the choice to eject. Ejecting would not have helped in Stacker's case. With a bomb big enough to literally clear miles of an air pocket under water, even if they had ejected, they probably would have died just by the sheer force of the bomb. You're also forgetting that it had to be manually set off as all their systems were down or malfunctioning AND they were being attacked at the same time. Trying to save yourself in a position like that when there's no guarantee you'll survive isn't plausible. They had nowhere to run anyway with three kaiju swimming around and ejecting and leaving the bomb and the other two pilots behind could never be an option so instead of letting the kaiju take them out, might as well 'clear the way' as he said.
I love the detail that after Newt drifts with the kiju brain, the monsters start looking different. Before, they were all based on sea creatures. Sharks, crabs, etc. After the drift, because the creators can now see into Newt's brain and use his knowledge, they start looking like land animals. Bats, gorillas, lizards, etc. The like you said, they know our plan and know that all of the active jagers are electric. That's why Leatherback has the ability to create EMP blasts. Newt is drifting while G. Danger is being tested so he doesn't know that she works. The creators don't have a way to directly take her out like they did the remainder of the fleet, and honestly don't know that she is even operational.
Also, the reason why they no longer build Jaegers is because those big robots consume a lot of resources, time and manpower, aka, *they're freaking expensive* ; which only go to the scrapyard because of they're easily get taken down by newer category 3 and 4 kaijus. But after the breach collapsed and the war is over, they were somehow able to produce some newer robots at a slow but steady pace
i can be wrong 54:40 but the reason the son(assuming you are talking about the guy whos father has broken shoulder) didn't ejject through the jeager is probably because of the amount of time it would taken for him to eject and would probably gotten caught in the explosion or the detonation of the jeager would probably be put on hold due to the pilot ejecting or something
I agree but its actually because the eject system was damaged by one of the hits they took earlier in the fight, the novelization goes more in depth to it
I'm a power plant operator who has worked in both conventional and nuclear plants, so the amount of sheer non-understanding of machines in this movie is hilarious.

Fun fact about the little girl that played Young Mako in the flashback. She had difficulties pronouncing Director Guillermo Del Toro's name on set. So he gave her exclusive permission to refer to him as Guillermo Del "To-torro"-san. That's right, Totorro the forest spirit from My Neighbor Totorro from Studio Ghibli.
This was so good but it never became great . Loved it nonetheless. Kaijus and robots fighting with real enthusiasm and great cgi for that time so yeah perfect entertainment 😂❤

This movie kinda showcase what could we have achieved by now if the entire world worked together, wasn't conflict and shared their resources between each other.
I've always maintained... if the US and Russia didn't have the cold war with each other, and instead were friendly countries to each other, we'd have mars fully colonized today
They probably couldn’t just pump those yagers out on a conveyor belt, because just imagine how expensive building even one of them is. That would be impossibly expensive, they just simply couldn’t afford to make them like that
a fantastic movie, full of emotions, adrenaline and special effects that to this day are still better than those of marvel, PITY THERE WAS NEVER A SECOND PART. :)
Earlier they already said the monsters coming out quicker then they can build them and reason why they stop funding them due to they weren't winning as before
You saw him getting eaten by the Kaiju a mile away I saw that happened the moment the guy showed his face why because it's Ron Pearlman he always dies in films and TV

Also, the reason why they no longer build Jaegers is because those big robots consume a lot of resources, time and manpower, aka, *they're freaking expensive* ; which only go to the scrapyard because of they're easily get taken down by newer category 3 and 4 kaijus. But after the breach collapsed and the war is over, they were somehow able to produce some newer robots at a slow but steady pace
playing Into The Breach, to the theme of this movie.
I mean, how much more badass can that get?
i can be wrong 54:40 but the reason the son(assuming you are talking about the guy whos father has broken shoulder) didn't ejject through the jeager is probably because of the amount of time it would taken for him to eject and would probably gotten caught in the explosion or the detonation of the jeager would probably be put on hold due to the pilot ejecting or something
I agree but its actually because the eject system was damaged by one of the hits they took earlier in the fight, the novelization goes more in depth to it
@@bobrik399 oh my god you are right I forgot about that it's been long since I saw that movie
Best movie of kaiju and mech ever
I'm a power plant operator who has worked in both conventional and nuclear plants, so the amount of sheer non-understanding of machines in this movie is hilarious.
Y'all didn't show them suiting up. That's like, *the ritual of every pacific rim fan to watch*
Not to mention the docking and starting sequence of the Jaeger
Seeing movies like this and TRANSFORMERS, makes me wonder why we’ve yet to see a live action VOLTRON or ROBOTECH
Great and very underrated movie.
hey guys hope you have a wonderful day, thanks for anotha dope reaction, also i hope you feel better soon Jane😷much love from ATL, i hate being sick 🤒
I think we all know that JV and Jane are drift compatible but only if they were piloting a toaster... or a small vacuum. Or a doorbell..
This movie was really good.
This was so good but it never became great . Loved it nonetheless. Kaijus and robots fighting with real enthusiasm and great cgi for that time so yeah perfect entertainment 😂❤
Grandma was the second one and I lost a lot of money to play each other by watching the movie cause I Know You both are parents But I do enjoy when you cry and laugh together😢😅❤❤
Absolutely incredible I have always been a fan of giant robots from R2D2 to Gundam's to MechaGodzilla
Great reaction
Code Geass is amazing if you havent seen it. Got mechs and superpowers and amazing dubbed cast!
40:25 boat sword!
This movie kinda showcase what could we have achieved by now if the entire world worked together, wasn't conflict and shared their resources between each other.
I've always maintained...
if the US and Russia didn't have the cold war with each other, and instead were friendly countries to each other, we'd have mars fully colonized today
@@redmoonbloodmoon3161 Mars isn't able to sustain life. Living there would be impossible, but I see what you mean.
@redmoonbloodmoon3161 the cold war is what literally started the space race 😂
They probably couldn’t just pump those yagers out on a conveyor belt, because just imagine how expensive building even one of them is. That would be impossibly expensive, they just simply couldn’t afford to make them like that
Good movie .
a fantastic movie, full of emotions, adrenaline and special effects that to this day are still better than those of marvel, PITY THERE WAS NEVER A SECOND PART. :)
30:36 OMG jane needs to be stopped ppfftt
You should definitely do some Godzilla reactions
Awesome reaction of my favorite superhero movie!!!!😊😊😊😊
It's not a superhero movie.
@@rossohare4950 - I mean, it's kind of a superhero movie if you think about it. :P
MP3 got me dying :v
but still, love ur content guys.
Earlier they already said the monsters coming out quicker then they can build them and reason why they stop funding them due to they weren't winning as before
grew up watching it and love it but the second one is like just okay but not as good as the first
You two guys are having too much fun watching this movie...👍
You saw him getting eaten by the Kaiju a mile away I saw that happened the moment the guy showed his face why because it's Ron Pearlman he always dies in films and TV
This where I would make a jeager but with Kevin McAllister to pilot it. Lots of trap for these home invaders. We get the W.
Bravo.
Watched this in the theatre it was something totally different
I’m not happy about the fact that I am a 53 year old man and when I see something in a movie that’s especially tense the first thing that pops into my head is… “OH, JUSTIN” 😐
6:15, GOBLIN SHARK.
Honest trailer sum up this movie the best "It's either the most awesome dumb movie ever made, or the dumbest awesome movie ever made". for me personally this movie still hold the record for number of time i saw a movie in theatre, 7 times in one week. and numerous rewatching years later in DVD or streaming. perfect movie for the manchild in me.
33:42, you two have too much fun doing these. It's good to see a couple enjoy one another.
Hell boy!
Awesome 😎
Im glad they didnt make a sequel to this movie…..
Voltron would go through those Kaiju like a Hot Knife through butter!
You guys having too much fun with all the superhero type characters!! You lost me with the fast and furious crew though, lol! Might I suggest Ultraman instead? 😂
plz watch the pacific rim uprising
I really love this movie, it was one I wanted on dvd as soon as it came out. I love the genre, the world effort of coming together. The relationships/connections between pairings❤ love it❤
Also to me this movie does not need a sequel. They ended it al and the sacrifes made are so much more powerful because of it. A prequel yes, but no more after this. The world in my mind is in peace.
Happy New Year, you two! ❤🎉
Yo HellBoy is a personal fave.
The team lead that went in the Bat Kaiju was Del Toro
For those wondering the height of a jeager. They are all around 300 feet or taller.
sadly there’s no sequel to react to but I feel like it would only be natural to start a Evangelion reaction after this. >.>
You need to look for post and mid credit scenes. You are missing some good parts of the movie that makes parts of the next in the series make sense.
Pills? Radiation poisoning
This movie is amazing!
WAIT!!! YOU MISSED THE POST-CREDIT SCENE!
and there is a sequel
Hey guys, luv the channel...such a great movie...saw in cinema way back...sequel is crap so dont watch..this is so good..so much fun
GO GO POWER RANGERS!!!! HAHAHA
You guys are so cute!
Please watch the Godzilla monsterverse movies
It’s too bad they didn’t finish the movie!
exactly if they can eject why didn't idris do it, im glad you point that out haha.
