We all complain about stuff breaking on our WJs ZJs and XJs, but rarely consider that they are 20-30 year old vehicles. They are doing pretty good for their age!
Appreciate this video. Alarm been going off between 2 and 4am and I bet the apartment neighbors don't like it. The part I ordered cost $48.05 on E-Bay.
Even still your videos are really helpful! I ended up just spraying my sensor with wd40 and pressing it with a screwdriver a bunch of times to loosen it up. Worked for now hopefully it holds!
I have the same probs as you but my battery goes dead after a few days .. I will order this switch as needed for a long time now .. Thank you for the great videos.. 1998 grand limited 318 motor …
Awesome video! Definitely pushing me forward on finishing my zj project but it just got cold here in PA so I am dreading crawling underneath my zj to reinstall my tcase.
Yes hi Jen I bought speakers off of you I'm just curious my airbag light is on in my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee I'm curious of how to maybe get it all cuz I need my inspection in September
I love that magnetic hand!! What a fun addition to the toolbox! “Need a hand!?” 😂😂 I’m such a dork 😆 Great video Dan! Hope your wrist is getting better! ❤️🐞
Project Dan H - I’m trying to think of other corny jokes but I can only think of the one from Pulp Fiction- “ketchup” 🤦♀️ I was Uma Thurman from Pulp Fiction for Halloween one year. Ah, good times 🤣🎃
Yea brother, it actually helped me locate the issue! you need to put load resistors on your harness near your led bulbs so your jeep thinks the normal bulbs are still there!
Excellent video! I have an '06 Grand Cherokee. When the brake is applied, the hazards flash and the rear hatch window opens. The brake lights are working properly. Have you ever heard from this issue?
You may have a couple wires melted together, or maybe a screw was put through some wires by accident. take the interior apart and start Tracing your brake light wires.
I’ve never had this problem but maybe one time but the hatch was semi open. But my problem is I have no inside running lights, dash lights, dome or nothing. I do if I manually push the roof light controls but that’s it. My rear doesn’t work at all. Suggestions?
I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited but my rear glass is fixed and doesn't open. I was wondering is it possible for me to one replace the entire trunk door and have things work properly if I replaced the back key plug? I was also wondering if my zJ would have the correct wiring to be able to use the key fob and still lock the back? Any information would be helpful thanks.
Great video Dan! I am helping my in-laws with this exact problem. Is there a way to bypass this switch until I get the part. I am 99% sure this issue is running their battery down. Thank you for your help!! JW
I took it apart and put a small nail ln it, so the head has to stay the middle. It stays in place I cut the shaft, so it was 1/4" long.. But some grease on it.
My lift glass doesnt work because the micro switch that allows power to the actuater only when the doors are unlocked is bad, can't find a replacement, i took it apart and replaced a smaller micro switch that is inside that switch and tested it with my meter and it tests good but now im too lazy to reinstall it....
Have you got a good resource for parts? I have a 1998 Laredo that needs a Lift Glass Solenoid. I can actuate it once, then it won't. Wait awhile and do it again. I took it apart and it has a capacitor and diode taped to the coil inside.Too small for me to try and fix. I'm sure I'll have to replace the whole latch mechanism. Can't find one anywhere.
Project I've really REALLY tried but I can't find that same part for my 97' GC Laredo, it's a 3 Prong & I've checked everywhere & can't find it! can you plzzzz help me find the part my interior dome lights are flickering just the same as yours did..It would be a big help!
I’m having an issue where the window on the trunk won’t shut fully. It keeps flying open when I drive since it doesn’t click in fully. Any ideas on why it won’t shut fully? Love your videos thanks for the help in advance.
Hey man your videos and this one especially are fantastic! I know this video itself is 5 years old and it seems the link to the part doesn't exactly work, but is there another place I could find the liftgate switch? I keep striking out with the part as I think its exactly what the problem is with my ZJ. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
@@zaf5273to do it how I would , I'm pretty sure you can grab a factory wire harness from a junk yard and plug it into the junction box. You can even utilized factory memory seats and heated seats from a limited. There is some good info out there on the forums. Power seats are really just 2 wires battery and ground so you can pretty much take power right from the battery. If you run it yourself use a fuse and relay. Start your Google search! Lol
Hey man I have the exact same issue as you in this video. I have the switch pulled already. The glass door button works fine. But I have no way of knowing if the sensor/switch inside the interior panel is good or not. Can you or I exchange emails or Facebooks so I can send you a video of that switch and get your input on it? Thank you it would mean a lot
My 98 ZJ was kind enough to wake me up at 2am a couple times to the alarm randomly going off, and from previous experience I know the alarms on these are useless unless you open the rear hatch without unlocking the rest of the jeep first, or you close the hood after you have locked the doors so I knew it had nothing to do with someone breaking into it. I played with the doors like you initially thought, nope it was that rear flipper glass switch...mine is still disconnected a year later, don't really care about that stupid switch, although I do now wonder if it also disables the rear defrost as the rear defrost doesn't work now. I haven't done the VIC mod yet, probably this spring, too many other things in the way right now LOL. Looks like that switch is about $40-60...I bet with mine unplugged if I did have the VIC I'd always get that warning...I thought when I got my current ZJ with that flipper glass I'd use it but I don't, its just more of a PITA on stupid additional sensors and switches to fail LOL. Also seems like I've got a few burned out instrument panel and switch lights. My heated seats lights don't light up, the front side of my speedometer is dark, as is the temperature controls for the HVAC. I also found out that the bulbs that illuminate the back wheels in the vehicle display are burned out too they're supposed to be illuminated all the time, so I got a few things to work on this spring, but the bulbs that illuminate the back wheels I could care less sense I'll be doing the VIC swap in the future. May find other hidden issues after that's installed that I don't know about LOL. Ahh the fun of owning a ZJ. Although I have to say I don't mind, this is my 2nd one I'd rather drive a ZJ than the new stuff they got...wouldn't mind a WJ at some point, and would love to get my hands on an old 80's AMC Eagle 4x4.
This ZJ was definitely an adventure and a great learning experience. There were so many systems that were inoperative but it had good bones. I'm really glad I did the restoration!
@@ProjectDanH Mine is in great condition just a few little quirks to take care of but for a vehicle that's approaching 30 years old, I can't complain. 159k on the odometer, and sounds like it may need an engine unfortunately :(.
I need help with my 98 jeep grand cherokee limited 5.2l....im missing a part or regulator for being able to switch the ac from cold to hot..it should be located under the cooler master on right side of engine facing jeep.....If anyone knows what I'm talking about or the part number, can someone please tell me.
I believe what you are talking about is called the "mode actuator". It's located on the passenger side of the transmission tunnel secured to the heater core box by 3 Hard to reach screws. Once you remove it, open it up. Usually what happens is the plastic gears get brittle and crack apart. Sometimes you can epoxy them back together. Most times you will need to find a new mode actuator. best of luck.
@@ProjectDanH dosnt that control like where the air flows to like the vents...because my ac works it blows through all vents ice cold and so....but I just can't get warm...I can get warm if I move a part but I won't get cold so its like I have to keep switching them back on forth cause a part I'm missing....
