🇰🇭In 1975 the Khmer Rouge rolled in to Phnom Penh to begin four years of brutal oppression in Cambodia. Although there were eventually defeated by the Vietnamese in 1979, Pol Pot and his army never went away completely. Hanging on in a northern village until the 1990s. I went to investigate and meet their descendants.
Don't forget to check @BackpackerBen channel for his version of the trip.

Cambodia Nice! Following you since 2019, great videos Bald!
To find out that I have negligible or non-existent Ashkenazi ancestry? Yeah, no thanks.
Hi m8, come to Australia? My friend David Willson was murdered by the Khmer Rouge when he was kidnapped from a train along with a French and an American.
@@Charlie-phlezk why comment here out of all ? And why Lebanon? Terror state
Afternoon Bald! I'd recommend getting chatGPT, Claude or another app for use with translation, you can just record what they say and it'll output it in your language.
I'm sure there are better ones but that's what i've used
I met a man whose family was slaughtered by the Khmer Rouge. I was speechless as he told me how people were slaughtered like animals. His parents were peasants and were not political. Somehow he escaped and wound up in the US where he opened a doughnut shop.
A lot of Cambodian folks live in the states because of what happened with the communist regime
@@zoewtang the US literally funded the Khmer Rouge, look up Jack Colhoun's work
Is the doughnut shop still open ?
@@zoewtang the vietcong liberated them from the khmer rouge in 2 weeks.

Cambodia is such an amazing country with the kindest people! ❤
Agreed!❤ Cambodia -Fro। Nepal
Thank you bald and Ben, I probably never would have thought Cambodia is such a nice place if it weren’t for you.
Showing the history and culture while having a blast and filming it for us. Great work and please keep uploading
It's generally not. Idk what part of a terrorist group being in power makes you think its peaceful.
Never thought I'd see Bald's Pink Helmet, but here we are.
Hes schmuckless so easier to access I guess 😂

Thank you Ben, for taking us & showing us to all these places with you for all these years, it's been absolutely great.💯❤️
Hammond would be proud of that helmet.

Seeing that room and those pictures, absolutely heartbreaking.
Being there is something else
Impressive skills to edit out Backpacker Ben until the train scene
That’s funny… not sure where Backpack Ben could be or why he wouldn’t be tagging along to see Pol Pot house
Should've edit him out of the whole video.
Wish he would edit him out the whole video! 🤣

BRUTAL: How could you survive with only beautiful polite people, nice buildings, no people touching and scamming you, no car horns at all times and no poop-ologists dumping in the streets.
Cambodia is officially nicer than India 😂
Of course. Only bangladesh and Pakistan are less nicer than India
India is not really the standard of a nice, clean and safe country.
Saying it like it's an accomplished 😂 India is rock bottom, you can only go up from there, as a traveler
@@mustacheBpf lol
That's a disrespect to Cambodia to even compare it with India!
I second that part about how clean Cambodia is, Honestly despite the lack of english speakers compared to Indias capital, I'd much prefer to visit Cambodia.
beautiful to see!
Fun fact they speak more french than english overthere
This video just sets India in such a bad light, it's amazing. They are both countries in development, but Cambodia is clean, organized, even when you see their stuff is old, like their trains, they are still clean and well maintained. They follow traffic laws, plus, their nature is great. India needs a complete turnaround to get their shit together.
It's not clean but it's much cleaner than Vietnam and India. The main difference is a result of the others having way too many people.
My neighbor was Dith Pran who escaped from Cambodia. They made that movie The Killing Fields about him. Great man.
This makes me happy, a new B&B video I get to watch once I wake up. ☺️✈️ 🧳
Please stay safe, Mr. Bald! 🪽
Despite it's horrible past - what a nice clean country Cambodia is!!!!
Nice to see they care about their country, and have not turned it onto a rubbish dump (like another country that Bald has visited recently!!)
Safe travels!!!
it isnt that clean, i ve been there for three weeks and everywhere someone is burning trash...
😂Cleaner than India tho much much cleaner
That’s high point of having riveting content… You can be gone for months and pick up right where you left off without skipping a beat… Welcome back 🎉
6:00 Ganz Berg Beer is German Premium Beer, that nobody knows in Germany, but it is made by a german brewmaster in Cambodia and is popular among the locals
I told my Khmer friends this fact and they laughed their asses off.
And it’s awful! Cambodia > Angkor > Anchor > Ganzberg!
In Thailand there was also a german named beer from 'Kloster-Brauerei' which was only available there. The Thai called it 'Klotaeh' It wasn't bad, but disappeared in 2015 or so
Cambodia was always one of my favourite countries during my travels. The people were lovely despite the relatively recent tragedies.
bald back to his very best, amazing content bruh
"they appear to be extremely happy and not at all bitter about the past, unlike it has to be said in other parts of the world where there are whole groups that still collectively blame their current problems on events that happened 200 years ago"
As an American, my mind immediately zeroed in on one such group...
No I think they blame the current structures reinforcing their oppression. But that doesn't make for a snappy comment on an unrelated video. Your racism is showing and you're proud of it.
@@sn1000k Leave it, quite ironically, to the exact caricatures of what was described here to blame their problems on the best country to be black in. But sure, it's "racism" that is responsible for your issues.
@@sn1000k Right, because reparations are required for "current structures." And in a nation where you can openly be racist and promote segregation towards whites, you act like the system is holding you down. No, OP is spot on with their assessment.

The way those children holded their hand to show gratitude , this is what etiquette looks like. I've no clue about Bald's intentions to denigrate India but he just showed you the Indian in present. You can despise him as much as u want or can start rejuvenating India and Indian's behavior. We got a lot to improve in India.I bet say, Bald is an intellectual person. He might have passed some withering comments however he posses acerbic wit, He is a gentleman.
we learnt that etiquette from the ancient indians. sad to see modern indians no longer continue the legacy of their ancestors but instead the tradition is carried on by the cambodians
1:32 bald spewing historical knowledge on a moped in a pink helmet is way funnier then it should be

Hi Bald..I'm a Cambodian descendent who was borne and lived in Malaysia my whole life..
I'm always been fascinated with my parents country of origins history (Cambodia) and have been studying its history especially on abt the Khmer Rouge crime against humanity..I do know a little but I'm sure that S21 was a torture centre & not a killing centre for the Khmer Rouge - 90% of the killing happened at killing centres such as Choeung EK (the most famous of all "Killing Fields") and Pol Pot & his lieutenants did not ordered the atrocities at the village of Anlong Weng (his house on the vid)
They ordered atrocities when they were at Phnom Penh from 1975 to 1979
Wow Malaysia tinggal kt mana

After rewatching Bald videos for weeks, there’s no better serotonin boost than seeing “1 hour ago”
I'm starting to think that all these coincidental meetings with other Ben were not a coincidence...
Youre ok bald. You make so many memories for those children you meet.legend.
After experiencing a dream trip, Cambodia is a paradise
Cambodia is the only country ive been to where a group of people will invite you every time to eat and drink beer with them. The reason he pulled the beer ring for you is because you can potentially win thousands of dollars or a car and there have been fights in the past after the buyer of the beer has shared his beer and the person who opened it runs off and claims the prize 😂
Pol Pot murdered teachers, engineers, electricians, doctors, builders and anyone with an education and sent the country back to the stone age and yet today, Cambodia and especially Phnom Penh rival any city in Asia. Got to admire the Cambodians positivity and not looking back in anger.
PS. Bald is correct. Cambodia is much cleaner than India.
oh yeh I just did the MyHeritage test and it turns out I'm related to PolPot!
Out of all the places I’ve been, S21 was the one that left me feeling the worst… absolutely horrific!
And I think every country is cleaner than India
this is the 200th best video i have seen on the net
That privacy destroying sponsorship though
They do have some privacy options on those sort of sites (if you trust them).
That is the whole point of MyHeritage. If you don't want to give your DNA away, then don't. Quite simple.
I will watch anything Bald publishes
I just came here for the drinking content
Cambodia is beautiful! Would love to visit this place one day.
Maybe just biased after watching the India video, but Cambodia seems so peaceful. The people seem like some of the most friendly people you have met thus far. There is something to be said about true suffering and the indomitable spirit of the Cambodians. Such lovely people with such a dark history
The people of Europe and North America can take a lesson from the story of Pol Pott. Their lives are being attacked by the same people today

Hi Bald, I hope all is well! Thanks for the upload! x
My goodness…. Are you telling me you can live in a hotel room in Cambodia for $450 a month?? Now there’s a deal
Amazing that guy led you all that way. He was just like “yeah sure I’ll take you there let’s go.” I live in Japan and have had a lot of similar experiences with people just giving me rides or taking me to dinner. I met an old Japanese guy at the maglev museum and he offered to take me to the train station but then got a call from his friend who wanted to get dinner so we went to a restaurant with his old female friend. I also became friends with the owner of a hotel in Hokkaido and he took me sledding down mountain roads at midnight with his family which was the craziest thing I’ve ever done. I also got to volunteer in a huge Shinto festival and dress up and everything. If you’re not an extrovert… pretend to be one.
What do you call it when a Cambodian dictator opens up a restaurant in his Cannabis plantation?
Pol Pot's Pot Plot Hot Pot.
