  • Explore Llanberis in Gwynedd a jewel of Snowdonia
Nestled at the bottom of Snowden, Llanberis has so much to offer. We were only here for a day for my daughter to complete some work for a college assignment, so this is a whistle stop tour of some of the main attractions.
The historic Dolbadarn Castle built in the 13th century by the Welsh Prince Llywelyn at the base of the Llanberis pass. Important as a symbol of power as well as militarily. Considered to be the finest surviving Welsh round tower.
Llyn Peris, like its larger neighbour Llyn Padarn was formed by glacial action and is now the lower reservoir of the Electric mountains water system
Hidden Deep in the mountain is the Hydroelectric power station with the main generator and turbine housed in a massive manmade chamber
Llyn Padarn and the country park are a fantastic place for paddle boarding and kayaking, or just have a walk along one of the trails from Padarn country park.
Within Padarn country park is the Slate Museum which helps to tell the story of the 3000 men who would have once worked the quarries.
The scars of the slate industry are clear to see in the welsh mountains this is Vivian quarry, now home to a diving centre though currently closed due to a land slide.
These narrow-gauge trains run along a 5-mile return trip from Llanberis onto the old slate railway route along the bank of Lake Padarn. Hauled by steam locomotives rescued from the Dinorwic Slate
The miners' hospital, built in 1860 and was one of the first building in the area to have hot and cold running water and electricity. The hospital was maintained by a sick club paid into by the Miners.
If you don't fancy the walk up the summit of Snowden there's always the train, and if you are lucky it will be a heritage steam train. Though for 2022 the train is only going to Clogwyn station ¾s of the way up.
