If anyone reading this are experiencing frequent clogging of their airbrush, try buying an airbrush cup strainer/filter (Green Stuff World sells a set) - I don't know if I am storing my paints wrong, or doing somethig else wrong, or whatever, but I used to have a lot of clogging because of small particles of dried paint from my bottles, but the filters catch almost all of them and now I really enjoy airbrushing again.
Great tip (appears to be some on Amazon as well:www.amazon.com/Airbrush-Strainer-Filters-Accessories-Diameter/dp/B0D8BBZ66V As far as using them, do you prep your paint and thinner in a little cup first, then pour it through these strainers into the airbrush? Or do you put your thinner in the airbrush first, then pour just the paint through the strainer into the airbrush.
Yup. I'm 100% getting this. I trust this as a safe intro to something that I'm, quite honestly, intimidated by. I have over a thousand minis and I need to learn how to use an airbrush for base-coating. I've collected over 150 high-end mini paints along with thinning, glaze, satin, and gloss mediums. I need to pull the trigger on an airbrush already. I can always upgrade either the tank or airbrush once I'm confident in understanding the operation and feel of these. Plus, that troubleshooting booklet is rad. This is really the kind of sponsored content that I appreciate. I'm so beyond sick of rattle cans. I live in a record-high precipitation area. Plus, I could have already had this bundle for the price of 6 of these comically overpriced Citadel rattle cans. (Retributer Armor gold & Leadbelcher gunmetal = $30 per can. Chaos Black & White Scar = $20 per can. ....oof. )
Well said! I think the "I can see how this is, upgrade later" sentiment is a really smart approach. Also, since you're in a really humid area you may want an inline moisture filter as well just in case (www.amazon.com/Iwata-Medea-Pistol-Grip-Moisture-Filter/dp/B000BQO8WY). The moisture trap from this one does just fine, but if you want some double assurance the inline filter is a good tool. And oh man don't get me started on Citadel's Primer now. They changed the nozzles to cheaper crappier ones with zero heads up -_- Chaos Black seems to be the only reliable one now.
inspiring and informative. I was on the fence on this kit but you sold me. I appreciated your honest take on the parts. I'm gonna get this one as a beginner starter!
This is great and super helpful! I have zero experience with an airbrush so this served as a great introduction and gave me a great into kit that I can look into. Thanks for the video!
This has to be the least shilly paid promotion video and you were clear and transparent that you were paid for this. Heck if you are this honest in the future I would not be annoyed by a Raid Shadow Legends plug. Also videos loke this illustrate how hard it is to paint on camera. As I too hold things close to my chest (but Inhave the added advantage of using my tummy as a table).
Appreciate you putting this out. I don't have a lot of money to 'take chances' on products for my hobby. This has given me the confidence to give airbrushing a try. Thank you again, Darcy!
Thanks Darcy for making this video 👍 As someone who is interested in air brushing their models but has little or no experience, I found this very useful & informative, thank you! 😊
Thanks! I only use my airbrush for priming or large base coats and I struggle a lot with the hand position to get finer details. Good to see someone working on a small scale.
I would definitely have purchased this back when I first got an airbrush setup if it had been available. That seems a very nice selection at a damn good price.
"While listening to Thrash Metal." I knew there was a reason I like you. 🤣Good demonstration as well I really enjoyed the video. 🙂I think it'll get another watch or two...
This was a really well put together video. I've been meaning to start learning airbrushing and this video pushed me over the edge and I pulled the trigger and bought one. Thank you!
This was an excellent video! I'm still pretty new to the hobby, in for about a year and a half or so. Haven't started airbrushing yet so a product review + quick how-to was an ideal video. Thanks!
This was great, thanks. Diving back in to the hobby and was thinking of grabbing an airbrush so this was timely and assuaged some fears I had that it would be super complicated 😄
Great video!! Gonna add this to my Christmas list. You packed a lot of good info in this video but didn’t bog down the presentation. The video flowed like properly thinned paint😊
Thank you for this in depth review. I was preparing to get an airbrush kit soon myself. I will probably get one of these. In the mean time I was wondering what "Thrash Metal" you were listening to painting the cron. Inquiring minds want to know. 😅
Happy to hear it was helpful. And since this video, I've learned that what I mainly listen to is metalcore. I thought anything that was mostly 16th beats was thrash metal 😅. At the time I was listening to the Christmas album of August Burns Red.
Hi! Airbrush cleaning is universal and there are already several thorough videos out there on the topic, so I felt it would be redundant. Here are two of the best ones (it's also detailed in the user guide of this airbrush as well). Here's one by Harder & Steenbeck ruclips.net/video/cGRrdrdDcPg/видео.htmlsi=lBAYLHllqQDuAw5R The one I learned on years ago is Vince V's: ruclips.net/video/yEIJs1c4bsQ/видео.htmlsi=9Krbxgo9xUbh1n9j
Great video, really informative. Im not exactly new to airbrushing but there were some great points I learned from here. Only query, how do you overcome the shake from headbanging while listening to thrash metal? that still illudes me
Thank you! I'm really glad to hear it; I was trying to keep it sorta "middle of the road" as far as information for both experienced and new painters. And the headbanging shake is ideal for the rapid drybrushing! Use it to your advantage 😆
After my 5th attempt of trying to airbrush this weekend, I literally put it back in its box, didn't bother cleaning it, and told myself that I guess I'm just cursed forever to use a brush. I only got it to work once, and that was with thinned down Corax White. Not even primer or airbrush paints would go through it. I may try this specific airbrush again in 6 months when it doesn't feel frustrating.
Just to clarify, do you mean you were using this particular one or that you'll attempt airbrushing again but using this airbrush 6 months from now ? Also as far as "not working", what was it doing (bubbling in the cup, not spraying at all, speckles when spraying?). Was Corax White the first paint you sprayed through it? If so, Corax White is notoriously chalky with large pigment particles and likely caused a clog. Also how were you cleaning it before it stopped spraying?
@@DarcyBonoCreations Not this particular one, but a starter one I bought last year off Amazon. Air would flow through but no paint, and I cleaned it several times to make sure there was no dried paint blocking.
@@DarcyBonoCreations Took it apart (practiced several times before actually using the airbrush to make sure I knew how to put it back together) and cleaned everything with 91% IPA, used nozzle brushes and inspected needle to makes sure not a single speck of paint was on it. Corax White was the second paint I tried with it. The first was Vallejo Surface Primer, couldn't get it to run through and cleaned it up and tried Corax White another time after that. I only got an airbrush for priming and base coats, but felt like I was spending more time troubleshooting the airbrush than if I just did everything by hand.
Darcy, loved the video! As for airbrushing, I have almost always zenithal highlighted but as of about 6 months ago, I now underspray from the bottom (in addition to zenithal). It’s just so much easier to paint layers over a color beside black primer (I work pretty thin paint layers). I do use white primer if I anticipate using contrast paints….but my pro-ackryl primer seems to rub off of the model. Do you have a recommendation for white primer?
Thanks so much Shawn, you're always so supportive! And sadly I've been hearing that from multiple people about Pro Acryl White. I ran into it when we moved to Tennessee and thought it was just due to the humidity so I switched over to Vallejo White Primer. Since they've reformulated their entire range, all of their products are absolutely gold. AK Interactive is another good airbrush primer (but also hard to find).
@ You’re very welcome 😊 . I live in Kentucky so it could be a humidity issue with me as well. I’ll give Vallejo a go and see how it works for me (trying to get AK is next to impossible for me). Thank you for the recommendation!
Quick question, do you notice a difference in color between the models you prime with White Scar from a rattle can and the Vallejo white? I'm think of getting an airbrush soon but I'm worried that the newer models will be a slightly different color than the older ones.
Thank you so much the the video. On thining out the paint. Every one said make it like skim milk and I can not tell the difference by looking at skim milk and whole milk. Is there a different way to tell if the paint is the right viscosity?
@@brianlambert8999 Yeah it is kinda a weird analogy 😄. Make it just slightly thicker than water. You can tell you've got it right by using the blow back technique. Cover the nozzle then depress and lightly pull back on the trigger, the bubbles should form easily and rapidly in the cup.
Darcy : We are our own worst enemies when it comes to doing anything on camera. We criticize others and then when we relax we do the same thing unwittingly ourselves. Modellers are the worst at being concentric but we try and with trialing we learn. So don't be your own worst critque , leave that to the likes of me to point out . Cheers.
