- Hi! Quick rather odd one this week! A capybara figure in sugar paste sat on a jungle leaf/botanical style cake! This was my sons birthday cake who is a fan of both the print, and the animal!

Better late than never Tracey , loved all the cakes you showed us, your capybara is so cute, it looks exactly like one so well done especially as it was the first one you have made . The wedding cake was awesome really loved that too. Your sponges are so tall, I wish I could get mine to rise as high they looked amazing.

I love that Kai's favourite animal isn't a run of the mill - tiger, elephant etc.... and he actually got a cake on time this year !! Very pleased for you all x
hahahaha Yes! Abbi's favourite is a rhino! Not often I get the kids cakes done on time, I was cutting it fine but I just about managed it! LOL x

I appreciate that you didn’t just go for an edible print of the leaves. Hand painted is so much better! I often have the issue of blending my seams because of the climate. I have to add quite a lot of tylose just so the paste is workable 😭
Thank you! Yes I bet that's challenging! Modelling chocolate is easier to blend but again - I bet the warm weather doesn't suit it too well!

Nope, never ever measure, I wing it, and work off the 'feel' of the paste once it's been added x

Hi, yes this is fondant. I have seen people paint on buttercream before - but to be honest if it was me I would just apply fondant leaf accents instead :D x

I’d like to ask you for some advice because you’re an expert and I’m just pretending to be lol. I’m making a Japanese theme cake with a roof top that is slightly curved at the top and another one in between the two tiers of my cakes. I can’t really give you any more details but I’ll put a link if you decide to help me out. I’m about to tear my hair out trying to figure out how to do this roof! My cake will be just inspired by that cake it won’t be a copy, but the roof is very similar in design. Please advise me on how I could achieve that roof top look! 🙏🏻

haha I think I have found at least 6-7 messages from you across RUclips/Facebook on this subject LOL Sorry, I've been super busy trying to get my work done. Take a look at the latest mushroom tutorial. The roof overhangs and is supported by a foamcore base - you'll want to start with the same sort of idea but instead of it being round you'll want to create either a square or hexagon (depending on how many points on the roof you'd like to have) Then instead of carving a cone like the mushroom you'll want to carve to keep the points in - sloping the roof outwards towards the foamcore. Good luck!
