I have a creak in my dub bsa axle, I cleaned and greased, I tested bearings without cranks but it doesn't sound very smooth. It only sounds when I use a lot of force with the cranks like crack crack with each revolution. Sram GX

The bottom bracket after a year or so started to have a little play no matter how hard I tight it. So I was wondering do you know can I maybe change ONLY the bearings inside this BB and the second question is if I can do you know maybe inner and outter diameter of those bearings. cheers
Unfortunately I've never tried to change the bearings since it is always easier and cheaper for me to just buy a new bottom bracket when it goes bad. I'm sure it can probably be done though, but I don't know the dimensions... Good luck though and hope you figure it out!
A nice video shows the trick of applying tape on threads. I learned it and will do it on my new bike frame. Good job! And I guess you play guitar, because you have longer nails on your right hand and short ones on the left. 😄😄😄
@Mary neff Yes! The direction of the arrows is the direction that they turn to thread in. You want the tape wound in the opposite direction do that when you thread it in, the tape doesn't come loose.
Teflon tape is for stopping leaks from threads. You use anti sieze for metal on metal threads, some people use grease but I only use grease on bearings and moving metal on metal parts. It's easier to cross thread when you put Teflon tape on, depending on how much you put on.
Anyone can install BB but Very few people and mechanics know the secret understandings. Certainly you are one of them. I was really happy to see you not to go towards srams way of tightening those cups with 50nm torque! That was ridiculously high for a external cup BB! Sram should re evaluate their methodology. Old school Square tapered BB may be needed a bit more torque but going at this level is simply torturing your frame! Where Aluminium with excessive torque is the volatile mixture for a disastrous outcome. Shimano even provide plastic adapter for regular hollowtec 2 BB wrench as they've already estimated the torque value for that cup should be so low that even a plastic material would be sufficient enough to bear that low level torque.
Yes! I totally agree! Never had a bb come loose even though I don’t crank it tight! Titanium is one thing, but if you were to do that in an aluminum frame, it would definitely be a disaster LOL

Yah I find that about 20nm is just fine, definitely don’t need to go all the way to 50 haha. And yah lithium grease should work fine!

On some dub BB its marked 35-50nm and I tightened to 35nm and no problem. PTFE trick its godsend for creek.
Sram is a manufacturer, they have top engineers. I'm sure they know what they're doing lol
Aren’t you supposed to use one spacer when you’re bottom bracket is 73mm?and use all the spacers when it’s 68mm?
Really depends on the width of the cranks, that'll be the factor for how many spacers to use

Yah it was closer to 30, I just don’t like going as tight and with the tape I’ve never had a problem with one coming loose
