Can You Beat SALT AND SACRIFICE With Only Firebombs?

- It's finally time. Salt and Sacrifice is finally done patching, which means its time for us to break it repeatedly until the developers notice and try to nerf all of my strategies.
And what better way to start than by proving whether or not you can beat Salt and Sacrifice with only firebombs and firebomb equivalents? Think it can be done? Let's find out.

This man’s dedication to handheld explosives is only rivaled by demoman and action movie directors
Michael Bay could learn from Lemon a thing or two for sure
The Goddess of Explosions demands nothing less.
If I was bad challenge runner I wouldn't be sittin' here making these videos now would I?
He tried to firebomb a boss called flamelurker, I think hes surpassed them big time lmao
If I were a bad inquisitor I wouldn’t be sitting here witcha now would I!

Okay so if I want The Backlogs to play my game I just need to ONE: make it a difficulty Fantasy game and TWO: Have firebombs added.
Honestly? Just the latter point will do it.
@@TheBacklogs So Steelrising could be a possibility as well ?
@@TheBacklogs Futuristic cities with high tech capable of vaporizing atoms in an instant meanwhile here's a crazed lunatic running around in crusade armor throwing fire bombs at everything.

Now imagine the chronomancer having a last ditch attack that rewinds the entire battle back a little bit restoring both their and your health but also restoring your items that were used in that time but it is also limited to a single use.
That actually sounds really cool!
Imagine if the the craft able amulet or some other gear allowed surviving one death blow with a similar effect in a small area.
@@mlhx9181 That'd be wild.
I picked up both sanctuary and sacrifice recently because of you. Gotten lost in both games, been a great time
Exact same thing happened to me lol
[whispers] add Vigil and Hollowknight to that list ;)
Fun fact about the Chronomancer Time Fields- because it slows down projectiles, ones that hit multiple times deal more damage if he and the projectiles pass through at the same time.
I thought crushing the hearts was devouring them, by absorbing their essence or smth, not USING A DAMN PREDATOR MOUTH
I was thinking necromorph mouth, but that works too
the mage devoured screen was NOT a metaphor!
If they do a third game in this series, I could see it being called Salt & Sanctity
Not bad
Salt & Suplex is the fighting game spinoff
Salt & Slaughter
Salt & Sacrilege
Salt & Sentience
Salt & Sugar
Salt & Spiced Chicken
The options are endless
@@Kalion-mi1zc "Salt and Sacrilege" sounds pretty good, actually
Or a spinoff: Pepper & Purgatory
i did really enjoy the utter hopelesness of the setting as it is revealed, how this world is ruled by cruel and capricious gods that throw a world-ending tantrum when their entitled wish for the agonising death of a third of everyone who ever lived is not granted. It feels like fighting against the most impossible odds, and i was honestly a bit confused by the ending originally as i expected that one of the option would be to give up and reinstore the sacrifices and instead i was being offered a vague choice between taking the undone sacrifice place or "devouring the tree" I do greatly enjoy your interpretation of the later through, to finally put an end to all these games and face the gods head on, even if there is absolutely no chance of victory. Better to be destroyed than to continue living under their opression.
the ironic part of their tantrum is that it's likely they unintentionally committed self-dirtnap, the gods sure ain't as rocks fall in s&s1 as they were in s&s2
I went with the same ending at the end of my first play through, if the gods do destroy themselves unintentionally by destroying those that sustain them I sure hope that's the case, their cruelty and madness was simply too much to let continue, let spite be their downfall.
i love how you showed us everything and the truth and that badass line LET THEM COME, it was like a whole character arc so what would be the name of the next game salt and gods?
The next game is actually Salt and Sanctuary. Its a whole lore thing. But if a 3rd game ever comes around, I better be allowed to kill at least one god with firebombs.
@@TheBacklogs makes sense since the final boss is nameless god but yes i think you will be able to kill all the gods who knows the dev might put a sling to increase firebomb damage
@@TheBacklogs huh sacrifice is a prequel?
Salt and Lemons. Cause they're going to burn your pantheon down. WITH LEMONS!
@@tricmagic as the saying says when you have lemons you make lemonade
There's a game that you might be interested in. It's called Noita and it's a roguelike where you're a mage trying to get the depths of a mountain. Not sure how good it'd be for challenge runs but I think you'd enjoy it
"Let them come" time to usher in the age of the Goddess 💣
At this point someone needs to make a firebomb lore
Gives a whole new meaning to "The Age of Fire."
@@BLKDEVX we already have lore tbf just stated in older vids
If this series is any indication the list of problems in games you CAN’T solve with thrown fiery explosives is very short
Also challenge idea
“can you beat Skyrim with only Tony”
You can only use the spells for summoning the various skeletons from one of the creation club expansions ie the skeleton minion and bone colossus (I think that’s what it’s called) because it’s just a big skeleton made of smaller skeletons it’s basically Tony’s finale form you can also use the various skeleton summoning spells between those two (yes this includes the bone man from the DawnGuard DLC)
I recommend a Breton for the 20 in conjuration it’ll make your life a lot easier
Putting Tony to work DOES sounds like fun...
@@TheBacklogs hope it does end up being fun if you decide to try it
@@TheBacklogs totally recommend this. People really like Skyrim so it should be successful too
@@TheBacklogs also there is a guy in the college of winterhold his name is something like philiz I know it starts with Ph but that’s it he’s the conjuration trainer (expert level) and sells lots of conjuration spells relative to your conjuration level
There is that skill tree overhaul that has an entire chunk of the conjuration tree dedicated to the Tony Gang. Ordinator I think it's called? Or Arbiter? It's a pain in the ass though, as you need to grind for each specific bone per Tony.
24:03 Funny story with the heart: First time I fought it, the ghosts spawned on the far end of the arena...and didn't aggro. I chose to stay right by where I'd come up and used a combination of my ranged weapon and various consumables to kill the heart, who actually didn't transform at any point.
This was likely patched out as my subsequent playthrough I had to fight it the right way, as the ghosts still spawned way over there...and then wandered over to bother me. And the heart transformed this time.
Imagine being ancient mage powerful enough to shape reality to your bidding and being feared by others
Only to be utterly destroyed by some random dude chugging bomber man lmao.
Just wait till he starts throwing around produce.
"Wait, so I am getting killed because I was driven insane by my addiction to magic and they send a madman addicted to explosives ? HYPOCRITES !!! How is he any less of a danger society ?"
I can already Vision Lemon's perfect weapon. A fist, with a firebomb attatched that will explode at random when punched
2-step goodbye in Fallout: New Vegas
Wow I had completely forgotten this game came out. Somebody said that EGS is a black hole for game visibility and they were not wrong.
it doesnt help that the game itself is massively disliked compared to its predecessor
Yeah, the monster hunter like system for the mages was not a good idea. Souls-likes and Monhun-likes have two very different types of difficulty that do not mix well together.
Although to be fair, we didn’t know that until this game took the plunge.
“EGS”? What’s that?

Me: About to rewatch DS3 firebombs for the 2000th time You: how about no
Oh my God, that ending. Well done, sir.
I'm really enjoying the longer videos you put out. Also, really excited for when you decide to jump into XCOM 2.
"I am here to ask you one question, and one question only: EXPLOSIONS?!"
Lemon I just ordered the dark souls trilogy I started with elden ring but you’ve inspired my love of fromsoft games thank you
Omg thank you for hearting my comment that means a lot to me especially since I’ve commented on like 5 videos ever
@@AshCrow1 Yoooo! I just started playing the Dark Souls trilogy 2 weeks ago after years of watching weird runs etc. On DS2 Scholar right now after DS1, and weirdly, enjoying it far more than DS1. Wasnt expecting this, based on the game's reputation.
Now all you need to do is buy a playstation for Bloodborne.
This video inspired me to get the game (I was a big fan of Salt and Sanctuary), and I had a much more extreme version of 20:00 happen during a daily hunt. It was _supposed_ to be a fated Fungalmancer fight in the mountain area, but a fated Diablomancer and a fated Corpumancer both spawned in the same spot as the Fungalmancer. They all immediately dealt a ton of damage to each other (turns out all three are really strong against other mages), then all three decided to retreat to their lair...which was, again, the same spot. All 3 were on their knees within 20 seconds without my involvement, but unfortunately you can't kill a mage fast enough to chain them together.
You know, Dragon's Dogma has Firebombs, too. It works off weight, too so infinite capacity
I think you're the first voutuber that I'm subscribed to that actually beat this game. Everyone else just put it down after a bit. Apparently all the changes that were made that makes this game different from Sanctuary were too much and ruined the experience.
That's why I dropped it after a day too, most people, me included, went in expecting a salt and sanctuary 2 and more souls like 2d action but sacrifice just isn't that anymore. Not saying it's but, just not for me
Game barely has any content besides Mage grinding and it's connections to the previous games seem so obscure it could as well be completely unrelated as far as I can tell
I had a lot of fun with Sacrifice but it didn't last as long as Sanctuary. I don't even remember how many playthroughs of Sanctuary I finished. Sacrifice? DEX build and Sage build. Consumables only challenge run, attempted pacifist but I don't think you can defeat the matriarch that way.
Early mages are sooo boring and you see(and fight them) all game. Starting new build was most fun thing in Sanctuary, here it's a chore.
Not again, Lemon
He can’t be stopped, he can only be delayed and slowed down before he inevitably beats every game with firebombs.
You can't blame Lemon, it's will of the Goddess.
No, Again Lemon.
Yes, again!
Forever repeating, Lemon. Forever requested, Lemon. FOREVER, LEMON.
wow... salt and secrifice sure looks like an awesome game... I picked up Salt and Sanctuary after watching some of your videos, and I think i'm going to get this one as well. Really nice video, Lemon. ( btw, i only noticed it was 40 min long after it was over. It had me glued in front of the screen and it was a blast to watch ). Can't wait to see what else the firebomb academy can acomplish
people who hear me say firebombs are viable and legitimate primary weapons: "nice joke pal"
lemon's firebomb runs: exists
me to those same people: "told ya so"
The gods punishment, is overpriced bombs beyond the fog of demons and extremely limited bombs beyond the fog of gold.
I love your videos lemon, please keep making these challenge videos :)
Mmmm yes, I love bingeing Backlogs every morning
I really fell in love with Salt and Sanctuary through your Videos and i replay every once in a while
I own Salt and Sacrafice but haven't been able to get into it since yet for some reason. I really hope to warm up with the game as I progress further
Loving this series of fire bomb themed runs! (When’s the Elden Ring Cracked pot, ritual pot run coming?)
Gotta finish Demons Souls first!
I really enjoyed this game. Binged it like 5 days. Surprised it got mediocre reviews. The gameplay loop was incredibly addictive for me. Souls meets Monster hunter progression was a cool way to mix up the formula.
Part of what bothered me was how weapons in a single class could have completely different stat scalings (i.e. Palatine Vanguard scales on Strength and Conviction, but the Redscar Vanguard (crafted from Pyromancer mats) scales off of Dex and Arcane). At least they could've had one stat scaling that was on all weapons of a class, make it easier to establish your build...
@@gryphose1849 hmmm i think i did strength and conviction, so maybe i just lucked out buy by the end all my scalings and stats seemed to make perfect sense for my build.
@@TheJols Eh, it was more of a nitpick on my end. Both of my playthroughs to platinum it ended up feeling awfully same-y.
Compared to Sanctuary, the builds just didn't feel as diverse (for context, I went with a heavy armor vanguard build on my first playthrough, light armor staff build on my second.)
It got such mediocre reviews because everyone was expecting a proper sequel and more of the first game which they did not get for better or worse
@@donkeysunite25 Basically a Darkest Dungeon 2 situation
"Looks like frog legs are back on the menu, boys!"
Oh god, Lemon's been infected with French.
As someone with just over 4000 hours in Salt and Sanctuary and am heading to 1000 in Salt and Sacrifice, the game isn't bad. It's a good game. Just felt like a very weird design decision to take a great souls like game and make the sequel a monster hunter style game. I know at least I personally was hoping for more of the same. Maybe more about the stories of the deities in S&S1.
I think developers or someone said that Sas2 i Prequel. And gods can just have diferend names like in greek and roman mithologi
Great video Lemon! I bounced off of this game pretty hard even though i loved the first one and Monster Hunter, but seeing this run makes me want to try again. Maybe something will click this time and I'll be able to make it through to see the ending
Mages: The mages had the power to save the world! To help it!
Also Mages: So what if we attack you on site, don't bother speaking to you til we're dying and when we do transform right in front of you, immediately attack you unprovoked... You're still evil!
Not a great argument, my guy
The mages are puppets of the gods, for all their blame of the inquisitors, they are just helpless cogs in the machine themselves. They only get to speak in the brief moment of lucidity they get before dying.
I love the use of the Dark World theme in the background! As if I couldn't enjoy your videos more but Zelda music does it
"Let them come" Ngl, pretty badass line. Also, challenge run idea: X-COM explosives only. Let us continue the firebomb legacy.
I am hoping for more sacrifice videos, the 2 games and you are the reason I come to this channel. The enthusiastic energy is so addictive
Ah, so the mage hunt begins. This one was a bit underwhelming for me, but it should be good for some challenge runs.
Enjoyed my time with this game (not as much as the original, but still); and glad we're finally getting challenge runs with it!
Hopefully we get some crazy mods from the community.
just, whoa. now thats lore, gameplay, fun, comedy and dread in one video. amazing
The only time I beat the game so far, I did it in coop with my wife and we used bombs every time we encounter mages. Pair them with the Temporal Twinsickle and you’re Golden!
Oh man update 2.0 completely changed the game up.
Can't wait to see more challenge runs of this game!
31:03-31:18 Sssoooooooo, they're basically saying that Salt and Sacrifice is secretly Purella Magi Madoka Magica? (If you know the anime, you'll know why I made the connection)
My Goddamn it Tony shirt arrived, it's wonderful! Super soft. Can't wait to see what else you produce
Haven't played Salt and Sanctuary but i saw your challenge runs and i think this game deserves a try
Lifeformed is such an interesting place to pull music from for a video like this where you are fighting undead and corpse mages, but I dig it.
So after watching I think all of your S&S videos, i thought why not download and play myself. As a Souls fan, I'm really enjoying but god you make this look easy!
[firey explosion knocks down the door]
NOBODY EXPECTS THE FIRE BOMB!
My man really took one look at the complainers and said “skill issue”
I'm gonna give it to this game history. It's pretty neat to know that we are potential mages
Finally! Salt and Sacrifice! I’ve been waiting for this.
If this channel has taught me anything, is that there's no unsolvable problems, as long as you have enough motivation, and Firebombs at your disposal.
I don’t know of any other channels that I click like before the video even starts, by far my favorite content creator
BUT LEMON!! What about all that fire bomb LOOOOOORRREEEEE!!!
Maybe been watching too much game theory. But I’d love to see you just play the game and go through the lore with your favorite weapons. You’re always a treat to watch.
Just picked up Sacrifice but won’t be able to actually play it for awhile. Fell in love with Sanctuary just watching you play and got it myself a few months back on PlayStation. Gonna grab it on the Switch so I can play even more often lol
You can actually get the Phlogiston Concoction as a starting gift, so I think you could have managed to avoid the punch-to-kill necessity.
That ending cutscene sent chills down my spine.
I played Bloodborne for the first last week and when the fight against Ebrietas got a bit close I remembered the molotoves buried in my hotbar and I maniacally yelled „Firebombs“ while finishing her off and then realized I watched a lot of Backlogs lately
Funny. You play the game taking out bosses with fire bombs and the run ends with the gods answering back in kind. Also, since both of the games were on sale and you made them look fun, I got both Salt and X games for PS4. Wish me luck cause I may need it.
Salt and Sanctuary is harder and had a dark theme, if I remember. Co-op was fun.
Salt and Sanctuary is a bit easier once you get into the motions and farm Mages. It's also not as terrifying as the first game. Co-op is fun too, a bit better than how the last game did Local Co-op on the PC.
I was a tank with a massive heavy weapon in both games.
I’d be happy, if the video was working…
(Edit: the video did start working, but only about 40 minutes after the upload)
Great video! Nice to see some Salt and Sacrifice! I enjoyed it immensely ❤
Just a random thought that crept into my mind: The Convergence mod for DS3 might be right up your alley. There's an alchemist class that focuses on luck based weapons and consumables with all kinds of new firebomb-like items among other things. I know you said you're not focusing on modded content and that's fine, but maybe it's something to keep in mind or check out in private :)
Not enough people are making good content for this game, excited to see more sns from you
That lingering spell when the Thaumamancer died unearthed some bad memories. Not sure if they increased the time they kneel since I played, but he expired the kneel and healed up multiple times for me because he always ended up kneeling inside those lingering blades... When I heard you can't finish them with grapples or bombs, I thought for sure that'd happen a bunch of times. Guess not though!
My life is fulfilled been waiting on this for ever
Look! Even the gods wanted to join in! Their throwing firebombs too!.
All hail Lemon of the Backlogs!
Patron Saint of Yeet and Delete!
Also I did not realize that this was a sequel to Salt and Sanctuary.
ok im going to say it this man made me a fan doing only firebombs runs in dark souls
Thanks so much for this you beautiful human being! You are awesome!
You know I find it kind of funny that you made a comparison to monster hunter, at release I wasn't enraptured like I was in Salt in Sanctuary. I changed my mind when I actually started doing prep work and studying the mages like I would a monster... I had a light bulb moment and started devouring mages like they were nothing. 10/10 would partake in mage eating.
The Backlogs: The physical incarnation of "Kill it with Fire!"
Lemon my man, we need a complete playthrough, I'm too dumb for this game 🥺
After all the hype you gave this game, I was wondering if you forgot about it 😄 glad that wasn't the case
Awsome run lemon cant wait for "Potatoes 2 Carrot boogaloo"
I like the question posed by the ending. Better a never-ending cycle of death and destruction that will leave some alive, or an all out attack from the Gods from which it's possible none will survive?
Me, I'm all for devouring that tree.
There needs to be a game where you either throw flaming lemons or play as a lemon throwing firebombs. We’d see at least 1 playthrough of it in sure
Love the into the breach music in the background
I am saving this for after I finally get to play and beat Salt and Sacrifice myself.
Another incredible video offering for the FIRE GODDESS
another note about the hydromancer at 8:40
you can also just roll through those bubbles and it has the same effect, no need for blocking
Dude I’m a fan and follower of the souls series and many games like it just like the salt and sanctuary/sacrifice but damn I will say salt and sacrifice kicks my ass pretty hard, so to win using only fire bombs man I’m impressed
The firebomb saga continues
Loved the lore man. Great run
Man, I am so excited for this game to be freed from EGS.
"welcome to the backlogs"? Surely you ment to say "Welcome back to firebomb academy"?

"down he goes and in my happy fun stick goes" totally not out of context
Lemon saying let them come is the coldest fucking line bro
And so the man stood, the smell of smoke and ash clearing as he stared at the tree, where sacrifice after sacrifice have been left to rot, to decay.....to lose themselves to the eternal suffering.....it had to end. For the mages he so ruthless broke, who were on the same path of redemption as he was. For the friends who lost their way, who he has no choice but to lay to rest. And so, he cut through the tree, tearing out the essence that kept it going, and stood, and waited. He stood against innumerable gods, yet he was ready. And his Goddess would be pleased to know, no matter if he lived or died that day, they wouldn't take him easily. Not until the last firebomb left his hand.
Got salt and sacrifice because of you it was vary fun highly recommend
