I think we should coin "The Zegler Effect" for when the star of a project acts so out of line that they damage the project beyond repair by making the general public actively root for it to do poorly. Or refer to a character who is hated to the point it harms the work they're in purely because the actor is so despicable as "A Zegler" akin to "A Mary Sue". She's certainly not the first person to do this, but unlike other actors and actresses who have done that this is quite literally all she is known for: she's only been in a small handful of movies, nearly all of them are aggressively mid, and she's not known as the face of any of them.
It's not just Zegler. I'd put Brie Larson on top of that list, too. She was the first torpedo for the MCU. Plenty of other franchises are starting to figure out that telling half (or more than half) of the potential audience "if you don't like my politics, don't buy my product" that it tends to be very bad for business. She was so adamant about being the strongest Avenger in interviews (e.g. the infamous one with Hemsworth and Cheadle) I was sitting there thinking - you don't want to be the Superman of the Avengers. From a storytelling perspective you can't put an overpowered character like that in unless you invent something like Kryptonite. It's why Thor and Hulk were largely sidelined for Avengers 2 and Civil War. In Infinity War, the Hulk was given a mental block and Thor was a victim of the Worf effect to make Thanos look strong. Finally in End Game, Thor was made into a comedy character and Hulk was knocked out for the pivotal battle. If you see interviews with the cast of Wicked or the Acolyte, the interviews encourage them to talking about their feelings. The people given access to celebrities are often niche publications. An interview with Pink news isn't going to be about mere craft. It's going to encourage you to talk about stuff that would previously have been private. There are probably a hundred outlets or influencers whose interviews encourage celebrities to talk about feelings - WHICH TRAINS THEM TO DO IT. We've democratized media and removed gatekeepers. A symptom of this is that you have 'news' websites that will have an article about Ukraine and then an article about Kim Kardashian's trauma at chipping a fingernail. The democratization of news means that news is ANYTHING people are interested enough to click in. There's a borderine nihilistic view that if you can get people to click on a link then that was by definition news. In a different generation, knowing the feeling of celebrities would have been a failure of discipline.

Disney DID release the trailer on their official RUclips account. I watched it on there when it had about 17k views. The comment section was trashing the movie relentlessly, so Disney pulled it from RUclips. It’s annoying that nobody is talking about this because I caught them red-handed. I even pressed ChatGPT about it and it admitted Disney pulled it after the backlash. I will not see this movie or ANY Disney movie until they shift gears and stop attacking the fans (I’m not conservative or liberal and my family literally fits each aspect their entire demographic).

It's not just because of Rachel Zegler, I'm not watching it because it's woke. Snow White is not a girlboss dreaming of being a leader without a prince to save her from danger. There has never been a version of Snow White where the Queen wasn't far more beautiful than Snow White. The Queen has always been devastatingly, stunningly gorgeous, while Snow White has always had a pretty but plain girl next door look.

I actually think that, if you're going to represent a cause or an ideology, you have a duty to that cause to do it well. The problem with political discussion, and why people selling a product should avoid it, is it's not a one-way street. You can't just walk up to someone, say your politics at them, and then walk away: they want to say theirs back, and that is their right to do so. As soon as someone selling a product says "I stand with Side A" or "Side B can go fuck themselves", well Side B is going to be like "Hold my beer" and start typing their replies. And then everything about the product becomes nothing but a back and forth about Side A and Side B, when everything about the product should be about the product. Have you heard anyone the last year say "I think this movie will be good/bad because of thing in the movie?" No. And we can thank Ms. Zegler for that, for turning all the discussion of this product into "I hate this product because of the latest drivel to ooze out of her mouth".
SO MANY FILMS that do not need to be "remade" in any way. So many do not require sequels or prequels. Sadly it's a desire to "cash in"; or just a failure to produce something new by the studios.

Some of those shots look barely populated. With the scene of the crowd standing being Zegler, the implication is she's powerful because of the mob behind her (who are ultimately props). But it looks small. Ok, you filmed it on a sound stage, but you youd should probably put some work into make the production feel bigger than a highschool play. I'd understand if these were reshoots and they had to save cash, but the stuff about snow white being a leader doesn't seem like it would have been reshot. Zelger had talked about that ages ago. My thought it they had to reshoot so much that it looks hurried and cheap. Or that a live action snow white was always going to have the budgetting for CGI putting huge pressure on this. If you need hundreds of millions of dollars and it still looks cheap, then maybe work on projects that aren't quite so CGI heavy.

Somehow she’ll arise from her comatose state to chase the wicked witch up the mountain. We already see she will save the Prince in the Trailer. I was surprised to see a scene in the trailer where she said, “I’m going to need your help?”. I bet that’s just to make us think she will need someone to save her. That scene will never be in the movie. No Disney girl boss needs or wants help from anyone. Instead of “…I’ll take the broom…” she sings, “… and you’ll take the broom” then handing the broom to one of the CGI uncanny valley abominations. I guess that where she learns to be the leader her father wanted her to be, by pushing around the dwarves, who were kind enough to let her stay, and make them clean up the place for her specification. They would have kicked her ass out in the real world. If some bitch intruded my house, then demanded me to clean it to her standards, I’d say, “don’t let the doorknob hit you where the good lord split you!” And punted her ass out the door and sent a letter to the queen and tell her where she can pick up this bossy piece of… you know.

Fairy tales that use traditional animation can potentially work well because the drawn medium is a "cousin" to classic storybook illustration. Live action and photoreal CG creates a hurdle to work harder to suspend disbelief. I can't be sure from what you've shown that this movie would necessarily be bad, especially if I had no knowledge of the controversies behind it. Going in, its biggest handicap is that it is Disney, and everyone expects classic Disney Snow White, and that its star dissed the original, which was throwing down the gauntlet to fans and (in her ignorance) raising the bar for her and the entire crew. It might be better if it never referenced any of the original especially if it's going to be wishy-washy and sort of strip mine what its keeping from the original but arrogantly claiming that it's an improvement. BTW, I too thought the dwarves were magical creatures like elves. They are not. The are referred to as "men" and "little men", who I assume had an advantage of working in tight places in the mines.
It's such a weird style - LAR plus CGI nightmare fuel, so you don't get the realism of the live actors in a set, nor the charm of the animated characters in the fantasy world. The color palette is strangely muted too. And those dwarves. Oh dear. Zegler's red carpet yammering included a gem that SW was going to become the leader - fearless, fair, brave and true - that her father set her up to be. If that's the Dawn of the Girlboss narrative line, then yeah, count me out.

There were magazines that allowed celebrties to talk to women about their latest aesthetics or their hot new relationships. THen you had magazines full of long range shots of female celebrities implying that some celebrity had stains on their clothes, had cellulite, and were headed towards nervous breakdowns. There was an appetite, but it was somewhat kept in check by a masculine ideal that you should be interested in serious things. So sniffing through a celebrities dirty laundry was regarded as weird and a prurient interest to be resisted.
If you compared an old interview of Anthony hopkins, it's likely stuff about the craft. If you see interviews with the cast of Wicked or the Acolyte, the interviews encourage them to talking about their feelings. The people given access to celebrities are often niche publications. An interview with Pink news isn't going to be about mere craft. It's going to encourage you to talk about stuff that would previously have been private. There are probably a hundred outlets or influencers whose interviews encourage celebrities to talk about feelings - WHICH TRAINS THEM TO DO IT. We've democratized media and removed gatekeepers. A symptom of this is that you have 'news' websites that will have an article about Ukraine and then an article about Kim Kardashian's trauma at chipping a fingernail. The democratization of news means that news is ANYTHING people are interested enough to click in. There's a borderine nihilistic view that if you can get people to click on a link then that was by definition news. In a different generation, knowing the feeling of celebrities would have been a failure of discipline.

I can't help but feel that whoever cast this smug, self righteous shrew as Snow White exists in one of two states - permanent depression at their lack of judgement if they actually thought she was a good fit for the role, or out of control hilarity at the chaos they have unleashed over at Disney if it was their plan all along to sabotage this movie by casting the single most unlikeable woman ever to draw breath as one of the most beloved figures in the entire Disney back catalogue.
She's actually quite beautiful and her appearance in the movie is not a bad approximation of Snow White's look. Unfortunately, she has the morals and mouth of an activist, and that is a very, very ugly thing.

It reminds me of the dwarves in "The Hobbit," whose attributes and characters merged into one generic depiction. Nothing more than ballast for the further plot. I hope the evil Queen wins.

Disney DID release the trailer on their official RUclips account. I watched it on there when it had about 17k views. The comment section was trashing the movie relentlessly, so Disney pulled it from RUclips. It’s annoying that nobody is talking about this because I caught them red-handed. I even pressed ChatGPT about it and it admitted Disney pulled it after the backlash. I will not see this movie or ANY Disney movie until they shift gears and stop attacking the fans (I’m not conservative or liberal and my family literally fits each aspect their entire demographic).

There has never been a version of Snow White where the Queen wasn't far more beautiful than Snow White. The Queen has always been devastatingly, stunningly gorgeous, while Snow White has always had a pretty but plain girl next door look.
That's arguable, but ultimately it doesn't matter... that is not even close to the main reason(s) why so many people are committed to not supporting this expensive propaganda project.

As someone who aligns more closely with her politics she just comes off as rude, and unlikable. And… unkind for someone who is supposed to be promoting a film about kindness. Also, Disney is as corporate as they come in the film industry and has literally no morals beyond chasing money. Zegler should have major issues with Disney itself as well but silence from her because they are giving her a nice check.
There’s definitely a right way to stand up for people and using your platform as a public figure to speak out and help others, but Zegler is just saying spiteful things that help nobody, is harming her career, along with the careers of her co-stars. I don’t see any way this movie doesn’t flop.
I like this take. Even if you agree with her politics, it’s clear to see that she is very unlikable. Her perspective is the most exaggerated and off putting idea of what a liberal is. To think she is someone who apparently is fighting for inclusivity and kindness, she seems to have so much hate for anyone who goes against her politics.
I actually think that, if you're going to represent a cause or an ideology, you have a duty to that cause to do it well. It's like the medical concept of "primum non nocere", "first do no harm", non-maleficence: "With any existing problem, it may be better to not do something, or even to do nothing at all, than risk causing more harm than good." Someone in her position could support her causes easily without opening her mouth; her financial resources alone could do more than her mouth ever could.

The problem with political discussion, and why people selling a product should avoid it, is it's not a one-way street. You can't just walk up to someone, say your politics at them, and then walk away: they want to say theirs back, and that is their right to do so. As soon as someone selling a product says "I stand with Side A" or "Side B can go fuck themselves", well Side B is going to be like "Hold my beer" and start typing their replies. And then everything about the product becomes nothing but a back and forth about Side A and Side B, when everything about the product should be about the product. Have you heard anyone the last year say "I think this movie will be good/bad because of thing in the movie?" No. And we can thank Ms. Zegler for that, for turning all the discussion of this product into "I hate this product because of the latest drivel to ooze out of her mouth".

SO MANY FILMS that do not need to be "remade" in any way. So many do not require sequels or prequels. Sadly it's a desire to "cash in"; or just a failure to produce something new by the studios.

Some of those shots look barely populated. With the scene of the crowd standing being Zegler, the implication is she's powerful because of the mob behind her (who are ultimately props). But it looks small. Ok, you filmed it on a sound stage, but you youd should probably put some work into make the production feel bigger than a highschool play. I'd understand if these were reshoots and they had to save cash, but the stuff about snow white being a leader doesn't seem like it would have been reshot. Zelger had talked about that ages ago. My thought it they had to reshoot so much that it looks hurried and cheap. Or that a live action snow white was always going to have the budgetting for CGI putting huge pressure on this. If you need hundreds of millions of dollars and it still looks cheap, then maybe work on projects that aren't quite so CGI heavy.

In the original, the dwarves, lead by Grumpy, who I believe was the one to yell, “there’s the witch, let’s get her!”. Showing bravery by chasing the witch to the mountain top where she fell to her death. There is no way that they’re going to let this Snow White be saved by anyone but herself. Somehow she’ll arise from her comatose state to chase the wicked witch up the mountain. We already see she will save the Prince in the Trailer.
I was surprised to see a scene in the trailer where she said, “I’m going to need your help?”. I bet that’s just to make us think she will need someone to save her. That scene will never be in the movie. No Disney girl boss needs or wants help from anyone. Instead of “…I’ll take the broom…” she sings, “… and you’ll take the broom” then handing the broom to one of the CGI uncanny valley abominations.
I guess that where she learns to be the leader her father wanted her to be, by pushing around the dwarves, who were kind enough to let her stay, and make them clean up the place for her specification. They would have kicked her ass out in the real world. If some bitch intruded my house, then demanded me to clean it to her standards, I’d say, “don’t let the doorknob hit you where the good lord split you!” And punted her ass out the door and sent a letter to the queen and tell her where she can pick up this bossy piece of… you know.

Snow White was a story about both outer and inner beauty. Zegler to me is way more like the Evil Queen with her ugly personality, and I'm repulsed now whenever I see her in Snow White's role.
What i don't understand is why Disney thought it would be okay to do this to SNOW WHITE. Like, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, even if the trailers don't look the BEST there aren't a LOT of live action versions of those fairytales, many of the decent ones are foreign films, so if you want a hollywood version, you'll at least try it. But Snow Friggin White? Dude. Even if you're just not in the mood for the animated version, you got options. Mirror Mirror starring Lily Collins, Canon Films Snow White, Snow White: a Tale of Terror... Even Snow White and the Huntsman, though it's not the greatest. So who, in the mood for a live action Snow White film, is going to subject themselves to this crap?
Personally i was looking forward to Disney's live action Snow White ten years ago after seeing Cinderella 2015. I thought Snow White would be like that, with real dwarfs and maybe only some of the 😊woodland creatures being cgi just like Cinderella's mice were... This... This is not what i waited a damn decade for. Screw it, I'm just gonna rewatch the version with the girl from Smallville and call it a day.
Snow White can be an everyday hero with love in her heart taking care of others. She doesn’t need to be a “girl boss”. There is strength and bravery in love.

Fairy tales that use traditional animation can potentially work well because the drawn medium is a "cousin" to classic storybook illustration. Live action and photoreal CG creates a hurdle to work harder to suspend disbelief.
I can't be sure from what you've shown that this movie would necessarily be bad, especially if I had no knowledge of the controversies behind it. Going in, its biggest handicap is that it is Disney, and everyone expects classic Disney Snow White, and that its star dissed the original, which was throwing down the gauntlet to fans and (in her ignorance) raising the bar for her and the entire crew. It might be better if it never referenced any of the original especially if it's going to be wishy-washy and sort of strip mine what its keeping from the original but arrogantly claiming that it's an improvement.
BTW, I too thought the dwarves were magical creatures like elves. They are not. The are referred to as "men" and "little men", who I assume had an advantage of working in tight places in the mines.

It's such a weird style - LAR plus CGI nightmare fuel, so you don't get the realism of the live actors in a set, nor the charm of the animated characters in the fantasy world. The color palette is strangely muted too. And those dwarves. Oh dear.
Zegler's red carpet yammering included a gem that SW was going to become the leader - fearless, fair, brave and true - that her father set her up to be. If that's the Dawn of the Girlboss narrative line, then yeah, count me out.
