Please react to the (paramedic force 5 bridge creek and moore, Oklahoma tornado May 3 1999). It's the first responders response to the 1999 moore, Oklahoma F5 tornando. I currently work as an EMT with EMSA in tulsa, Oklahoma. We use this video for training new hires on mass casualty response. The camera crews riding with these ambulance crews were making a Tv show on the day and life of first responders the day moore got hit. Most people have no idea what happen in the aftermath of a tornado. This video is a great watch to understand what it takes to triage a mass casualty incident.

That phrase was created by Thomas Jefferson when he campaigned against John Adams for president. The US, a new nation, had been paying the Barbary pirates one-sixth of the US finances. George Washington built the navy to deal with the pirates, but his successor John Adams decided to continue to pay tribute. It was Thomas Jefferson as oresident who had the US Navy and Marines to deal with the pirates permanently.

My father was in the Navy in WWII and Korea; receiving the Purple Heart; being wounded 4 times. Two sons and a daughter in law were career Navy. Two of them serving 20 years and one serving 17 years; dying of a brain tumor while on active duty. My husband was also career Air Force serving 20 years and my brother in law Air Force serving 22 years. A granddaughter served two tours in the Middle East and an Uncle served 33 years in the Army. I think it's in our blood.

Air or water? Keep in mind America has the number 1 airforce in the world. Our navy has the number 2 airforce in the world.
I am glad you watched this because it shows that our goals are not to just destroy those who challenge us. We really do try non fatal options first and we do try to educate others in taking care of their own areas also. It would be so easy to just take out the pirate boats, but our goal is to stop the crime and not destroy the people.

It's an example of the old saying "Don't mess with America's boats"
From it's early history through today, the US has consistently applied maximum "freedom" to any who has attacked a US Military or Trading vessel.
It is not so much to make them regret their actions, rather as a very clear message to anyone who witnesses the smoking wasteland that used to be the offender.

The main reason for the non-lethal deterrent system, is more to safeguard any hostages that might be taken, plus the navies are required to help "anyone" who is stranded at sea. I was navy in 1980's, s my ship was off the coast of Beirut during the hostilities, as well as when Cuba invaded Granada. My ship USS Guam LPH9 was part of salvage operations for the Challenger shuttle Debrie

A commercial ship has the smallest crew they can get away with to save money. This makes it easier for pirates to take them over. Any warship is going to have more crew on board than the pirates can handle. That is, of course, ignoring the fact that warships are armed and civilian ships normally are not.

    Naval Fighter Pilots.
    Etc.
And what about that Space Force, huh? (I am old, & still chuckle about this being a new branch of the US military).
And we have amazing ground forces.
And military intelligence, including HIGHLY trained people who go into the most perilous situations, can be in the field for weeks, gathering intelligence.
And then there are many thousands of highly educated & experienced men & women in the private sector (not government employees) who do research & development for the most advanced systems

I know, I know! Well, I suspect, because our son can't disclose any information.
He was in the US Navy for almost 10 years.
Been a veteran for a number of years, now.
He was in the Submarine Service.
And, yes, I am incredibly proud.
He's also a darn nice guy.
He ran the nuclear power plant on a submarine.
Extremely difficult to be accepted into Nuclear Power School. And almost as difficult to be accepted into the Submarine Service.
The adventures he could share were about the shore stops they had. First phone call from overseas was, "Hi, Mom, do you know how to make sangria?" That was our son. ❤❤❤ He'd been at the base in Rota, Spain, described a beautiful beach, sangria, etc. I think Bahrain was next.
He can never tell us anything about the actual missions they completed.
My husband could teach history, world geography, military history. Those are among his "hobbies."
ANYWAY, André, something I learned that is public knowledge is that all aircraft carriers are NEVER "alone"!!! ALWAYS smaller surface ships & many submarines are part of what I think is called a carrier group?
My son's class of submarine was the Los Angeles Class. Smaller type of sub, just over 100 sailors (exact # not public info) & they are capable of "silent running." Crew doesn't speak, only commands & necessary info softly whispered, NO other talk! Etc. This is only under certain conditions. Don't ask me what!
They DO have defensive weapons, torpedoes, etc., but not heavily armed like the big boomers.
Look up what the big subs can do. Carry SEAL teams, advanced equipment, fire missiles, I don't even know.
Proud Mom of a US Navy vet. Proud wife of an Army vet.
Very proud "little sister" of a Vietnam War veteran who served in the Army. My Daddy served in WW2.
And on my husband's side, way too much military service to list. Including great grandfather in the Civil War.
    Pretty crazy, huh?

    • @ywainleonis2035
      @ywainleonis2035 4 месяца назад +1

Loved your comment. For additional context, the Los Angeles Class is an attack sub, basically a hunter/killer. The USS Dallas in "The Hunt for Red October" is a perfect example.

    • @pamabernathy8728
      @pamabernathy8728 4 месяца назад +1

@@ywainleonis2035 Well, I read the book, "Hunt for Red October", at least twice. Saw the movie about 4 times!
You know what I fume about?? Due to a last minute, "Needs of the Navy, Sir," our son's response when asked how he felt when told, as he was ready to graduate from Power School: "Petty Officer A, due to an urgent need for a Nuclear Power Engineer on the Oklahoma City [the sailors had a much more rude nickname for the sub, rhymes with the name, I shan't repeat it 😮], your 30 day leave [first long leave in 2.5 years, on the opposite coast from family & friends] is cancelled. You will pack all your belongings & drive to Virginia the day after graduation. And your 1st duty station was slated for San Diego, CA [a few hours drive from family & friends] is on the Oklahoma City."
My son was a good, stoic sailor.
Until he got to a pay phone.
He called me in years of OUTRAGE.
I was a VERY sad Mom for a long time.
I was the one who told him, when he was 19 & realized the benefits of military service, then saw the brochure for the Nuclear Power Program & knew he wanted to do it, that once he took the oath, the Navy essentially "owned" him.
I know our members of the military can & do leave before there service time is over.
Under a few, very specific circumstances.
Our eldest son was highly unlikely to succumb to any of those circumstances.
Lives in Ohio now, with our wonderful daughter-in-law.
Has worked at the local power plant near Lake Erie -- talk about a gorgeous area, where they bought their home -- & is now an instructor both at the plant & at the community college.
He is such a good guy.
For him, the Navy gave him the realization that he can achieve whatever he sets his sights on.
He was directionless, in community college & working part time, but had no idea what he wanted to do in life. We never pushed him to decide.
Our faith in God gave us confidence that he would find his way. Outcome has been unexpected & fantastic.
      Blessings.

Somewhere I read/ heard that a major reason why non-lethal deterrents are used is because of the Suez Canal; it's a very big no-no to carry military weaponry through the Canal. Most of those boats in the area are using the Canal. If I'm wrong, please correct me. (I still think it's pretty cool that non-lethal deterrents are used!)

I served in the US navy from '82 to '88 as an electronics tech specializing in communications. I served on the destroyer USS Spruance (DD-963), and as an instructor in Electronics Class A school. Even back in the 80's the US Navy was unquestioningly powerful. We had no fear of the Soviet navy at all. In fact, we enjoyed messing with them every chance we got. The Soviets banned rock and roll music. Whenever we would discover a frequency that they were operating radio communications on, we would jam them with rock music. It was always good for a laugh. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

  • @mechanicalbow

2 things 1) To answer your question. America for better or worse is an expeditionary force. We have to be extremely capable in deep ocean warfare and air superiority. If we cant get our aircraft where they need to be and maintain supply lines we fail. If we cant secure air supercity once we get there then we would be beat back and fail. This is why the world want nukes or constantly threatens to use theirs. They cannot beat the US otherwise. Our government spending the same way the Soviets did during the cold war is our current greatest threat.
    2) I had a family member by marriage who made a small fortune fighting these types of pirates. This was before they tried this nonlethal deterrents and collaboration of nations bit. The videos he had, the stories he told and his behavior in general convinced me by description and depiction it was a brutal sea warfare carried out by psychotic people on both sides. One side is obviously the aggressor but that only lead to the constant arms and acts of depravity race. Im glad they are trying to get a handle on this stuff now.

The young sailors on the US Navy ship don't want to shoot at starving men attacking ships, but you can't let the pirates kill people to extort money. And it's always best to teach people to defend themselves so we don't get drawn into a nasty situation that we really have no business in. If the ships can get all their employees into a room the pirates can't get into, we don't need to send our men into harms way to save that ship. These are desperate people, which is shown by an attack on a ship armed to the gills. Mainly just very sad.

You might be interested in reacting to the Fat Electrician's video on the creation of the US Navy and Marines. The US Navy was created specifically by George Washington to fight against the Barbary pirates. However, it was Thomas Jefferson who used the navy and the first marines to go against the Barbary pirates.
The Barbary pirates were supported by the Ottoman Empire and the European nations paid them tribute to protect their ships. The Barbary pirates were notorious for enslaving Europeans in barbaric conditions. It was the US, a small new nation, who ended the Barbary pirates.

While the US air force is decades ahead of any other country, the fact that we have more carriers that the rest of the world combined, and these carriers operate the most advanced jets in the world, the F-35C, and the fact that the Marine corps belong to the navy, I would have to say that the navy is even more overpowered than the air force, which is absurd.

19:05 - That question is worded poorly. If we're talking about a major engagement, then most of our offensive power will be from our carrier based aircraft and the missiles fired from the rest of the task force. The only weapon we have that isn't airborne is the torpedo which is hardly ever used anymore. As an American, I would say that our Navy is more dominant compared to the rest of the world (though China is definitely catching up), but our air-force is generally more advanced. It's easier to upgrade or replace aircraft than war-ships after all. It's hard to say which better because it depends on what, or whom, we're comparing to.

The modern US Navy is being very polite to those pirates, as compared to what they did to pirates back during the Barbary Wars. As the Barbary pirates became the primary focus for the entire US Navy at the time, and led to the US Navy and Marines becoming what they are today. And of course The Fat Electrician has a video on it: ruclips.net/video/lcJhmm3D3OY/видео.html&pp=ygUMYmFyYmFyeSB3YXJz

In order to minimize the amount of area which needs to be patrolled why don't they just have all shipping follow a designated route? So long as they stay on track then the rest of the ocean doesn't need to be patrolled.

We do have an amazing Navy, but owning the air owns everything on both the sea and the land. Also, we get a hundred times more real world activity with the Air force then we do with the Navy. Its just a much more capable and refined system.
They both have their part and do it very well.

If the stats haven't changed. I believe the US Airforce is the largest military aircraft fleet in the world and the US Navy is the 2nd so since the Navy does more than dabble in aircraft as well, I'm not sure you can really compare the two the way you're trying to.

51 Have you seen the movie CAPT. PHILIPS starring Tom Hanks? It is about a true story of a US merchant ship attacked by pirates. The captain was captured and the US Navy came to the rescue. Would like to see you react to it.
My guess is navy over air force because the navy has its own air capability as well as ocean. This was my husband's thought also even though he served 26 years in the US Air Force.

9:58 PM: Another great Tom Hanks navy movie is Greyhound. He captains a WWII destroyer escorting merchant marine ships. My Dad was a gunner on a destroyer that escorted merchant marine ships…very dangerous work. Over a 1,000 merchant marine ships were sunk in WWII. Great movie. I was on the edge of my seat watching it.

I won't argue which Is more powerful, however the Navy is the most versatile. They not only bring ships and their own Air Force, remember the Marines and Seals are part of the Navy. So if you need rapid multifunctional and reaction to a situation, you call the Navy. They bring a lot of pretty nasty stuff to the party. I guess I will say the Navy is the most powerful of all branches, they bring it all without support (at least initially) after that you need the big specialists, ie the Army and Air Force

I think you are correct in one respect when comparing the US Navy to the US Air Force: Our Air Force is probably at least equitable to all other's air forces combines, not counting stealth. I feel safe saying about twice with our stealth capabilities included. The US Navy, on the other hand, is about 10-times everyone else's naval power combined. Comparatively, the US rules the seas. The kicker is this: add the US Navy air power to the US Air Force air power and the US owns the air too. God bless the USA!

The reason we get so much pirates is because of Japanese and Chinese dreg fishing. They striped the floor of the ocean of Somalia tearing up the Ocean floor so the local fishman don't have any why to feed their family except piracy
