    Rose Red Homestead shows how to make these and put several in brown paper bags to carry on in her car and truck for trips and camping. Dollar Tree has small boxes of that style of hash browns, Homestead Corner buys them there. I prefer the Great Value brand of frozen hash browns. They pour out of the bag very easily compared to the name brand that I bought.

    Great for anyone to make, prepare, and visit with an elderly friend that may need a little TLC. What an awesome treat for them if you took it, visited while they ate, washed up after, and put the extra helping in a bowl for lunch the next day. Even someone that is going in for 'treatment' that exhausts them would appreciate the kindness this would bring. Terrific video!

    Before I met my husband, I ate Spaghettios and Raviloi, or creamed corn with toast broken up in it. Those and generic soups, of course. On a fixed income, $430 dollars for two months of the year, October and November and Food Stamps. Had to spend money to go to the bank in Ambler by bus to pick up the paper Food Stamps way back when. It cost $4.50 to get there and to the store and back home. Thank goodness for the Access card, which didn't come out until 1999, by which time I had met my husband and we were living in Norristown, Pa. He's gone on to glory and I'm living with my nephew in Philadelphia, Pa.

    I’m a recent widow used to fixing pretty fantastic larger meals, so I’ll be going out on a limb and try these, Vicki. They look quire good and will help me learn how to pare down when my son isn’t here to share meals with his mama. Thanks for great ideas. Anxious to give this a go. I’m hoping to be able to substitute my own dehydrated foods for the pricier Thrive Life brand. Thanks for not pushing that when so many of us on limited incomes can’t afford the other.You are a great teacher...slow enough for me-to write as you talk. I appreciate that. You seem so caring and kind. Blessings... jo

      I am sorry for your loss. It must be very hard learning to do things differently. Absolutely do what works for you! Freeze dried foods are great, but they are definitely more expensive, especially if you have your own dehydrated food. You will need to adjust the rehydrate and cook times, but it will work fine. Good luck, and please let me know if you have questions, and also let me know how they turn out! Blessings!

Most of the time I do not feel like cooking because I am hurting. This is perfect for me. It's a life saver. I’m very intrigued with dehydrated/freeze dried foods. I have a dehydrator that I only got to try twice, and I don’t think I did it correctly-I did it according to the chart that came with the machine and it didn’t work out right! I’m a beginner to all of this; I have plenty of canned goods including mess as to, but I think your way is the better way to go! This video was wonderful; I would love to see more! Ty so much, and I’m also a new subscriber. I really want to get into canning, but I’m on SSI & Food Stamps, so I have to buy things here and there. I just bought a funnel for canning, and a box of lids while they were there and I had the funds! At the same time, I’m trying to get into homeopathic remedies/medicine and growing my own plants in containers, as I live in an apartment. I’m also alone. God will surely bless you for the info you share!

      @VickiesCountryHome  6 лет назад

      Depending on the recipe, you will either rehydrate/refresh ingredients first, or cook in liquid to rehydrate (like beef stew). The finished product should be very similar to cooking from scratch.

    Vickie, I finally had all the ingredients necessary to try the chicken alfredo. It turned out great. I did add parmesan to the sauce rather than just garnishing with it which made it a little salty, but, believe me when I tell you that I look forward to the leftovers tomorrow evening! That sounds super. Can't wait for that! Here's a request for a Texas girl: Years ago I bought a carne asado seasoning. Yes, a seasoning, NOT a marinade. I love it but the company that made it has gone out of business so I can't get more. Think you could conjure that up? Here is the ingredient list from my last jar: Salt, sugar, chili pepper, "spices", dehydrated onion, dehydrated garlic, and citric acid probably as a preservative. That "spices" thing has me mystified, LOL. That is the complete list, in the order given.........There IS a recipe on the internet, I think from Epicurious, but it makes like a pound and a half of the stuff! It calls for things like 1/2 c garlic and 1 c chili powder. I don't even OWN 1 c chili powder!

    Vickie, you are so sweet to do this for your daughter! You are such a joy to watch and I really like how you explain everything. I was trying to look at the Thrive and my computer was going too slow. I will check before the sale ends through your site. I appreciate that you explained the vacuum sealing and oxygen absorbers. I still have to do my Thanksgiving prep but I will probably wait until tomorrow. My Dad took care of all the meat already so I just have a dessert and a side. I might bring some homemade rolls. I love that you shared this video. It is always nice to spend time with you in your kitchen. Are you doing the whip it up Wed. this week. I did not know if I should go ahead and do that. I need all the help I can get for views. And it is alot of fun. I have been buying stock with salt in it because my Walmart has been out of unsalted. I have been trying to lower my sodium intake because I have been having trouble with swelling. It is not from salt but anything I can do to help I will. Sorry for this long comment I am feeling too chatty today. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!----------Tressa Daigle

    BTW, you are such a good Mother to do this for your daughter. Please show us some cooking videos with the ingredients you bottled up. I want to get started with thrive , but it will have to wait till the first of the year. Till then i've been looking at videos for ideas using thrive. Linda's pantry has been a big help also with showing recipes. I will definitely make all of these you just shown. It would be great to see the finished results for us newbies. Everything just sounds so darn good.

      Thank you! Shana said that she is loving these. She usually gets 2 meals from each, and so far her favorite is the yellow rice with chicken. I will try to make some of these up soon.

    I use unbleached flour and whole wheat flour in baking bread. I use 1/4 cup of wheat in each cup of unbleached flour. 3/4 cup unbleached flour and 1/4 cup of wheat flour in making cakes from scratch too. They'll never know.
    I have used a Crockpot to make meals, did you know that noodles and pasta will cook in a sauce in about 15-20 minutes? Works great, so will rice, I buy Knoor side dishes and eat them for lunch or dinner. Hamburger Helper type meals can be made without all of the salt and chemicals they add. I had a mini Crockpot and everything cooked in less than 20 minutes. The microwave broke yesterday so I'll be using the Crockpot we have for delish meals until my nephew buys a new one. God bless you and your family.

    Thanks so much. I’m going to make some of these for my grandson in college. How about some potato soup with cheese & ham bits? Do they make freeze dried ham?

    • @VickiesCountryHome
      @VickiesCountryHome  3 года назад

      Yes! Although freeze dried ham usually doesn’t have as long a shelf life, they do make it. It should be fine for this use.

    I really like long term freeze dried food storage and I'm trying to incorporate it into our everyday meals. Recipes would be appreciated!
    I'm on a low carb, no sugar eating plan because of type 2 diabetes. Eggs, meat and high fiber veggies are foundational ingredients. No grains, high starch veggies either. It can be a challenge.
    Great video, thanks for posting.

    Happy thanksgiving. Sounds yummy.
    Hint (if you moved the jars you are filling to your right we could see what it looks like as you fill. As is all we are seeing is part of the funnel)

    I enjoyed your video. I followed along with the alfredo recipe, and I saw where you reconstituted the Al Fredo sauce and the pasta, but I didn't catch what to do with the Chicken, Mushrooms and peas.

    It’s very interesting these meal peeps and with freeze dried great idea... ra specially for young busy people on go but what’s the total cost and nutrients lost in freeze dried process

    • @VickiesCountryHome
      @VickiesCountryHome  6 лет назад +1

      From what I understand, the freeze dried foods are flash frozen very shortly after harvest. I am told that as long as they are stored properly there is very little nutrient loss. The cost will. Be higher of course, as the processing requires time, manpower, energy, and then packaging. Is it for everyday use? Probably not for most of us, but it does have it's time and place.

      Vicki, check the Thrive site's..."tale of two Bananas"...
      Fresher-than-Fresh
      lrobbins.thrivelife.com/files/materials/Flyer-Fresher-than-Fresh.pdf
      Most Thrive Food likely has MORE nutrients than what is purchased "fresh" in the grocery store! Fruits and Veggies gain the most nutrients their last few days of ripening. Store bought food is picked BEFORE those crucial ripening days, and often gassed to ripen off the vine. Then there's the days it can take before reaching the store. Thrive allows them to ripen on the vine, then flash freezes theirs within HOURS of picking.

    Happy Thanksgiving! Vickie, on the breakfast potato one, how would you rehydrate all of the potatoes and such? with water? then add to a skillet to warm them up with some butter? thank you for the ideas!

    • @VickiesCountryHome
      @VickiesCountryHome  6 лет назад +2

      Probably left that out in my rush to get finished before we left yesterday afternoon. Yes, I would add very hot water, a little over the level of the hash brown/meat mixture. Cover and let sit for about 15 minutes. Then fry up in some oil/butter/ or my favorite, bacon grease.

    Great idea.... but for a temp meal, I think I'd make a pot of beef stew and can it and send it ready made! I'd save the freeze dried food for long term storage. But... thumbs up for the video and idea.
