Wind barbs are actually counter-intuitive because if you can instinctively think they are like a wind-sock where the dot is an anchor point which would be make the wind coming from the opposite side of where the barb or "feather" is rather than from where the barb/feather actually is. This is why vectors with an arrow is much easier. But as a memory item just think of the barbs/feather line as the same arrow with the dot being the arrow point (and therefore NOT like a wind-sock, but exactly opposite).
Every thing in aviation and aviation weather is not intuitive. For instance. GFA. Graphical Area Forecast. GFA. gFa GfA. It is intentionally hard to keep stupid people out of the pool.
