No question, the most complex and expensive single "rig" I've ever seen. This guy must have a brain like a steel trap to keep track of it.Also explains the tech of age and experience.Crazy.
If you guys can at Premier Guitar, try to catch a band called Cult of Luna. They're doing a US tour starting September 1st in New York, then from then to the 9th in Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and West Hollywood, respectively. They're an awesome band, very unique, three guitarists and a bassist, so they have a lot of gear to check out. :)
+Cody Kleinsmith If they toured the US (we know, the Stones hit the States this spring but we were unable to secure a shoot), we would try our best to make it happen just like we did with Queen's Brian May.

+Jackal Fox PLEASE do a Cult of Luna Rig Rundown.... just PLEASE - Neurosis next if possible, then Refused. If these happen you will have made one man REALLY happy.....
+Bleargh Bleorgh (like a $10,000 gibson acoustic) "uhh this is my guitar that has a bunch of hearts and my name on it i dont really know what its called"
Can anyone put a price on this rig? I'm thinking $30K on the guitars alone (the ones we see). Always amazed at how musicians afford their arsenal. Sure, Carl is a member of a band that does pretty well, but I'd be willing to be he had half these axes before he was a member of MMJ.
In his early days with MMJ he only had the black Les Paul that he references as his #1 here. I think he added the P90 gold top around the time of Okonokos, which is when they really started breaking nationally. After that Evil Urges was nominated for a Grammy and they started playing huge festivals. That’s when the Duesenbergs and more Gibsons started showing up. I’m sure he didn’t have any problem affording them by that point, plus when you start playing stages that big in front of TV cameras gear manufacturers are more than happy to give you their stuff to play for free just for the advertising. Plus it’s all tax deductible as a business expense, which at that point makes gear about 40% cheaper.
Nice run-down by Carl. The interviewer obviously hasn't seen MMJ or Carl play live (or even know who he is) and is trying too hard. He's too spazzy for Carl's chill demeanor.
+Eric SHarma Perry cut his teeth touring and playing in punk rock and hardcore bands, before he got his start in film. He worked his way up from lowly production assistant to become a producer, art director, and most recently, a music video director nominated for ACM, CMT, and CMA awards. Premier Guitar was a perfect fit for him, combining his two favorite things, guitars and cameras.
the interviewer is disruptive and has a poor grasp of the English Language. It's ok to be a little "rock n roll" but at the end of the day there needs to be a sense that you are professional and credible.. Just a point of advice: Narrow down the number of times you say "dude" and "cool" by 50% and I'd give this interview a solid 2/10.
I dig the Liftons for the shroud and history, yea. The chainsaw cases were bulletproof though. Great for touring. The story in this vid of a Les Paul falling out of the back of a truck is a good example and not the first I've heard involving the chainsaw cases saving somebody's ass.
+Endezeichen Grimm I'm pretty sure it's a Duesenberg Starplayer. Perry did say, "It's a Duesy" which was the nickname of the old Duesenberg car manufacturer (and the namesake of the guitar brand), but you're right. He should have been more clear.
One of the most versatile guitar players in the recent years

If we could have only included J.James guitars/gear as well. But thank you for this, been waiting a long long time
You guys should do Jim James, too +Premier Guitar
Awesome to watch such an enthustiastic interviewer. Great stuff,
Gotta love that guy's upward inflection when he speaks.

Wow, those guitars.... I am drooling...
A very classy rig.
Awesome rundown!
That's one busy musician! Impressive kit, all around.
GOTCHA!
Where is Jim James rig??
snickylicky heaven
Do you guys think you will ever do like a Rolling Stones (Ronnie and Keith), or Eric Clapton Rig Rundown?
+Cody Kleinsmith If they toured the US (we know, the Stones hit the States this spring but we were unable to secure a shoot), we would try our best to make it happen just like we did with Queen's Brian May.
Cool! Hopefully someday,Thanks!

New to My Morning Jacket, so far "I'm Amazed" is my go to. Does anyone know the song title at 0:00?
yup! It's "Compound Fracture" off their latest album, Waterfall. "I'm Amazed" is great - MMJ is the best :)
The Way That He Sings is mine. But so many great songs
Daniel TheGigRig Daniel, you guys see the G2 on Carl's setup?
Do a rig rundown with a day to remember please !! thanks
"I leave this guitar in Eb... for songs that are in Eb." some serious insight right there, boys.
Rig rundown rocks. Rrr
Had no idea Owen Wilson played in this band.
Oh, yeah, man,- and there's a guy that looks vaguely like Brad Pitt from a alternate reality on drums.
The interviewer usually is fine... Could be just me, but he seemed to be a bit disruptive when Carl was explaining things.
I guess he had a tinder hookup date just after so he was in a bit of a hurry
truce11 This particular interviewer has a tendency to do that. It's very, very annoying.
+truce11 "hanging in there..." Cringe...
+truce11 Gotcha
+truce11 I thought he did ok! Yeah he talks fast as hell, but that is partially enthusiasm.
You guys should tell Carl about the Biyang reverb and delays. BEAUTIFUL SATURATION!
Please do a Justin Bieber rundown next, guys.
+Bleargh Bleorgh (like a $10,000 gibson acoustic) "uhh this is my guitar that has a bunch of hearts and my name on it i dont really know what its called"
Yes please
3:16 NOOICE!
Cool gear.
Where can i buy a dusenberg 12 string?
Oh my word.. Soo many pedals :D
Does anyone know how his pedal steel levers are setup?

Whats the black box thing hanging off the far right ampeg amp?
I wonder what cables is he using?
Impressive. A very busy guy.

16:22 "I just sold my soul"
Presenting the Gotcha Boy, gotcha?!
no one solos like carl.
I've seen more POGs on boards than any other pedal
I don't know why people are hating. These guys are just talking.
Gigrig g2 = awesome. Have one myself
Yeah, that's on my list.
“Got cha”
ooh gotcha
Song?

My morning jacket.... I just got it. It’s from Blink 182. Jack It.
In the morning I jacket
Did he say "noyce?'
interviewer seems like he's skiing
Dude sounds exactly like Stephen malkmus
11:46 Kim Jong Un modeled N Korea's entire missile program on this pedal display. Except he forgot to label them.
3:40 the dude is Owen Wilson lol
That dude must be BUSY live!!
jim?
This host is trying way too hard to be Cool.
+Eric SHarma Truth. Haha

He needs to tone it back a little and stop interrupting. In here to listen to the quest, not rolled-up sleeves McBeard
Eric Sharma. I disagree, I think you are.

he has a lot going on to handle :)
Gibson needs to make those chainsaw cases again.
Uh....no. The brown liftons are where it's at.

Mark McIntyre!!! Check this out.
The band from American Dad
Now that's how you yell at a guitar tech!
what happened to plug and play? jesus...
Effects are fun , especially when the song desires it , that's what happened , there not ac/dc
Guitar players are always going on about tone. Well why limit your range of tones to what a simple guitar + fuzzbox can make?
Gotcha's Rig Rundowns. Ask question and start talking siht after 10 seconds.... Rebbecca was way better.
2:00 What is that guitar? What brand?
This is not very informative. The interviewer should at least ask about that shit! For fucks sake!

I was able to figure it out, but a young cat watching this, would have no idea.Alex Stewart
Do a rig rundown for Ed Sheeran
Perry is cool.
Ridiculous amount of gear. Like a Little kid presenting his Gorky-toys. REAL musicians do not play with toysssss.
You're a fool!
Real musicians don't use electricity. Real musicians limit their creativity.
is he playing music or playing electronic stuff?too much pedals.
