Is these exercise for both legs?
I'm so done with this sh*t. This is the second time I've torn my ACL and this time it's on the other knee. The extension is much harder to regain back this time. I've got a year to wait for surgery and then another year of rehab. It's extremely difficult for me to put the effort in again for this long painful process. Thanks for your info though, it's really helpful just gotta find the will to begin and go through this process again
You got this man, make sure to come back stronger
omg i had it in one leg and i can say it's hell
get well soon
I hope you get better I did the same had the same reoccurring problem it turns out I needed osteomy in both legs. It might be something to look into also or ask about.
Good luck I understand the frustration
Arriba hermano, no desfallecer! Animo!
Hope It goes well dude
Just how it should be explained. Thanks! And to all of you going through a knee rehab… you got this, you’re not alone!
Best explained rehab advice I have found. My PT is too busy to explain the rationale behind exercises, but it helps tremendously when you understand WHY you're doing what you're doing. It also helps you to build on your understanding of your own body. You are providing an exceptionally valuable educational service. Thanks so much.
These are very good advice! The method is easy and fit to our every day's life. Thank you so much.
Loved the recap at the end.Wish all videos had them .Thank yoy
Thank you so much for your content! Definitely helps! I’m 3 weeks post op and looking at ways on how to continue improving, this helps a ton!
Wow love this. Ive been doing a lot of it the wrong way. Too much weight on my knee would often leave me in pain trying to gain extension. Less for longer. Thanks!
Thanks for the essential video on knee extension .
Thank you for a valuable educational video.
I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the video
Thanks for the advice doc ☮️
Thank you for sharing this with us 🤲🏾❤️💪🏿
Thanks for your valuable information

I have ACL and meniscus ligament tear its been 4 months and i have achieved ony 90° knee bending now after watching this vidoe it really helped me thank you sir ❤
Thanks a lot!!
I loved it great exercise 🐉
Thank you so much
This is so nicely done. I'm so afraid it'll never get straight. Had all surgery 20 years ago, always had a slight bend post PT. Now after meniscus surgery trying to train this knee to straighten 😫
Another great video! 👊👊
Thank you!
Thank you bro😊
Thank you also so much
Great tutorial.
Thank you!
Thank u so much
Great video as always. Could you do a similar video for improving knee Flexion?
Are there any other exercises you recommend for strengthening (without surgery)?
please make a video for supraspinatus tendinosis, thanks
Thanks!
Thank you!
please, review for shoulders that are 1 down and 1 up
Thanks for the content. I’m going through rehabilitation with my knee atm as I torn my ACL and had surgery. I’m currently 7 months now and I wake up everyday to a stiff knee and I struggle to fully straighten out my knee. I’m currently doing loads of cycling at the gym and some exercises to help with knee.
Hey is your knee is completely straight after doing this
I can get my knee straight but I’ve still got a bit of swelling which unables me to fully straighten it
I am 10 weeks post acl reconstruction and meniscus repair
Struggling with achieving full extension….
How much did you take to achieve?
@@kaival5 well I’ve not fully recovered yet and still doing rehab 11 months after surgery. I’ve still got swelling on my knee which I’m using a hot & cold pack to reduce swelling.
@@LI-sn8xt ohh sorry to hear that
I still have swelling too
Any reason why you have swelling till now.?
Has your surgeon discussed you regarding
Scar tissue development?
I tore my mcl tryna heal it with PT. Believe in miracles. Wishing u all healing !
PT means?
It has been 3.5 weeks post op and I have not yet achieved full knee extension. I was just reading through an article and found out that you should be able to gain full knee extension in 3 weeks. This made me scared and i searched on internet for exercises to achieve full knee extension and I am very glad I found out your video. Thank you so much ❤️
Hopefully it is not too late for to start doing these knee extension exercises seriously to get in ideal extension 🤞🤞
How did it go?
@@chrisparkhouse1 I have achieved full knee extension now. Currently I am working on strengthening my quads, I a able to fire my quads while I am sleeping but not when I am standing straight. In Range of motion I almost 10 cm away from touching my heels to hamstrings.
@@adwaitchavan6638plz help me I too underwent ACL tear reconstruction on 27th december 22 and can't lift my leg while laying down
Adwait please help..It's been 10 weeks of my surgery still ..while doing exercises my leg gets straight..but again it's bent for 4 degree..what should I do?
@Sagar K how much can you bend after 8 weeks?
I need to find that under desk foot rest!
It would be helpful if the retro walking was also shown in the video.
Very helpful video thank you! Is there a point in time when it becomes too late to obtain that full knee extension after surgery? Thank you!
Not necessarily, but it becomes more difficult as time passes
@@E3Rehab Good day. It's been 3 1/2 months since the accident happened that caused tibial plateau fracture of my left leg. My ortho doctor told me that the alignment is acceptable so we decided not to undergo surgery. I'm now allowed to put partial weight bearing with crutches. What can you advise for my leg and knee that have placed just straight with cast within 2 months and with knee immobilizer for 1 month?
6 days since my ACL Reconstruction, I am struggling to get full extension. This could be helpful, thanks!
Please keep me updated bro. I am in for my surgery next week and am nervous. How was the first few days? How was the pain? Be honest…
@@TopBoi93 3 weeks since my surgery, and I am very close to full knee extension, which is the most important goal of Phase I of recovery. I have about 80-90 degrees of ROM as well. By end of week 4, I should have full knee extension and 90. I can also walk without walker/crutches with knee brace on, though gait needs work.
As for the pain, it hurts like hell throughout the first 10 days, all day. After that, pain was restricted to only when I did physio or went to bed at night. Try to wean off the painkillers early, opioid addiction is not something you want.
The most irritating part for me has been the constant knee brace - I can't sleep with it. It feels like I'm being chained. I haven't had proper night's sleep for a while, now. I just doze off for 3 hour slots in the day. A lot is about managing it mentally. Can't wait till the brace is off and I walk unaided for Task 1 of this video.
@@TopBoi93 you won't feel much of pain due to painkillers prescribed by your doctor. The pain that will happen will be bearable. Don't worry about it.
@@TopBoi93it’ll ware off in about 2 days
Good
Hey I had surgery feb 9 ,2021 and I’m still at a 62 and it’s June can u help with any advice
At wich day post op can we start TKE with band? (Hamstrings GR-ST4 ALL-INSIDE technique)
What do you call that thing that the lady had under her computer desk where she kept her knee on top of? I need it too for my knee.
Thanks for amazing content. May I ask you after arthroscopic we can do knee isometric extension since I still have stitches? Many thanks
I'd discuss that with your surgeon or physical therapist.
Can this help with stiffness from arthritis?
I had a TLKR 6 weeks ago. Doing the chair stretch almost brings tears to my eyes, even a towel under my ankle laying flat for 2-5 minutes is very hard. Do I back off or just keep at it! It si my least favorite exercise. I have 122 flexion and 4 degrees extension.
Just had surgery of condroblastoma after bend knee for and insane pain for 2 years it looks impossible for me to straighten my knee what exercises should i do?
I had ACL surgery last year I already did rehab and now I do everything on my own. But I still deal with stiffness in my knee and I walk with a slight limp at times. Do you have any tips that I can get rid of the stiffness??
what the science say about knee valgus workouts?
Can I still be able to do these after almost 3 years? I didn’t get rehab after my knee surgery for an acl test and 2 minuscus because they said I was walking faster than they expected.
Hello I want to ask one thing
Is it possible to get back range of motion after 5 months of surgery as I have full range of motion while opening leg but while banding I don't get it 100 % kidny suggest me
I lost my knee extension due to chondromalacia patella, I am doing backward walking daily can I add these excercise also
Hi doctor I have a question please answer..it's a request 🙏🙏
I'm 16 right now and I had a minor fracture in my knee at the age of 12-13 and I noticed it now that I can't extend that knee Fully as much of my other knee
Can I perform this excercise now?? Please reply
After how many days of ACL surgery should I start trying to walk and not wearing the Knee Bress?
This may have already been asked as this was posted so long ago, but treadmill backwards walking - incline or no?
Had ACL surgery with a hamstring autograph 7.5 months ago. My uninvolved knee has hyperextension but I still have not achieved it in the involved knee. My PT said I would probably never gain it back. I want to train for a marathon which means a lot of running but am finding myself having knee pain even after one mile. I was discharged from PT at 5 months as I had hit my goals, and was able to run 2 miles again. But my pain persists. I frequently do exercises and stretches, icing and elevating as needed when it is swollen. I am frustrated and don’t know what to do.
Hey sooo i got surgery year ago and cuz of bad doctors and then not taking me serious phisyos i still cant walk normal and cant get my leg straight can you give me advice
By when should one regain full symmetrical extension? I am at 1 and my uninvolved knee is at 5. I'm 16 weeks in after ACL reconstruction.
I’ve had two ACL surgeries on my left knee and now my ROM is really bad. I was told that it is as good as it will be but I can’t even grab my foot to stretch my quad. Will these stretches help me?
What is preventing us from full leg extension? Is it scar tissue? Tight tendons or ligaments? What is the mechanical issue that we're trying to push through?
Hey its been 10 weeks since operation i cant have full extension can someone help me?😢
I’ve done an acl surgery but after the surgery my ligament has been extended to 0.81cm (the other leg is 0.50cm)
😊acl surgery is rough, had mine done about 7 weeks ago, can only straighten when iced, and still have a high amount of swelling, and was told to slow down on my exercises, I was doing to much, it’s a battle, some peoples body’s are definitely different
Where you an athlete prior to injury?

3 NICE SIMPLE EASY TO FOLLOW REHAB MOVES 😀😀😀🇬🇧🇬🇧
Check out knees over toes guy
I’ve injured my ACL and I’m attempting rehab without surgery. Are these exercises safe to start? It’s been 2 weeks since my injury occurred.
So my right leg goes to -10 (uninvolved) and I can stretch my left knee (involved) to about -5 passively. But when I contract it I get it to about -1 tops. I’m going into my 4th week post-op, is this something I should be concerned I don’t have more extension yet?
If I suture the meniscus, is the same method used?
Sir i have done my acl surgery on 10th February of 2023 ... I have some problem in extensions can you help me to repair plz
I am 2 weeks post meniscus surgery and working on extension, when I bend my knee or walk downstairs I get electric shocks up my quad... And then a burning sensation is this normal ?!
what if i have already 5 months after surgery and still lagging 5-10 degree these exercise will help ?
What is the PB Extreme roller thing under the desk? I tried to look it up online and couldn't figure out what it would be called.
www.performbetter.com/PB-Extreme-Single-Leg-Squat-Stand_2?gclid=CjwKCAjwuvmHBhAxEiwAWAYj-No3842gM9aBHNgFM-rhJmkg2UnwWFwpWXiw7O5JKU8yWpkw7MnewhoChuYQAvD_BwE
I’m gonna be picky here, when placing during TKE or Spanish squats, would you wanna place the band directly behind back crease of your knee? There’s nerves and vessels thst could get irritated if you place it differently there, would you want it slightly above?
My PT wants me to put it above the knee to put less stress on the ACL. If you put the band below the knee, it will tend to bring the tibia forward which stresses the ACL because it is the exact same motion that the ACL is meant to prevent.
I am about two months out of surgery and I still can’t fully straighten my knee without warming my knee up first.
How did you warm up your knee? I didn’t have surgery for my meniscus tear and I’m just doing therapy on my own and I can’t straighten my knee
Where did you get the padded knee extender that the lady in the video uses on the 3.30 Mark?
It's a split squat stand from perform better. Any object would do.
Do you have some time frame for different stages of rehab for ROM, STRENGTH, Function etc ?
That'll be dependent on the surgery and individual factors, but main priorities after most knee surgeries include regaining knee flexion and extension range of motion, normalizing gait, minimizing swelling (not by necessarily doing anything specific but just not over doing things), and regaining a good quad contraction.
@@E3Rehab thank you 😁
Are these good exercises to do before surgery (after initial injury)?
Yes
I am 22 and just had full acl repair, meniscus repair, and cartilage repair. Knee just gave out playing soccer pivoting too hard. I had surgery 2 and a half weeks ago and am starting PT next week. I am totally unable to bend my knee past 90 degrees, and getting it straight seems almost impossible at times. Do you think im at a decent stage in my recovery? I am getting better every day, but going bent past 90 degrees seems impossible to me and im really struggling.
Any update? I got my surgery next week. How was the pain after surgery during the first day up to a week?
How's you doing
how was recovery? I am in this situation now. I can't walk at all or put my knee straight :(. I just had surgery last week.
@@irenemielke1713 I’m so sorry to hear!! In the last year i have changed my entire life. Injuries and setbacks are the best character builders. Of course I wish it never happened but I made the best of it and that’s all one can do. God bless & good luck on your journey
Can you share some tips from your experience on how to improve knee bending (flexion) and regaining leg strength?
I am 2 years out from a cyclops lesion removal surgery after an initial ACLR 3 years ago. I restored some hyperextension in my involved knee since, but I still have a deficit, and consequently my gait still does not feel normal. Is it generally safe (and yes I will ask my PT/surgeon) to follow a program like this even though I am a couple years post-surgery?
Did you hear back from your PT/surgeon? I had ACL reconstruction 15 months ago and still do not have full range, also wondering if it'd be safe to do these at home at this stage.
@@nataliacoli2604 I did ask, and yes you can get more extension back later. I managed to get another degree or so doing knee extension exercises and passive holds at home.
@@ValjeanClark That's great! Thanks for the info. I will try to do the same =D
i cant even get my knee to the fully extended position without severe pain 8 weeks after arthroscopic surgery
While doing static quardricps strach my knee is cracking after three weeks of ACL surgery any problem sir plzz tell me
I had my surgery 5 months ago. Same thing, knee kept cracking. They said its normal, seems to be your patella not moving does it. Im able to run now with no problems and the cracking seemed to become less often.
Please help. I'm 14, almost 15. I had a ACL reconstruction around 2 years ago, when I was 13. I didn't do my stretches, so I couldn't get my knee straight. I had to have another surgery where they removed the scar tissue to allow me to get it straight and put a cast on. I sleep on my side with my knees bent, so I've recently bent it again. Despite persistent tendon massages and stretches, I can't get it straight. It's been a year since I got the tissue removed. Can the tissue regenerate? I'm really scared I might need another surgery.
How is it now?
While exercise i can extend and hyperextend my knee after acl surgery
But while walking cannot straighten it
How to fix this?
Do Hamstring Streches brother
I'm post month acl reconstruction , lateral meniscus and medial meniscus but when I put towel on my heel I feel pain in the side of my knee, is it possible that I re tear .
Any update? Any advice…
I learn better from your body, Dr. Marc.
I just had a knee surgery from a severely locked knee, and my knee is really bent. How to I get my knee straight when it's severely bent?
I haven't been able to walk for two plus months.
I am 10 weeks post op, and have been doing these and am still at -1. Is there anything else I can do to get it further ? My non injured leg can go -15.
How did it helped you did you gain full hyperextension?
@@infotainment9364 , once the swelling starts going away, it will slowly ease into more hyperextension. The key thing though is, the further out you are, the harder it is to add more range. So once you see the swelling go down, do longer periods of the stretches and add slightly more weight. Good luck! DONT FEEL DISCOURAGED AND QUIT. Worst thing you can do.
5 months post op right acl and I have yet been able to reach the same hyperextension on my left leg. I have full extension on the right leg but not symmetrical to the left. Idk what to do
Same here man, it is been 10 months at this point and I still feel like my right leg has more extension than the left leg, an update on your situation would be great
Thank you so much sir
it has been 9 weeks po acl.but not yet achived bending.what can i do

I just had surgery a week ago and the worst thing happened yesterday. When I stood up I lost vision and orientation and as I was trying to catch myself from falling I put all of my weight on the injured knee. I don't remember anything breaking or snaping inside the knee but I've lost a week worth of progress and the knee is in alot of pain for the last 12h. Will I be fine or did I mess everything up?
Edit: I had meniscus and front ACL surgery.
Same thing happened to me 3 times during the first week post op. My knee seems to be fine.

I had my acl reconstructed feb 2022 and I’m also struggling with knee extension. What helps is what’s noted in the video. Weights on the knee with it extended and it will come
How is your knee extension now?
Many thanks for the useful ACL videos. Does the exercise at 4:00 minutes aim to straighten the knee or stretch the hamstring? I’m at Day 7 following ACL and meniscus surgery and I can’t straighten my leg fully yet. Thanks.
Aims to get the knee back to that straight position, its more to strengthen the top of your knee, by the quad. Im 7 weeks post op from complete acl and meniscus tear and its not fun to say the least but, keep at it and youll be good💪
Who has these tables to exercise, I do my exercises on my bed!!
I’m 5 weeks post acl surgery and I still have a little extension lag, is it too late for me to now get full extension?
