  • Part Two - • How To Crochet A Scrap...
    Hey everyone!
    In this video I will show you how to create your very own speckled scrap blanket. The scrap blanket is a great stash busting project that uses very little brain power. I love this project because it's so mindless and meditative - a great project to curl up on the couch with!
    As I'm making such a large blanket I was unable to finish it in this video, but keep an eye out for part 2 where I'll show you the finished product!
    Enjoy! :)

    I absolutely love scrapghans the last one I made my husband hijacked from me, it was done all in baby yarns, partial skeins, had partials in blues, pinks greens, some I can't even remember the names for, hubby fell in love with it, he got pneumonia last September, brought him home with hospice, he had his blanket in the hospital and used it til the day he passed 😢 glad I have it now for memories

    You could also make up a ball of dark yarns & a ball of light yarns & use them together for a different speckled look. Looks nice & cosy already.

    Very pretty. I am glad I am not the only one that joins yarn like you do. It is so easy and doesn't come undone. Some crocheters make joining much harder than it needs to be.

    I’ve been making these scrap afghans for years. As I crochet lots of blankets for charity giving, there are lots of yarn leftovers. Recently I discovered a joining method on RUclips called the Russian Join. It’s really a great way to join yarn as the waste is very, very minimal, you do not have to deal with tails at all and your join cannot be felt - it just disappears into your stitching.

    Also, I don't sew the ends in, I hate it as well! Such a tedious waste of time ugh, I started just crocheting over my color changes, if that makes sense?? Idk how to explain but it does away with the tails and is so much easier to work with instead of trying to get the ends woven into the project at the end. For me, especially when working blankets, by the time I'm done haha last thing I wanna do is mess with the ends. I just want to be done 😅
    Another also, I absolutely love watching your videos! You are so fun to listen to, and I relate very much to your whole "find what works for you" type of attitude. I find it hard to watch a lot of tutorials when they are seemingly snobby sounding or make one feel like one MUST DO IT THAT ONE WAY, it just takes the fun out of crochet. So thank you for the refreshing light hearted explanations 🥰

    Other then blanket you can also make a purse or bag. I made a round bag to carry my crochet projects in. I crochet a draw string on top to gather it closed on top and crochet shoulder straps. I received a lot of compliments on it. Not sure where it is now. That was year ago. I didn't put a liner in mine but should have to keep crochet hook from sticking out once in a while.

    I love this idea so much. Can I just ask if all the scrap yarns were different weights or were they all the same? I guess it would work best if they were the same weight.

    • @Katieree
      @Katieree  4 года назад +3

      Hey Olivia! I’m using a mixture of 8 ply and 10 ply yarns 😊 although it would definitely still work if there was some chunkier yarns in there too 💖

    I'd love to hear about making sure the rows don't lose stiches so the top and bottom are the same size, a problem I often encounter when I don't do a large granny square.

    • @Katieree
      @Katieree  3 года назад

      Hey Judy,
      The trick is to make sure you aren’t skipping any stitches at the beginning and end of the rows. I recommend counting your stitches at the end of each row to make sure you’re on the right track 😊

    Hiya! Sorry to bother you, but my hands are in pain and your hook looks comfy! 😍 Is it long enough so the bottom won't rub on my palm and what type is it? I have tried several from different stores and they KILL cuz they are too short! 😣 I hope they aren't expensive. 😥. Thanks! 😍😘

    You could start with a chain less hdc foundation row and then you wouldn't have to do a chain of the right length before starting your project

    Does it matter if they are different weights or textures? My mom had so much yarn would love to do this

    • @Katieree

    Im going to do this. I worry my edges won't be straight. So at the end I chain 2 and then begin again in the first stitch,

    If my blanket starts bowing like a rainbow, is that because I started too tight? Love the two color idea.

      Yes use a hook 1 size bigger for just chain row. Then use size you want throughout. Happy crocheting.
