This was my first Gibson, and the first nice thing I was ever able to buy for myself. I've since added more LPs to the collection, but this one? I still play every day.
I have the Satin finish of that very guitar and it is Great and love it!! With the burstbucker 3 in the bridge and the 2 in the neck. Rocks great and has beautiful cleans.
gsxerwhite I was very lucky in being able to get mine. And it does have the black pick guard. A very good friend with a connection helped me get straight from Gibson without the Retail markup.
Robert J Sounds like a sharp looking guitar. I've wanted one since I first saw one in a store in the early 90's. I was like 13 and I liked them because they didn't have binding and I thought the standards looked too gaudy for me, I was a metal head 😄 These days I'd be happy just to own an Epi LP.
Thank you Trogly for all the amazing videos over the past year +, I hope you have the most amazing new year coming... and I look forward to more videos!!! And if I am able to buy a guitar from you, you're my number one choice. Cheers!!!
When it comes to Gibson, they're at their best when the guitar is the most stripped down, you can't beat a good Jr, or Studio, the BFGs are REALLY good.
Thanks trogly you definitely help satisfy my curiosity about a lot of guitars and you do a great job producing these videos. I would suggest so it'd be cool to see some videos where you're actually using real guitar amps some basic Fender blackface or Marshalls. But well done. I got a phenomenal 2011 Les Paul Studio satin black that's just a killer guitar with that pickup set up in it
Mine is a 2016 Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded T Cherry. Out of all the Studio Faded series, I don't wanna sound biased but the 2016 are the best out of the bunch, up to this point. Bought it for $800 brand new @ Guitar Center. Worth every Penny!
I just got this exact model for xmas. I DO love the finish, since I'm a fender guy, and this is nothing but 3 tone sunburst. Also, I grabbed it off reverb, and the previous owner swapped the pickups for seymore duncans. Happy new year!
Love the part about "studios depreciate quickly" yes, you could buy one new , walk across the street to a pawn shop and they would give you 100 bucks for it.
Warped pickup rings (and warped plastics in general) usually end up that way because they weren't put into a jig to cool quickly enough or at all while the polymer was still hot. Things like a pickup ring will warp like hell at any point after being ejected from the tool (the mold) if not cooled in a jig of some kind that keeps it from doing just that
I was looking for info for this guitar and you sure filled the need. Your style and knowledge are second to none, keep up the great work and now you have to put up with me as a new subscriber. Darryl Hubbard Delhi Ontario Canada
Trogly, the Modern Weight Relief accommodates a long neck tenon. This Studio LP has a short neck tenon (pickup cavity at 4:35), it most likely has a Traditional Weight Relief, if any.
I was a fan of the 490/498 Series Gibson pickups, but yes, after playing a number of balanced Humbucker alternatives, they do have a tendency of sounding "muddy". Yes you get deep driving aggressive tones, but at the cost of almost all mids/highs.
I've met quite a few professional guitar players who use Les Paul Studios as their main guitars. Heck, even MCR's rhythm player used one (his was white with gold hardware)
Yeah, most studios come with the same pups as the Standards, LOL that 125th anniversary model uses the same pups as the Studio so I guess they must be pretty good huh? All of the studios I have owned have either had the 490 series or the 57 classics and I will take those over the burstbuckers any day of the week. My theory is that if you can buy the same guitar as a Standard but save yourself $1,000 why not do it? Sure, you don't get the binding, then again that's where a lot of the Gibson QC troubles have been in so are you really getting such a deal? Not all of the Studios are thinner either, I think I had one that was but the other ones were the same as a Standard.
Bought that used from guitar center for like $650. the previous owner had bought it new and traded it in after about a month. Very happy with the explorer I traded into!
Coil-split is terrible..wound up swapping pots and rewiring it 50’s style.(similar to treble bleed mod in effect but achieved by changing path to output) sounds way better than stock wiring imo..it’s a lot of fun. Given the price point of lp studios it’s no surprise Gibson recently chose to market the line to diy/mod projects in RUclips catalog.
Hey Trogly, I have a 2013 wine red cream and chrome studio. Having great respect for you knowledge and experience, I wondered if this era or year's studios are thought of as good (or well built rather/ respected). It plays and sounds great, so I may have got lucky or that year is a solid year to collect from. I Love your show and look forward to 2020. Happy New decade, good sir!
I 've heard a few 2013 studios and they really have a woody singing kind of tone, there's something unique about them. I understand they have the granadillo fretboards, that you can normally identify from a distance, don't know how much this would affect anything. I remember reading somewhere once that some guy was hearing this type of tone in other 2013 les pauls. Could have been the type of wood/ treatment/ storage of wood from that year.
Very Tempting. Especially for a Fender fan. Love the two color Burst & Split Coil Option. 🙄 I'm thinking round Tax Return time? 2/15/20ish. Me Wifey can't say anything since we split a 5g'ish return 😁 Ps: I'm sure it'll be sold by then? But I'll check your inventory first. Thank's for the info. Studio's seem in my budget? Happy 2020 🎉
I feel the same way trog! Even a new standard for the money you can find an older even better used standard if you look around. I personally like the 120th anniversary models too except for the pickup ring choices on the studios of that year but they can be easily changed out. Those are the newest LP's i like especially the maple neck versions. 120th and further back before the e-tune get better and better the further back you go. Although i did like the 2018 player plus models satin ocean blue. Some almost look grey, figured tops & p-90's or mini buckers. Very nice! Rock on!!
That thing is simply beautiful. Inspiring color. I love that burst!! And i'm a PRS / Kiesel die hard fan! EDITED: never mind, i wrote this before i saw all the defects. WTF, Gibson ! Please come back to the top where you belong!!!
I had the ebony 2016 les pauls studio and the electric interferance was absolutely awful, buzzing unless strings where grounded. ended up having to gut the whole thing and paint the inside with shielding paint. Now she is silent but needed a lot of work, the fretboard isn't as smooth as a gibson should be either, it's even chewed up on the sides in places.
I love the Fireburst finish I wish it was not weight relief with Burstbucker pro pickups I have a 2005 mahogany top Gibson LP studio with those pickups.
I have a 2015 Studio T WR, love it!. I noticed the pup rings spreading like that one. Seems to be a seasonal humidity thing on mine. They swell and shrink back.
Yo Trogly have you ever thought of checking a SG-Z idk if you have before but just saw one one Facebook looks like it'd make a good video for would you rock or not keep up the amazing work man I've learned so much from your videos since day one
Funny, because I got this model (2016 Studio T) in black and it sounds exactly opposite of muddy. I don`t know what it proves: tonewood, inconsistency in Gibson pickups production? or maybe it just proves that nobody changed the strings on yours since 2016?
Can I have it? I mean, you didn't miss it this whole time. You won't miss it if you let old Factory Bear have it. I'll pay you for shipping and put it to amazing use. I'll busk with it on the Las Vegas strip.
Nice I have one, got it for a song from bestbuy, it's mostly og except I changed the tuners for locking klusons, threw on a stringbutler and changed the stopbar for an aluminum one. actually hated how modern the bridge pickup sounded so threw a Dimarzio super distortion in there :3
There needs to be a larger variant range between the Studio Melody Maker and Junior. 2014 melody maker bodies are goals but ugh with the headstock area.. Looking to 🍑 flake a 2011MM SG Paint in the screwholes with shielding paint... Alternately don't play guitar naked in the rain.
Yo Trolgy! Love the videos. Any way saw a kinda cool guitar for sale. A fender Coronado II. Have you done a review on one of those? I had never seen one. Any info would be helpful. Have a nice day.
I like the tones well enough, but that finish, along with no binding and scratchplate, it just looks kind of dull. Like, you went LP shopping, but this was the one that was left and/or in your price range.
Sounded great until he hit it with distortion and then it got really muddy. Weighs too much for me. Gotta have under 8lbs. Always impressed with Austins transparency.
It's still there reverb.com/item/26325767-gibson-super-400-china-dragon-bruce-kunkel-custom-masterpiece-archtop-guitar?_aid=growsumo&gs_partner=Trogly and yes - I do have a video of it with video footage of it too. ruclips.net/video/vSgEd7jaVqc/видео.html
Boy oh boy! That guitar is, in my opinion, not only a little bit but way.to far over the top! The price tag is ok though for the work that had be done on it
Ok now hold the heck on - You can't justify $1500 for a brand new 2019 Les Paul Studio but yet it's OK to pay that same price for a 2019 LP Jr? Nahhh..anyone who would pay $1500 for a single pup, flat top Les Paul over a double pickup carved top Les Paul has some serious amount of brain cells missing!! That new Smokehouse finish is only available on the Studio and that is one gorgeous finish!! Essentially you are getting a Standard just without the extra fancy stuff as far as I am concerned and you are saving $1,000! Now sure, when you compare the prices of a used Studio to the prices of a used Standard you are not making a wise "investment" when you buy a Studio, but I don't usually buy guitars as an investment lol. Plus if you wait until the end of the year a lot of times you can get a new Studio for around the $1300 mark or less.
@@bobbywhitewolf Yup, you can buy some really great equipment online really cheap or at least at a good price. That's partly why I am getting annoyed with Reverb, it just seems it's become more for dealers selling than just regular people. Now, I don't have a huge issue buying from a dealer if they are willing to negotiate but like that video Austin put up a few weeks ago where he went to that local shop and got that bass for that guy. That dealer was not willing to deal with the online buyer like he was with an in person buyer. Plus dealers usually are trying to get top dollar which then sets the prices high across the board because now when you see how this or that model has been selling on Reverb so you kind of get an idea where your price should be set at the prices are higher. Of course there are still some good deals to be found on Reverb, if you want to spend hours and days and weeks looking for that "one" to pop up.
Ron Just Ron it sucks because reverb charges a percentage... so dealers make deals in person because they have leeway. They don’t have a lot of leeway on Reverb.
@@bobbywhitewolf yeah I have purchased several guitars and other equipment from dealers on reverb without going through reverb. If you can get a dealer to do that it saves both you and the dealer some money. For me it saves me from having to pay taxes.
Is the plan to sell all these at some point? If so, may I call dibs on any ‘69/‘70 Gibson SG Standards you may be willing to part with…? preferably one someone has already removed the long vibrola tailpiece and pickup covers from, maybe with nickel or chrome tuner buttons rather than pearloid ones, hopefully making it a little more affordable than one in “mint” condition?
hopefully you see this message, quick question. Of the gibsons in current line up, do any have a chunky neck? From looking up I feel they mostly all have similar neck sizes but im a huge fan of a thicker neck and looking for a les paul with one. Thanks in advanced.
I respect the fact that you can forget that you have a Gibson Les Paul lmao
if that happens to you, it means you living right
@Conor Winston but studios are like $1300 new
Haha,yeah!
Right? What must it be like to have so many guitars you can go “Oh yeah. Forgot I had this LP just laying around”. 😂
If you want to sell the 2016 Gibson LP, I'll take it off your hands. Give me a price.
Me too, only my came with a pair of BB pros. Hands down best purchase ever made!
Robert J That's awesome. I'd love to be able to own a LP Studio. I like that wine colored one with the pick guard
gsxerwhite I was very lucky in being able to get mine. And it does have the black pick guard. A very good friend with a connection helped me get straight from Gibson without the Retail markup.
Robert J Sounds like a sharp looking guitar. I've wanted one since I first saw one in a store in the early 90's. I was like 13 and I liked them because they didn't have binding and I thought the standards looked too gaudy for me, I was a metal head 😄 These days I'd be happy just to own an Epi LP.
gsxerwhite I am also a Metal Head and that is one reason I wanted the Burstbuckers in mine.
I love your videos Trogly! I love how in depth you go with these guitars although i dont understand 50% of the lingo lol
Mirio ....hang in there...you’ll catch on quick!!!!
this video is super cool. i love this Chanel. for the new year i think it would be cool to see some guitars from EVH gear.
I have this exact guitar. Was purchased for me when I retired a few years ago. Always been a fan of the studio.
That Fireburst is gawgeous! I love that narrow perimeter instead of the recent 1/2 black teardrop burst.
Thank you Trogly for all the amazing videos over the past year +, I hope you have the most amazing new year coming... and I look forward to more videos!!! And if I am able to buy a guitar from you, you're my number one choice. Cheers!!!
Happy new year trogly, also this is my first time seeing your face.

Woh. I just discovered that tiny closet in the case from this video ! I've had this guitar and case for 7 years !
You don't have a leather strap on the lid??
Never had a studio...but after watching your vids, I think I would really like the “no” binding...and not having to stress over nicks and dings!!!!
I don’t stress over nicks and dings on any of my american guitars. Lifes too short to care.

That black doesnt blend into the others well for me
Finish looks totally Fender-ish giving it a 'Parallel Universe' series quirky charm
That's such a beautiful color scheme. It really reminds me of the tri-burst. I'd gladly play one of these.
Love the part about "studios depreciate quickly" yes, you could buy one new , walk across the street to a pawn shop and they would give you 100 bucks for it.
That neck pickup is gorgeous! I like the bridge split, not so much in full mode
Warped pickup rings (and warped plastics in general) usually end up that way because they weren't put into a jig to cool quickly enough or at all while the polymer was still hot. Things like a pickup ring will warp like hell at any point after being ejected from the tool (the mold) if not cooled in a jig of some kind that keeps it from doing just that
Gibson sells these pup rings and they have flat bottoms. I always throw mine in the case and buy curved metal ones.
My fav Studio color has to be the faded brown. One of those plugged into a Marshall JCM 2000 was what started this whole Les Paul addiction for me.
I'm a lover of that finish. Another lefty wishlist guitar.
I played a fair amount of early '90's Studios and I simply could not find one worth buying. The fit+finish on this guitar is absolutely superior.
Thats an amazing sounding Studio. I have heard my fair share.

Not big on bling , so the studios are my fave LP's. Great gigging tools. Black or bergundy is my fave , but I happen to like that burst.
I just bought one of these in red burst, my first USA gibson. And Lefty ! Love it.
That is really sharp, simple, I love it. And Pickguards SUCK! But you don't, thanks for all your hard work man!
These guitars are absolutely amazing for modding
Coil-split is terrible..wound up swapping pots and rewiring it 50’s style.(similar to treble bleed mod in effect but achieved by changing path to output) sounds way better than stock wiring imo..it’s a lot of fun. Given the price point of lp studios it’s no surprise Gibson recently chose to market the line to diy/mod projects in RUclips catalog.
I would say it sounded "fuzzy" at times, not so much "muddy". Overall, I think it sounded great.
Well put. His amp almost sounded like an old Tone Bender pedal when he drove it
Try saying "first fret neck depth" over and over really fast.
If I had the money, I would have bought this before the video finished. I really like the Fireburst finish.
Maybe I'm nuts, but I love both the looks and tone of this Studio!!!
Hey Trogly, I have a 2013 wine red cream and chrome studio. How about you review a Gibson n225. Very rare Gibson and completely unique!! Keep up the good work
Trophy you should do the studios with neck bindings in 2018 and 2019

I have a Les Paul studio 2016 , these guitars are amazing
I love the Fireburst finish. Studio LPs are a good value used. Just my opinion.

I’ve seen a lot of your videos, but never saw your face! Cool to put a face to the familiar voice
I definitely notice the body thickness difference between my studio and traditional.
You could put painters tape on your scale to protect the guitars.
I like the look of that Studio.
Sounds great too.
Wish I could be lucky enough to have Les Pauls laying around that I had forgotten about.
Sometimes I buy a new jar of mustard forgetting that I have a whole jar in the fridge. A Gibson Les Paul, not so much...

The original model it was based on m.ruclips.net/video/5bjGNkrWPj0/видео.html
I wish I had so many les Paul’s I could forget about one😥
I like how the shielded plate does the opposite of what it’s suppose to. Lol
Yep, grounding the backplates will kill the static.
I have the Standard and CM models of 2016.
Some years Studios were the same thickness as a Standard.
Also same set of pickups that is in my Firebird Studio T (2017).
Funny, because I got this model (2016 Studio T) in black and it sounds exactly opposite of muddy. I don`t know what it proves: tonewood, inconsistency in Gibson pickups production? or maybe it just proves that nobody changed the strings on yours since 2016?

I need more fender models
This one looks great to me. I'm not in the market, but I really like it. Thanks for the great video.
Great channel! great guitar too but it reminds me of a cheap 70s Tiesco with the burst showing the red distinctly rather than fade
Looking to 🍑 flake a 2011MM SG
Paint in the screwholes with shielding paint... Alternately don't play guitar naked in the rain.
Did you get the Kotzen Tele from Robert Baker
Nope
I thought the title said Firebird 😂😂 am I the only one?
Same here
Me too
Wow, you're really a much improved player.
Any chance on a Gibson Les Paul Custom John Sykes model? Would love to see a review on that 😁

he did an '07 Fireburst Studio that had gold hardware and cream plastics a while back
looks a little better than this one imo
i love the look of it
I have a 94 white studio with an ebony fretboard. I’ve yet to find a standard that plays better.
Are these nitro finish? It’s SAD because you can’t play them all at once and it would take an assistant to keep them all in spec.
I have the faded cherry 2016 T. But it doesn't have the splits
Trogly u need to buy one of the Eric Clapton signature strats
I love that finish
I am not a fan of the Studio, but that’s a beautiful guitar with nice wood grain.
How do you compare this to a Epiphone 59' Inspired by Gibson les paul? Exclusing the looks. Sound, feel, comftability and quality
Nice guitar I like the sunburst its in good shape.
And what about Tribute or old Faded series ? I got LP Tribute and it got same pickups as guitar in this vid.
Sounded great until he hit it with distortion and then it got really muddy. Weighs too much for me. Gotta have under 8lbs. Always impressed with Austins transparency.
I've never been this early to anything

hopefully you see this message, quick question. Of the gibsons in current line up, do any have a chunky neck? From looking up I feel they mostly all have similar neck sizes but im a huge fan of a thicker neck and looking for a les paul with one. Thanks in advanced.
That's a nice looking Studio
Troggy freaks himself out LMAO! 😃
