The other cars were just incidental! The real fight was between driver and car, between power and grip (which seems to have gone on holiday for this event) every slight squeeze of throttle elicited a nasty twitch that needed correcting! An epic demonstration of how to drive right on the ragged edge of what is possible on a difficult day. Let's face it, if you don't go beyond the limit now and again, how will you know you are on it? Can't work out if Ollie Bryant is a tad smoother or if Jake Hill was just giving an extra couple of %!
I can only imagine the difference in having a completely dry surface vs. a damp surface would have out there. Unfortunately someone forgot to turn off the tap...
@@culcune Years ago I attended a trackday at Goodwood with one of the Triumph owners clubs, the day wasn't just a bit damp in patches, it was positively waterlogged and STILL tipping it down. I didn't have more than 1/10th of the power of a Cobra in my ancient 1600cc Vitesse powered Herald estate, yet still had huge difficulty gaining and keeping traction. And downshifting to 2nd for the chicane had the rear wheels momentarily locking up, no matter how carefully I tried to match revs. With a nasty sideways twitch to go with it! Still, it was SO wet that I was actually keeping up with cars a lot more powerful than mine that had even less traction available!
What a beast of a car.. How Olly and Jake got the absolute best out of the car in some very poor conditions was incredible driving. So consistently on, or over the limit. Amazing show of driving skill.
Right now this video has approximately 76k views... it deserves 76m. That was awesome, I couldn't believe what I was watchin but I had too, I was lookin right at it.
That last segment where it was nearly all rearward facing camera was awesome. I would have loved to see some of the beginning of the race from that view since all of the cars were much more squirrely on the damp track. Excellent video @goodwoodrrc
I love this raw racing, it’s great Goodwood are putting up these videos as I’ve lost interest in F1 which I used to love, I want racing not a procession followed by a pantomime.
He really knows how to handle that beast most of it was wheel spinning and side ways action and he was all for useing all the horse power he had that's wat you called proper driving and racing old school way 🙂👏
I think the rear wheels were going faster than the front wheels for most of the race. Great throttle and steering control on those high speed hydroplanes.
Amazing wheel skills and throttle control. These cars are very twitchy and notoriously hard to drive, he made it look easy...in the rain. Also the pedals are pushed toward the driver side tire which must feel weird. What a drive.
Driver: yeah this is just a bit of fun, not going to race it too hard. Proceeds to overtake round the outside of corners with full opposite lock and the loud pedal flat on the floor... 😂
It seems to me some of the other hi-performance cars like the Corvettes really aren’t pushing their very expensive machines all that much. Unlike the Cobra driver who appears to be a professional pushing the limits. If the Vettes had the big block 427cubic inch motor in them they’d give any other car a run for their money. With this being said, I’m an absolute fan of the AC Cobra. I want one!
I love seeing them racing these old cars like they were meant to be raced. They've been wrecked and rebuilt hundreds of times. Run them like they were meant to be. If you wreck you rebuild them.
Moving like a dangerous coupley snake !! A weightlifting s car that requires velvet right foot , brain And balls !! What à race ... much better than actual formula 1 Tks for sharing 👍👍
Great drive and video. It would be helpful however to include the date of the event in the descriiption, not just the name of it, and also other links to the action. Thanks
Driver does a great job dealing with the oversteer, not much competition though. Most of these cars are driven by "gentleman" racers and aren't going to drive all out like this guy, great job by this driver...
please find a way to create a racing series with these? I swear on all that's holy I'll show up loyally just like formula 1 races every friday, saturday and sunday. this is WAYYY better than formula 1 though.
There already is .. Goodwood have them twice a year. There's also Peter Auto and Masters Historic Racing who organizes a lot of races in Europe. For example, Peter Auto just had a race weekend in Estoril...
man, it sounds like the mill is pinging at 4800-5250 under WOT maybe the timing is locked out and had it tuned for dry where the revs would be above that
@@dezartsean6059 That's a silly question. One, the camera angle and glare from the screen mean you can't see the marshal posts easily, and two, bear with me on this, that's not how you use a blue flag. Blue flags during races are for showing slow traffic they are about to be lapped by the leader(s). So, you aren't going to see any blue flags during the early phases of a race because nobody is getting lapped. Unless there's a problem. Oh, and there are race stewards, and penalties applied where appropriate.
@@StarkRaven59 You're being very rational towards a passionate statement in which I glorified some super, rugged racing compared to what we see paraded each Sunday in F1. Yes, I race and I know the flags ;-)
@@dezartsean6059 I get it, just a small bit of exception at your phrasing. Nearly everybody uses blue flags and post-race steward reviews, so we're all ponces save maybe the Nascar guys. Yeah, F1 is extra poncy, but we've known that for a long time.

@@jcgabriel1569 Thanks JC, that is just amazing. In ~1965 my uncle drove him and me, in his new 1964 first-year Pontiac GTO, to Vacaville Raceway, west of Sacramento, California. Yes actually........ Don't turn up to a race with 'push bike' tyres on........ That car would have easily won otherwise. Had at least 3 overtake aborts on the straights due to not being able to keep up in the corners.

Pure Old School racing. No telemetry, just the driver's skill , an the machine. I would love to do this.

Perfect balance between skill and guts with too much power in the rain. Excellent to behold.

Brilliant driving and very respectful competitors .
That Cobra is a full on beast and a half . Much respect to the
