@@emboe001 correct I’m Filipino now
@@sethutkc350thank you for your service
Appreciate completing the tutorial! 8 years, it’s actually impressive that you didn’t just leave it. Good things ahead!
This is incredible. Almost 10 years in the making and worth the wait, thank you!
Back in 2014 I took up piano for 6 months. I watched your original tutorials and learnt parts A & B. After almost a 10 year hiatus I'm back and learning the "new chords section"... looks like we are working on similar timescales 😅.... thanks for the ending.
Welcome back and happy practicing. Never too late to learn if you ask me!
Thank you so much! This is now the first ever song I've learned on piano! This tutorial was incredibly helpful!
This is amazing, Spencer! Thank you so much! I never thought I could play one of my favorite songs myself, but thanks to you, now I can. Greetings from Germany
Greetings friend, I’m so glad to hear this. Congratulations on the results of your hard work!
Been waiting on this for forever lol
Sorry it took me so long! Feel free to ask questions in the comments if you have any
This person has had a whole character arc between the parts for this simple tutorial. I love it
Lol, such is life. Update for the curious: I use any pronouns now!
@@sethutkc350 well here's my life update: I can play this with my eyes closed now, thank you!
@@CrimeMinister1 I always love hearing that folks found the tutorial helpful. Congratulations on your hard work paying off!
This helps a lot! Thank you very much for taking the time to record and upload this video! You have the closest to the original song tutorial on RUclips. Much appreciated! Stay safe and greetings from Germany!
thank you im getting a keyboard soon and this was the first song i wanted to try to learn. I know its not a beginners song but at least i know it well. I will use your teaching.
Good luck my friend! It’s definitely a good idea to start learning songs that you know well when you first learn an instrument, so it sounds like you’re on the right track. I hope the tutorial helps you!
thanks! just learned the whole thing this month! your video helped a lot!
Yay! Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
thank you for the tutorial!
Oh my gosh, you hadn’t posted still last time I checked, I’m a few years late but this is so cool!! I feel like I found closure on something from my childhood lol.. Thank you for this!
In my case it literally was childhood closure - i started this in middle school! I hope it’s helpful and happy playing :)
This reminds me of a music project we were doing in class during my 1st year at Academie Lafayette. You made me discover garage band Spencer. Great job!
Merci, Monsieur Balde! ☺️
Thank you so much for this!! ❤
It's been a life goal of mine to learn this song. I found the first tutorial years ago. At that time, I was realizing I was transgender. Life got busy... I never finished learning the first part of the tutorial. Fast forward many years, I've fully transitioned, fulfilled other life goals of DJing at a festival and writing a song I'm proud of, and I'm finally getting back to learning how to play this track. It's awesome that you recently posted this video and the accompanying pronoun update. Thank you so much for finishing it!
Congratulations on everything. I’m glad you found it, and thank you for sharing!! Made my day.
Thank you so much for making this video. I am very grateful for it.
Thank you for finishing this tutorial after such a long time. You`re pretty good at teaching! i wish there were more tutorials on your channel... If you ever feel like doing tutorials again I`d love to see more for the Smashing Pumpkins.
Thanks for saying so! Feel free to subscribe in case I ever post again, but… no promises lol. You see how long this took. 🙃
I can’t believe you delivered, thank you!
Waited 10 hrs for this¡
I really appreciate you coming back after all these years to teach the third part. I only wish you did a part three that had the breakdown of what keys to press like part one and two. I have part one and two down and can play them now without even looking at the piano, but it’s hard for me to tell which keys to press down for part three. Any chance you could do a breakdown of part three that fits the way you taught part one and two? I know it’s a lot to ask.
Thanks for the kind comment, Andrew. That said, to be honest with you I don’t plan on going over this song again on this channel. I’m doing enough free labor lately as is and have no plans to become a professional youtube person. If you’re set on learning it and want me to take the time, I’d be happy to set up a paid zoom lesson and go through it with you.
Thanks so much. This song touches the soul in so many ways, and I’m so happy to begin to play it.
Like other people commenting, as a beginner, I’m happy to not only understand, but watch you go through it again and again.
You’re being you really helps to pull it together for us, but after repeating repeating going back repeating (no time for commas or breathing when going back),
I could begin to see.
Also, I had to research chords a lot. Take snapshots of them and confirm.
What is the G Flat you used? I see your fingers but couldn’t find it anywhere online.
It is (I believe, I’m not sure which part you’re asking about) a particular voicing of a Gb major 7 chord. Otherwise the other Gb chords are just normal major triads. Sorry for the late response, hope this still helps somehow. Thank you for your kind comment.
Great video
I wish part 3 of your old video was posted. I learned the song years ago and I'm going back to relearn and I find this video isn't as clear as the 3rd video was. Could you please upload or share it? The second verse and 3rd are way harder to follow in this video. Thank you for the videos, I'm just old and learn a certain way.
I'm somewhat new to piano. No lessons and I got the first 20 second down to tee but i keep getting confused with the minor chord shapes as I don't which minor chords contain a major key and which minor chord requires 3 minor keys if that makes sense.
I think i know what you’re asking? let me see if I can help - every basic minor chord starts with a minor third (two notes which are 3 half-steps apart) and then a major third on top of that (this third note is the fifth of your minor chord, and it will be 4 half-steps above the second note in the chord).
With major chords it’s the opposite - you start on the root, go up 4 half-steps to get to your major third, and then you add a minor third (3 half-steps) to get to the fifth of the chord. I know that’s a lot of numbers with slightly different meanings, but hopefully my explanation here helps! Happy practicing!
Great tutorial, appreciate the effort you've put into creating it.
You couldn't by any chance do one for mayonaise could you?
It's probably my absolute favourite Smashing Pumpkins song and I've always wanted to learn it.
I’ve got a list going of the suggestions people make here. Can’t promise I’ll ever post again but if I do it’ll be one of those suggestions, and yours is on the list now. Thank you for your kind words.
thank they or them for the video, I have been playing this song in D, time to re-learn!
I’m happy to help! So glad folks are learning this song.
PS: I appreciate the effort with your language, but FYI “thank you” works just fine in my case and for most non-binary folks, second person pronouns aren’t replaced by third person singular. First person singular (she, he) would be replaced by “they” but you remains just “you”. Just so you know! Thanks again for the awareness and effort!
thank you, spencer
caraca daora tinha visto os video picotado antigo não esperava essa volta mas valeu ((:
I have this down now thanks to you! So big thanks dude! If you are taking requests for your next tutorial.. Cherub Rock on piano please! I dont care if it takes you a year... You are easy to follow and understand! ;-)
madlad! great job! thank you!
good lookin out spence, thanks!!! :)
Nice! Thanks! One word, tho: pants 👖 🤣
Shorts!
Thank you so so much!
Thank you for the great tutorial! And I totally get what you were saying wtg the fingering and being self taught. I'm the same, and the way I play piano and guitar would make a tutor cringe😅
Awesome stuff.
Great video. I would love to see a tutorial on how to play blue heaven and disarm from Smashing Pumpkins
That’s something I could do! A tutorial for piano, specifically?
@@sethutkc350 Yeah! :)
Thank you
Appreciatedddddd
Are you using pedals to prolong the notes?
Thanks good job
Are you sure that’s suppose to be an Em7?
I believe it’s an E major7, which I would write EM7. If I said minor seven, my bad!
@@sethutkc350 your right it is. I learned the whole song today and my own version of tonight tonight.
Of course the one part I need help with is the part where you say you don't know exactly what key it is.... :P
It's great you finished the tutorial, but this one was the most difficult to understand and see what you were playing. I liked the 1st 2 tutorials way better. I dont know the names of cords, so that probably doesn't help me understand this tutorial very well, and it is not easy seeing which notes you pushed.
Sorry to hear it. I recommend watching sections on repeat, and slowing down to .5 or .75 speed as you watch. Good luck’
6:37
6:03 the chords are to fast and too had to see
Would recommend watching that section at a slower speed if it’s giving you trouble; that section uses the Ab minor chord, the Bb minor chord, and the B major chord. Hope this helps!
Too much talking
Nope...
