- I go up the rig under full sail in Force 6 winds to capture sailing from a new perspective in the fjords of Patagonia. Watch as I conquer my fear of hights in this scary but breathtakingly beautiful sailing video. Possible our best sailing video yet!

It's not quite Halloween, but Kate dons a new sailing costume in the form of a harness to ascend the mast... while under sail! Things can get a bit scary up there at over 10 knots Speed Over Ground!
This is what real expedition and adventure sailing is like. No one else is here, as far as we know, we are the first and only RUclips Sailing Channel to sail and film these waters. There are no instagram models, bathing suit photo shoots, and pig beaches. This documentary series is a real adventure by two hardcore sailors from the USA, on a mission to explore the world by sailboat, around it and crossing oceans!
Now grab a coffee and enjoy a sailing video that we had lots of fun making. Click subscribe and come along with the yacht Sailing Sweet Ruca for this awesome around the world sailing adventure with us!

Here is a little more about us:
We sold everything in the USA in 2019. We bought a boat and spent six months re-fitting it in a boatyard in Rhode Island. Inspired by the OG sailing channels such as SV Delos, Gone With The Wynns, and Sailing UMA, we left on the 4th of July to sail away and explore the world.
We wanted to do something a bit different though. We bucked the catamaran trend and bought a fast performance cruising monohull. Many people said we couldn't make it around Cape Horn in our J Boat. We proved them wrong! We are pretty sure we have the perfect sailboat (almost) for doublehanded cruising, especially for sailing upwind in the challenging fjords of patagonia.
So, while all the other fair weather sailing channels like Expedition Evans, Chasing Latitudes (do they even count as a sailing channel?), and Sailing Doodles are floating around in the Caribbean and Bahamas in their bathing suits, at the boat show, creating drama, breaking their boats, making little squalls look like storms, taking photos in their bikinis (real offshore sailors don't wear bikinis btw, they protect themselves from the sun), and really not doing much of anything (we get it, its easy money and can't blame them). We have sailed two transatlantics at an average speed of over 7 knots 100% doublehanded, sailed around Cape Horn twice (our sailing dog Roxy provided moral support and protection from birds!), and did three extensive boat re-fits over the course of four years sailing and living off the grid.
We were not professional video editors, we were not filmmakers. We didn't even set out to make a new RUclips channel, we just wanted to go sailing. We are learning new skills every day. Our goal now is to show how sailing around the world really is. Not a fake documentary which glosses over the difficult parts. This is reality. This is how sailing really is. We hope we inspire you to truly challenge yourself and accomplish your inner goals. You can do anything you set your mind to! Please join us on our journey as we show you how to sail around the world the hard way :-)
Hi everyone! If you enjoyed this video please like, subscribe, and share the video on other platforms to help us grow our channel here on RUclips! 😀🥰⛵🌊👍
Truely the best sailing channel on RUclips. It's amazing how you all put out great video's week after week of beautiful scenery that 99.99 percent of world's population will never see in person. Your sense of adventure outpaces all other sailing channels combined. Keep having fun, stay warm and stay safe. Bill

A real travel log and adventure with a flying mast photographer. Here Here
Ive been sailing vicariously with you for some time. I loved to sail but for physical reasons I'm unable to do so. So, you are making an incredible journey. Thanks for taking me along. Be safe. Next year I'll become a Patron. Warmly, Boompy
We look forward to seeing you there! For now, thanks for the comment, the sub, and for watching! Cheers!
Definitely the best sailing You tube channel and the best saliors couple. Kate you are tremendous . God bless you both.
Little Miss Dangles... LMAO... 😆 Delfínis...🥰 Beautiful Sailing both... So not jealous... Not...! Be safe guys... 🙏
The wind filling the sails was a thing of majestic beauty.
The unspoiled raw beauty of the Patagonia is so captivating.
Thanks
Safe travels under God's protection and guidance. ❤
Thank you Larry!
Ain’t that the truth! Spectacular views from the mast 👌
Thank you! Always enjoy your comments :)
You two deserve way more subs! True Sailors! Matt and Amy on Florence have the same sailing ethos. Thank you.
Thank you Rick. You can help us by sharing the video :-)
I agree, Matt and Amy are/were (as they're now back home in UK) the only other real sailing channel as far as I've seen. I subscribed primarily in order to see how you managed the Cape challenge and the scenery of Patagonia.
I expect you do realize that you are now right at the same latitude as the 49th North parallel that divides US and Canada. Fair sailing and best wishes.
Again you two take it over the top‼️ Of course, the location is no too shabby. 🎉🎉🎉 Plenty of "K" ties to keep your home safe and sound. See you next time. ✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🌲❄️✨
Great video. Kate is the crew I always wanted! Multi skilled and bags of energy.
WHAT A BACK DROP TO BE POWER REACHING ON A "J" 46.THANKS FOR SHARING
You're very welcome!
Thank God sailing is not forgotten.
Ruca under full sail , is a joy to see...now that's pod raci......err...sailing......
Peaceful and Majestic. Thanks, SV Skoiern IV
You are very very lucky, make the most of it, life is short...Great shots, no blah blah, just the sound of the sea and the piano in the background: congratulations, keep it up!
Glad you are enjoying. Thanks for the kind words!
Stunning video. Awesome job, y’all. Best sailing channel ever. Loved the new episode introduction. Great footage, Kate. Y’all were really born to be this high. Thanks for sharing all that with us.
Aww. This comment really warms our hearts. Thank you 🥹
Nice intro.
You definitely deserve much more subscribers given the authenticity of you both and the pure sailing content of your channel...
Keep up the good work! ⛵⛵⛵
We appreciate that so much. Inspires us to keep going :) Commenting helps, so thank you!
Lovely sailing ! This is a favorite!
This is different to all the other sailing channels. Either swimming with pigs in the Bahamas or getting lost looking for a waterfall in French Pol. Both you and Zatara brings something different. They did Saudi and you went South. Very South . Awesome videos. Thanks
Merci pour ces belles images. Vous avez du talent pour filmer et montrer ce qui est beau et sauvage autour de vous. Bravo pour l’ascension dans le mât et les images aériennes. C’est une bonne idée.
Bon vent et à bientôt 🇫🇷
Merci beaucoup!
May be the best episode ever. Nice to see some blue sky and sails flying. Kate walking the spreader while underway was awesome. Camera angles and scenery were incredible. What an adventure. Give Roxy an extra hug too. Thanks
🥰 Thanks so much! We are glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Hey Curtis it’s Kurt. Liked your introductory voice. Very smooth.
Haha right on Kurt!
I was lucky enough in my younger life to visit and live on sub Antarctic islands and Antarctica itself. The relative unspoiled and nature in its true form has been beyond magnificent. More than enjoy what you are doing and it can and will be a very enriching life experience.
Good on you, Kate!
Cheers!
Spectacular, not much else to say!!!!!
I hope I can have as Good a sailing Mate as Kate. She is exceptional, you Both are.
Spectacular!
Great video. Awesome shots from up high!
Crazy happy Sea Dogs! What else? Take care!
Wow, this edit was at another level! The intro had me mesmerized and i felt i was sailing on Sweet Ruca! Thanks so much for sharing your passion and dream with the viewers. Incredible and much respect ✊ !
Wow, thanks so much for the awesome words! Respect ✊!
Beutiful! Sailing, places, moments... what an experience! Thanks for sharing! See you next week!
Wow man. Excellent view.
You two really continue to impress with the content. Spectacular video from up on the mast. Would be a great place to mount a camera.
We agree! Maybe some day!
Thank you as always for allowing others like myself to share in your adventure. The blue sky and changes in your surroundings are breathtaking. God bless.
what an epic adventure you guys are having.
A beautiful anchorage. Patagonia is awesome. Oddly satisfying to watch Kate tie the yacht down knowing it will keep you safe.
Sublime. Thanks.
Thank you for watching!
Great video. As always!
I know you don't really do "talking head videos" but I would love to hear your and Curtis's thoughts on what cruising boats should or shouldn't consider a Magellan/Cape horn passage. Maybe do a debrief of specific equipment, preparations, etc... In its own video, specific to high lattitude cruising now having done it. I watch lots of cruising content on YT. If high latitude cruising like this is something someone would aspirationally want to do at some point is there any special considerations when looking for a boat or is it more about the preparation? Would you ever take a Lagoon/leopard/Beneteau/Catalina etc... there? I know there are high latitude specific vessels like you met in Puerto Williams but imagine 98-99% of the boats life is going to be between the 40s.
Love the content. Because you tend to be more sailing focused I tend to enjoy your content a little more than some of your peers in the space. Keep it up. I look forward to your videos every week.
A great idea! We will consider this for sure. We have some more detailed written blogs planned as well. But a talking heads is a great idea. I hope we can make it come to fruition.
Thanks for the kind words and for following along. Cheers!
Absolutely one of your all time best videos ❤ you guys are the best, love this video in every way!!! Thank you 🎉 🙏😊
Dangling on top of the mast is what I call a turn on. 🥳
Sweet Ruca can fly.. great footage up high. 😊
Keep going!! Onwards! Don't give up the ship! ❤ you guys are awesome. Cool videos. I always learn something.
Very beautiful you are the best
Look at that perfectly flaked staysail.. making us all look bad haha
Good video.
You two are awesome.
You are one of my favorite new(ish) channels. I know this may be an impossible ask given where you are sailing, but is there any way for you to bump up your video resolution? Even 2K would be a dramatic improvement and do more justice to the incredible sights and adventures you are sharing. Thank you for bringing us where few of even the saltiest tars have never voyaged!
Hey guys another amazing episode. Great sailing, Kate on trapeze😁 The untouched wilderness is just something else. In our experience lines ashore can be very good but also difficult in changing weather. In such a big bay would swinging on anchor be just as good?
Fair winds & best wishes
Peter & Jennene
Yep, y'all are a couple of bad asses. 😁
Any viewers in Belgium/Netherlands/Northern France who obsess about sailing in the same part of the world, following in Sweet Ruca's steps? Let's link up. My (non-commercial!) goal: 2-3 months sailing in Chilean Patagonia. Total crew: two or three.
That's not the kind of sailing you do everyday. Awesome footage from the top of the mask. Awesome views from the hike 😊
Wow, what awe inspiring views!!!
I think I would have to put a chair up there somehow so I could spend hours in the sails.
Hallo
Sehr schönes Video, macht weiter so
Viele Grüße aus Köln

Good to see you were able to pull some good sailing. Nice shots.
Fantastic.
Stunning video! Well done!!
Any fish in lake? Always enjoying coming along on your travels. Thank you!
Great video. Love the Roxy videos, what she puts up with. We just arrived in Porto Santo, Madiera, headed for Cabo Verde and Brazil.
Hi Rauf! That is wonderful to hear! You must be excited to make the next passage! Warm and with breeze from the right angles :-)
I’d be interested to know how long it took to get well snugged into that anchorage; it didn’t look like a quick job especially as I’m sure it’s important to get it right. And why not tie the bowline around a handy boulder, rather than struggling to find a tree, assuming you can be certain that the mooring line will not slip off. Perhaps because of the risk of snagging when leaving? I noticed that the loops were very long with no need to go ashore to untie - is that deliberate? Thanks and do continue enjoying your adventure.
@davidturner4350 I always used chain around a boulder or tree (with a small fisherman anchor) and attached the line on the chain to avoid any chafe. I don't trust tree much😅 Even a grappling iron would do.
Of course wrestling with all of that rope is a close second. Tough work
Still in puerto Mont? Hurry up guys, spring is here hahahaha. Are you crossing the pacific or returning to US?. Cheers!!!!
nice hiking shots
Hello, what system do you use for cooking and heating?
How long are your shore lines? When I sailed the coast of Turkey we would drop our anchor the motor close to shore and set the shore lines then used the anchor to pull us away from the shore.
😀👍👍👍❤
Please help me with this. Is your boat considered a sloop or a cutter? I thought the only difference was a sloop had only one headsail but a cutter has two.
Bonjour
I'm french. Undertitle are not available. Is it depending of you or RUclips? Merci
We believe this is a problem on RUclips' end. We have not been able to find a quick solutiom but have tried! désolé!
I've heard of climbing above the tree line - it looks like you've gone south of the tree line 🙂
👏👏👏
To much traffic and to many people per square foot 21:29 also a stop 🛑 light on Every corner and on Every block. I left mijami in 75 for that reason…!!! 🤔🤷🏻♂️😅😂😎
How efficient are your solar panels in Patagonia?
In the summer months in Patagonia they work well, in the winter months, solar is almost non existent.
With no subs it was a total loss to me 😢
Thank you for the feedback. RUclips seems to be having some issues. I hope its better now. It seems like we are able to add them in finally
😄😃
Some nice tight sails
