@Meneer Van dijk Yes you are correct, but with the amount of wars we either start or supply it's just as bad. Almost every country we've attacked has had their economy destroyed and causes more humanitarian problems than what it was before. Vietnam, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan.
@Meneer Van dijk They claim it was to stop communism but with what we now know today it was for much more. Vietnam was known for growing poppies as well as Afghanistan. Me personally I believe "communism" was excuse given in order to cover up the truth as to why we went to war with those two countries. Plus we were warned about the military industrial complex by Eisenhower and last year Trump flat out said the MIC is real and that Washington wouldn't let him pull away from Syria. War is all just for profit and made up excuses.
@@Caliboss916 The reason the US went to war in Vietnam was to maintain a capitalist system/the 'dominoes theory'. However, the reason the Vietnam War happened in the first place was that the US refused to support Vietnam's liberation from France after WW2. Just the fact that he is interviewing people who don’t look like the stereotypical cookie cutter citizen in 1988 is extremely telling of his character. It’s even MORE telling when he actually listens and cares about what these teens have to say. This is why I love him and always will. He is consistent.
First of all, these young punks had more insight into society, war and peace, and international politics than the entire media back in the 80’s and 90’s, and frankly now, too. Second, Bernie Sanders listened. He truly listened. He did not jump in with his own views or try to steer them in a certain direction. He is an empathetic man, and he respects people who are different from him.
Tbh the media now doesnt care bout shit. They emphesise thing waaaaaaay too much for money and i find that really fucking douchbagy of them. For example there was a concert at a halftime show (idk what that is im not from America), there was a band singing there and the media was treating them as if they have killed people just because they werent wearing shirts ( this bullshit comes from feminists ), this just goes to show how bad it has gotten at this point.
He was a good interviewer. At the start, both of the young people were reticent to talk, but they soon blossomed into putting their ideas across freely when they realised he wasn't mocking them but rather appeared to be genuinely interested in their views.
So let me get this straight...as the mayor, Bernie walked around in the mall interviewing people, and when he saw two punks, he asked them genuine questions instead of judging them? No wonder the democrats don't want him to be president, he actually treats people with respect.
@Halo Eve the establishment doesnt want non establishment people with non establishment views running for president. Period. That said, it doesnt automatically mean non establishment people are good or establishment supported people are necessarily bad. Bernie will not make a good president.
Good policies for a small state like vermont dont reflect onto a nation the size of The US. His policy goals cant be reached especially not within the max of 8 years he has to work with. Itll be failed because it didnt start slow and will blow up like obamacare.
@Halo Eve the only person that has been on the debate stage in the last 20 years that would have been a good president was Ron Paul. Everyone else is focused on stupid policies that cant be realistically implemented where as Ron was the only one focused on dismantling everything that wasnt working And we need another man like that. Bernie Is not that man.
when the punk said "were the ones that go into the other countries and start wars, but weve never had a war in our own country" it broke my heart. its been 30+ years and millions of innocent lives in the middle east are still being destroyed. my heart goes out to Yemen, Libya, Iraq, Somalia, Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan, & Pakistan..
Yes, I am with you in the feeling and it hasn’t only been the Middle East though that’s the current destruction for the greed of American oil interests. Millions of refugees. Very sad indeed.
revolutionary war, civil war, war of 1812, Spanish American war, french Indian war, and part of WW2 were all fought inside of America so idk what they're on about saying "a war has never happened inside of America" because half the wars America has fought have been inside America, they're talking about being in school maybe they should've payed attention in history
Bernie got funds for a punk rock venue for the kids called 242 Main. An all ages venue that was great for all of us. Fugazi was among the many band that played there.
I never knew about his role in making this happen, very interesting and cool to hear as someone who grew up in mid/post-Bernie Burlington. 242 was a great place to get a real taste of the music scene in the middle of bumfuck Vermont lol
Maybe y’all just paranoid because nothing wrong is happening here ever and everything was always fine and I’m from the hood 🤣y’all silly crybabies bruh. Need something to cry about. We help other countries not invade and if he get invaded the other country is fucked but yet Bernie tryna become president of a country he hates??? Makes sense
Quinn O'vin the United States provides military support to 73 percent of the worlds dictatorships and has invaded and overthrown literally dozens of democratically elected governments who go against their interests throughout history
That is a man with actual empathy. Rather than judge, watch how he asks why they feel that way. The attacks against him are and always have been gross. This is a genuinely honest and caring person who whether you disagree with his politics, you're straight up lying if you say he does this for anyone but his constituents. Punks in the 1990s grew up with the Clintons and Gores leading the attack against their subculture via the PMRC. Disaffected voters thought there was no difference between parties, and by that point they weren't wrong. Bernie bridges that gap.
@Zack Macdowell words like "terrorist" are just political buzzwords typical of a country filled with war-on-terror propaganda. While the same actions of said country interfering in other countries, by plotting political assassinations and coups, is called "military intelligence". While the current and past presidencies of said country likes Putin, China, sides with Arab Emirates, Israel and so on.
These are true punks! They might not be super articulate because they’re nervous but they still made a lot of sense and they showed their elder respect by not cursing in front of him. This goes against the stereo type that punks are violent and always hateful. What happened here is that they were treated with respect, by someone older, so they returned the respect in full.
They did a follow up interview some 30 years later with Mike. And he explained how he wasn't educated enough at the time to properly articulate his thoughts during that interview. But his life views were basically the same now as then!
Bernie: "So what does your clothes say" Punk: "To hell with society" Bernie, the mayor: "What parts of society should I change for you" Punk: "holy crap you're listening to me?"

Anarchism isn't about chaos, it's not buck wild. It's a lack of hierarchy. There have been numerous communities, cultures, and companies structured without hierarchy. It takes a level of self awareness that many of us aren't very familiar with anymore, but it's perfectly real and functional. Was brave of Michele and Mike to speak with a local politician, considering how much they distanced themselves from societal norms.
I like the idea of anarchy if you look at it from the idea of self rulership rather than external rulership. The difficulty is is that that is a lot of responsibility that we have never been trained to accept.we need to learn basic things like how to be kind to ourselves before we fit to rule ourselves. And looking really perspective of being pack animals not everybody wants to rule themselves. I think that's okay too but they should be safe and protected in their desire to follow.

Von Steiner Medicare for all, and equal access to higher education for all citizens, and livable wages are very clear policies, all of which Bernie has been fighting for his entire life. He wanted to ensure that the current amassing of wealth in the 1% was halted as it is unsustainable for a country in the long run. He wanted taxes to be properly demanded of the wealthy and affordable for the working class. Him being a pleasant, stable human being are just a few bonuses
Everything she said is relevant today as well, spoken like a true punk. Bernie is awesome for always looking beyond appearance to talk to real people and actually listening.

"What specific aspects of this society you don't like?" Well obviously the fact that you haven't had the support to become the president of the US of course
I don't care about politics, but I do care that Bernie is just talking to them nicely even if they're not dressing like him. Etc. Talking to them like people. Not like they're below him or outcasts etc.

It's sorta funny to see just how thrown off they are, it's evident by the way they talk that they both have a chip on their shoulder from being talked down to and looked down upon by both their peers and the authority figures in their lives, but because Bernie at the very least acknowledges their concepts and ideals (while not outright accepting them) it sorta takes the fight out of them and leaves them confused.
Establishment corporatist owned media. Watch the video Kyle Kulinski did on Secular Talk showing how even after elections where Bernie won, Biden got more favourable coverage. Bernie got alot of negative coverage. They didn't even talk about him on the news until they were forced to admit he was a top presidential candidate both in 2016 and now.

Colin Brash I agree about showing the merit of debate, but also think even back then that they knew their market. I 100% think this was a canned interview. I love how he just treated them like human beings. They obviously were too young to vote for them and are a little naive, but he understands that and still listens to what they have to say. It's so genuine.
Sadly I don't think he would be a super effective president because Congress would likely vote against most of his proposals because most people of the House and Senate are Liberals and Conservatives(if we can even really call them conservatives anymore). I could be wrong though. Perhaps a "President Bernie Sanders" could have pushed Democrats further left. Some Liberal Senators don't even agree with certain Proposals from President Biden as if he's a leftist. He's literally a liberal which is basically a centrist in lots of other countries.
Looks like he's lost some hair on top since this video. He obviously isn't a fan of the comb. I'm a Trump supporter 100% but there's something about Bernie that amuses me. Sometimes he says things that crack me up. I felt bad for him when he got the Democrat nomination stolen from him by that evil cunt Hillary. I like how polite he was to these 2 kids.

I like the idea of anarchy if you look at it from the idea of self rulership rather than external rulership. it was the 80s and they were in Burlington Vermont
I love how he just treated them like human beings. They obviously were too young to vote for them and are a little naive, but he understands that and still listens to what they have to say. It's so genuine.
If she was going to college, she was likely of voting age.
Less naive and more informed than many many many many Americans.

I think it's because Bernie sees kids as future adult citizens, no matter who they are

He hasn’t aged a day. Still really old.

Looks like he's lost some hair on top since this video. He obviously isn't a fan of the comb. I'm a Trump supporter 100% but there's something about Bernie that amuses me. Before the revolutionary war the this was technically British land (even tho it really was Native American land) and the Americans wanted independence but it’s not like foreigners came in and invaded to take from us what wasn’t theirs before.
