The footage of the fakie hardflip session at le dome is just amazing. And the bs flip and switch tre he does in the Adidas Superstars are absolutely perfect. Merci Fred!
Me and my buddy drew used to watch menikmati and anthology all the time and wonder if Tom Penny ever falls lol . His flow looked so consistent and and of course seeing this now even his falls are graceful . Love all of this ❤️ thanks Tom for being you!!!
Thanks for all 2-3 years of those magnificient parts. Definately best raw parts ever seen in skateboarding. Always in my mind and in skateboarding history.
+HAPPY ツ I remember seeing cell phone footage of him failing tricks years ago on youtube thinking "damn, these don't even look like fails, it looks like he knew he'd fuck up as he set up and let it go" which is probably true.
@@vmvlev Naw there footy of him slamming and bailing at White rock, Santa rosa and at his home park england. One of the reasons he's the goat is cause he wasn't a robot. Edit he's still pro.
No, Fred I'm the one thankful here for every footage you shared with us, thanks for filming in a unique style and for filming one of the best ones, it only take a kickflip shifty like that one to make me smile. Penny will always be like Davinci or Beethoven or nietzsche or Einstein of skateboarding who knows. And you were the to get his best tricks/moments on flip career, etc So thank you Fred. You are always welcome where I live.
thanks so much for your efforts in sharing these indescribably brilliant visual treasures. tom inspired me to start skating and this video took me all the way back to the days of yore, when one could skate all day and night and do it again all summer long. cheers!
This was/is AWESOME. So much unseen Penny footy. For all you youngin's...Penny footage in the 90's was coveted by ALL. There really wasn't a shit load of footage, but when you saw any Penny clip, it was JAW DROPPING. Everybody loves Penny's style. His Flip industry section (411) His ATM Click friends section, Etnies High 5 (his most famous part of all time) His 411 part (like the first or second 411 vm part) was just legendary. There really isn't anyone this day and age where you see footy of him/her and are just blown away by the trick/style/and effortless look. When Penny was on film (or if you were lucky enough to see him in real life) you sat your ass down and watched wishing you could be like that on a board.
thepupils209 atm click friends section is my favorite. have it on vhs, the velvet underground/lou reed song (satellite of love) , the smooth atmosphere of the filming. perfection.
Well Said! I love how his part is just him cruising a whole downtown block hitting up whatever. There was no "OK..I'm gonna hit the ledge then hit the hip, after that hit the rail,etc..." It was all spontaneous and spur of the moment. Caught the "pure" aspect of hitting the streets. RAW
@@thepupils209 so true, it was in 1997 when i watched this on fine VHS again, again and again and felt the same about it. And by the way, all that good music there in it inspired me as well.
Fred what are you doing just putting this footage on here? Take all this footage of old flip days, get some interviews in order and make a documentary about this time in skateboarding and flip. Talk about them coming to the states, how popular the sorry videos were, Arto's injuries, Tom being over it and going off the radar, what they did to Bastien, what happened with Ali and Shane, Mark leaving, etc. This era of flip was when I was most into skateboarding and would love to see a behind the scenes of what went really happened to one of my favorite skate teams of all time. I mean you already have the footage you just need the interviews.
@@armin38822i think its bc penny is one hard motherfucker to track down let alone convince the guy to go in front of the camera for whoever knows how long. Aside from his legendary skating, he’s also a legend at going under the radar
Thrasher should due a Hall of Fame type of conglomerate to honor the skaters that had good overall careers or had major influence in the culture itself. It would make up for those skaters that never won SOTY but still shredded. Idk just a random though
I've thought the same thing a while ago!! There has to be!! These names are just as worthy of recognition as any people of remembrance in any sport! These legends have made history. It's only logical to have them remembered forever in a hall of legends.
1:53 I don't think another human being on earth could have rolled away from that. Grew up watching him as a kid. Been on a Penny footage binge for days. There really never was or will be another skater like him

those white and red kostons (at least I believe they are kostons?) and that one dudes marc johnson emericas are giving me some nostalgia. Thanks for the awesome series Fred.
it's really too bad, seeing this kind of makes me sad. I feel like this is the last good footage from Tom Penny. He was at his prime here and he had so much potential, and yet there was just so much drinking and drugs involved. Seems to me they were all having a good time, but also he seems a bit lost and trying to find a way and a place between all the madness. Imagine what we could have seen more from him... We all know how tragically it all wen't down, just I wished Tom Penny recovered from this all and found a better place to be in. Hope he is well.
I don't think we would ever see that smoothnes and gnar he had in the 90's if he had a different mind. He's a bit out there. In his own world. Honestly you can see it in his eyes. You shouldn't be doing frontside flips over handrails down a huge set of stairs while being that calm. As if he's not even there. Is one thing to do it now,but back then he was breaking new ground. And to still be that chill....He's different. In the 90's he was pushing the limits but later on he continued being what a real skater is to me. Somebody who just skates. He didn't care about anything. He just skated for the fun of it.
I get those giggles and sore cheek smiles when he keeps landing trick after better trick, after insane trick after unbelievable trick after etc etc....... And the no music Is the best music to me.

Thrasher refers to itself as The Bible and yet J Wray, Penny, and Guy never won SOTY.
None of those guys killed it all year. Maybe if they counted Instagram clips, Guy would have won.
