  • Scott Eggener, MD, University of Chicago, and Jonathan Epstein, MD, The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, join the show to debate whether Gleason Score 6 prostate cancer should be renamed to non-cancer.
We discuss what should happen upon diagnosis of Gleason grade 6, disease which patients should be offered active surveillance, the benefits and risks of not calling this diagnosis “cancer,” how often and how frequently to biopsy, over screening, and many other discussion points.
Read Dr. Eggener’s editorial in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

This is a highly-debated topic and these two professors did not disappoint. Don't forget to visit my website at www.chadinabhan.com and let me know what you think. Also, refer friends and colleagues to the show, rate it, and hit the subscribe button.

Amazing conversation. Gives me renewed hope for our medical system. Active surveillance with appropriate follow-up treatment seems like a solid approach until detection (through biopsy, mri, or otherwise) becomes less harmful.

Thank you gentlemen! Just recently diagnosed with Gleason 6, my urologist is having a 2nd biopsy rating to confirm the scoring, his concern is my 10.5 PSA and the 2 lesions on the MRI.
