Thank you so much. I really appreciate being shown how you set the depth levels for the macro knobs. One of the hardest parts about programming the circuit synths is having to figure out mod control assignments through the macros and how they relate to the mod matrix. You'd think 8 knobs would be enough, but it's a huge limitation to patch control and I have a hard time figuring out what should be linked together to create the desired sound.
Glad it could be helpful! For sure, figuring out the macros and mod matrix is one of the harder things to learn about programming the Circuit. So much potential when you figure it out, though!
This is pure gold! I have been looking everywhere for something like this. Would like to see some more about the LFO in next video's :-) Also an additional question regarding the filter, the Env2 > Freq, what does it actually do. I can hear its something similar to the cut off, and can be controlled with macro knob parameter "Env 2 mod" I would like to know what it does specifically though.
Thank you! Glad it could be helpful! :) Great question. The Env2 > Freq parameter controls how much the filter envelope (env 2) modulates the filter frequency. So if it's zero, the envelope doesn't affect the filter at all. But if you turn Env2 > Freq up and turn the filter frequency down, you can hear envelope 2 modulate the filter frequency. It might be more apparent if you adjust envelope 2's attack, then you can hear the filter frequency slowly rise as a note is held. With the env 2 mod up and filter frequency down, having a short decay and sustain near zero is great for quick notes, like in an arpeggio. Hope that makes sense!
@@PaytonCarterMusic Yes, i understand now :). Thanks for the help, really appreciate it. I've roamed the entire internet for video's about the circuits components editor. Mainly they use the Isotonik editor in the other vids out there and they never really explain what they are doing, just basically pointing out where the buttons are. The way you explain and describe things beats every other video out there, i am sure you will make alot of people really happy with this! BIG like and subbed!
This is great. I've literally never used the patch tool even though I've had my Circuit for a couple months since it looked so complicated (new to synths and such). Going to try some of this stuff now.
Thank you, glad it could be helpful! The Components editor is honestly laid out in a very organized and intuitive fashion. Even if you have absolutely no idea what you're doing, it's a whole lot of fun to just mess around and tweak everything, which is basically what I did when I was starting!
maybe a dumb question, but how can i preview my synth patches when in the editor? as it is i'm not getting any sound from any button on the circuit when hooked up to Components. i can only hear the Samples when i click on them...
Interesting, you should be able to hear any changes made in the Components editor live when connected to the Circuit and you play the synth track keys. It would be editing one of the two current patches, which can be selected in the editor. That's the only way I know of to preview the sounds. If that doesn't work, I'd check with Novation about a possible bug.
I have this exact same issue, "play synth track keys" ... [edit] ... Ah, so this is why it has to change modes between editor & librarian. In Editor mode you can sample the synth simply by playing notes on the Circuit as long as you have the same synth selected. Thanks
Hey! super appreciate the video, though i'm really confused on how you are getting live feedback with components editor. i can't for the life of me get any info on this, any help would be appreciated!
Thanks Duncan! If you have the Circuit connected with USB, any changes you make in the Components editor should be immediately applied to the Circuit, so you can hear it when you play on the Circuit. It just edits the current patch, but isn't saved if you change patches; if you want it to be permanent, you need to save the patch .sysex and send it over. Is that what you're referring to?
Really usefull! I've benn creating patches but didn't know how to use LFO to give movement to the soud. Is it possible to assign a macro knob to the modulation matrix and apply as much lfo as you want?
You bet it is! I think I cover what you're asking about around the 10:30 mark of the video. In the mod matrix, select an LFO as a source and whatever you'd like to modulate (filter cutoff is a great starting point) as a destination. Leave the depth at zero. Go to the macro page, select a macro, and select whatever mod matrix slot you just edited as the destination. If you increase the depth of the macro, you can the control the depth of the LFO's modulation by turning the macro knob. Hope that makes sense!
Not here, I'm just playing on the Circuit pads. I do have a MIDI controller at my desk I sometimes use (Acorn Instruments MasterKey 49), and I'll also infrequently hook up the Circuit to my Clavinova digital piano.

Thanks man, just what I needed to convince myself to get back into making music. :)
this is brilliant. Just subscribed and am excited to watch your other videos. Cheers
You are a god for providing these patches
Thank you! Especially your demonstration of depth setting is super useful
Glad it could be useful! That was definitely one of the more confusing things when I was starting out with the Circuit.
Really Nice!!!! congrats!
Amazing tutorial - clearly explained, well paced. Thanks for these insights!
Thanks bro. Helped me ALOT
The synth engine is extremely versatile.
fantastic
Thank you so much for these! Plucky bass sound next?
Another great idea! :)
A very good explanation. Thanks a lot for this. 👍
Really nicely explained. Thanks!

thank you for sharing your method
Is this editor still available? I downloaded the most recent but this editor looks much better.
Lovely. Almost forgot what the Circuit can do. Wouldn’t it be great if you could layer both synths?
Thank you! Please Novation, all I want is a Circuit Pro with 4 synth tracks! (and throw in chromatic sampling while you're at it)
That's awesome bro thanks for sharing. Could you please make some more of this tutorials with dirty nasty sounds textures?
Thanks
Thank you! I'm not the greatest at the hard/gritty sounds, but I'll see if I can give it a shot!

Yep, Novation recently redid Components with the release of the Circuit Tracks, and it looks very different from this video now.

you need to have a midi type A adapter for the Lauchkey mk3 mini. The circuit uses type B.
