I used to be a drummer and a pianist, but due to developing arthritis in my hands, and constant hand tics caused by my Tourettes Syndrome, I can't play them anymore. Being able to build a piece of music in your own time, in an easy to access way through the Circuit Tracks seems really cool! I appreciate you putting these tutorials together for us!

You are the Man! One thing that's ruff about a new instrument is not much information out there. I will say that before you replace everything listen to all the loaded projects. I had no idea there is dubstep BASS in synths. Adjusting the resonance and modulation knobs on one of the bass presets starts to wobble and is a bit difficult to get fast adjustments for any forever knob but it's sounds I didn't know I had.
I know everyone is busy with Rhythm stuff right now, but would you consider doing a video on making common synth sounds with components editor? Specifically growly and dirty stuff would be helpful for me, but I think in general it could be a good video.

I had this loaded from the other day and when had the chance to watch, it refreshed away. :D This video is beyond where I'm at now, but *ideally* I want to pull my fave patches off my Alesis QSR locally to my Tracks or the sdcard so I can leave the Alesis home or abandon entirely. In this regard, I'm hoping midi files are universal and 'easily' pulled off the Alesis; as opposed to the additional hurdle of creating new wav files and sampling those into the Tracks. It's not hundreds of patches I want, but even dozens could either by a few minutes of procedural automation or days of manual labor. Thanks for all these vids, Gabe!

This wouldn't be my go-to for that, since the amount of sample time it can hold is relatively short. The Circuit Rhythm can do more, but it's still only around 3 minutes if I recall correctly. You might be better served by something like an MPC.
10:58... The model for testing-out the Synth settings while authoring a patch in Components is not clear to me. It sounds like you use the Circuit Tracks directly as a trigger? How does this work? Are you monitoring audio through the computer or through the headphone jack of of Tracks? Are you using the Tracks as a MIDI trigger? Something else? Thanks!

A quick question: I have several packs on my Circuit tracks and I'm looking to manage them and their location in the pack selector on the tracks.. is there anyway to move the 'slot' a pack occupies on the tracks via components? I have had no luck removing them from the Tracks via components or the SD card (the SD card contents appear garbled when I plug it into my computer)

Thank you 🙏 I just got an sd card and i succesfuly loaded some of my own samples....but when i do that it seems the synth 1 and 2 sounds are gone....i just have 2 basic sounds. Is it possible to do a whole pack and keep the Novation synth sounds and to add my own drum/tones etc samples on drum 1.2.3 etc slots ? Also in component i only visualise pages 1 and 2...how can i see all ?? Thank you !
6:01 This is something that could easily be fixed with a simple browser extension/console script. I would happily write it myself but unfortunately I don't have the OG Circuit to test it with. I'm sure this is something that the community will solve very quickly (if not already).
I've recently bought Circuit Tracks, I was disappointed to find that there are no factory synth patches in the components software. Every third party VST synth that I've bought has come with lots of presets to get you started. Are there any free presets on the net? or user forums where I can swap patches and samples? otherwise it's going to take forever to programme 64 patches from scratch.
Question - I just bought a Circuit Tracks. At the beginning of your video you mention hooking up Tracks to the PC via USB. The only USB I see is the thin newer style USB C type plug (with both end radius symmetrical) instead of the USB type B found on the Circuit Groove Box. On the Tracks I know this USB C connector is for charging the battery, is it also for sending data through components? When I took it out of the box I asumed the sd card had to be taken out and placed in a reader then hooked to a PC for changing packs. I'm confused!
Glad they've been helpful! And yes the packs can be loaded into the Circuits from Windows, and they're made up of WAV files which can be used on anything.
I am now looking at Components in hopes I can slide samples around from within the circuit, not just between the computer and circuit. That we can duplicate, copy or otherwise save one project, track, scene and other stuff to different slots here and there in either circuit, yet can't move samples around in the sample bank is an oversight. Easy enough in Components, but this should be doable in-situ.
I don't understand the patch editor. Are you obliged to guess how the patch sounds while you are editing it? Or is there some way of having the patch editor actually produce the sound you are editing? I have my Tracks connected with the USB part and the green circle in the upper right hand corner. Is there some other way of connecting it? Does it require a MIDI template?
Make sure you try formatting it using your computer first, they usually don't come in FAT32 format by default, but you can convert them. Although if it's the wrong size or not Class 10 or greater, then yeah you'll need to get a different one. Glad the video helped!
I have a problem with loading in samples. some of the samples I took out of the ableton sample libary have a klick soung at their end as soon as i load them in the circuit. Is there a solution to this problem?
Thanks Gabe. The thing I don't get is how to play a patch while in Components. If I expand a pack I see a speaker icon next to each patch but clicking on it does nothing (on my computer or the Circuit - although I like to unplug the circuit because the noise that comes out of it when it is plugged in to USB-C is terrible). Similarly in the patch editor - you have this complex synth with no way to actually quickly hear what you are creating. Having to send a patch to the circuit and play it there is a heckuva sucky workload.
I upload your sample pack to my microsd using components, it's working fine, but I do not see the pack in MY PACKS section within the components. How do you it?
Plugged in SD Card, it's formatted already in FAT but it appears I need to create subfolders? Quick tutorial on making sure the SD card works would be cool. In error, I erased all the factory presets because the unit didn't recognize my SD card.
Are the synth engines on the Tracks the same as the Original? I'm wondering if I can follow along with this patch editor, because I have the original and all the patch editor tutorials specifically for it are using an older build of components that looks way different.
The synth engines are the exact same, so yeah, a good bit of it should translate. The controls might look a bit different, but the underlying tools will be the same.
After watching your videos, I have purchased a Novation Circuit Tracks. It's an amazing instrument/device. I'm a bit worried that something is wrong with it though because when I try to send packs to the device, it keeps cutting off. I have turned off the Mass Media Storage mode and this is still happening. I don't know if this is normal or if my Micro SD is dodgy.

Not sure about Tracks but on the OG Circuit, when connected to your PC and to Components (green checkmark in Components) you can go to Synth1 on the Circuit and just play the synth patch you currently have set up in Components as well as tweak the parameters with the knobs.
I just tested the software. Is there a way I can hear my changes in real time? I downloaded the pack and than needed to upload again to hear my changes. But I am not willing to design a sound like this. There must be a way to hear what your changed.
The one shot pack for me only loads to the Samples section but not patches. and it seems like I'm missing some sounds from the pack (like Bass and Lead) when I load it on the Tracks but my storage isn't full. Does the one shot syx file not work as a Patch?
They're samples, not synth patches, so you can only upload them to the "drums" section. If you're on the Tracks, the easiest way to deal with them will be to unload the Circuittrackspack file, or if you're the original, you can upload the dedicated drum file as a batch. Hopefully that helps!

You can upload multiple midi templates and assign them to the separate midi tracks. When you have a midi track pulled up on the Circuit, hit the presets button to choose from the different templates. These are also the slots that are available to be overwritten with your own templates.
Any way to convert the OG Circuit Sessions to Tracks-compatible Projects (formerly Sessions)? EDIT: It's possible. See the following: The key is to export everything individually, while in the Circuit section of Components (WHILE you own an OG Circuit), and then Create a Pack (inside Components / Circuit Tracks).. and manually drag all the stuff in (Sessions/Projects, Patches, Samples). Saving entire Packs from Components / OG Circuit and then loading into Circuit Tracks (via Components) is buggy as hell. Always export everything individually (heads-up to OG Circuit owners!). Wonky behavior, though--- a lot of the original Sessions won't load (they give an error) from these older packs, especially the Circuit Team pack. None of those Sessions work, sadly, when dragging into Projects, in Circuit Tracks / Components. I've experienced this with some others, like Shawn Rudiman's pack.
Hi, i cant figure out how to overwrite 1-st slot of internal memory - when im trying to upload project or overwrite the whole pack - i see an error message "There was a problem sending content to Circuit Rhythm"... somebody knows how to solve it?

How do I send a saved project on Components back to my Circuit Track device? I ask because when I turned on the device today all of my projects were gone (which had been there for weeks) but I backed up a few of them to Components.

Can I create an empty pack in the Rhythm and sample in all my sounds, In the event I am away from the computer and unable to get to components? Is there a way to access sounds from other packs without components?
As far as I know, you can create an empty pack, but all the packs act entirely separately from each other. You can duplicate packs directly on the Circuit though. I did a dedicated video on sampling/loading samples onto the Rhythm which might be helpful.

Quick question while your here, 1. in the lazy slice mode (ie. slice>16 slices>note>expand) can I record the actions to a pad for later use? A. Most likely while the record is active, right? 2. After resample, will the recorded parts be saved as a file in the device so i can drag it to the computer or what not? Sorry, at work. So the questions may be obvious.
All good. The lazy chop state is saved in a project but not on the sample itself. And yes, you can download a recorded sample onto your computer with Components. Also, I did a beginner Circuit Rhythm tutorial and that shows how to lazy chop if I recall correctly.

I guess you should have mentioned that you need a Chromium-based browser (Chromium, Chrome, Edge and I believe Opera) for the Circuit to get recognized, because of the web-MIDI implementation.
@@GertBoers Linux is my daily workhorse since about 20 years. I once tried Chromium with Web midi on Linux, but had no success. If you say it works, this great news for me.

Would be great if loading the sample packs went as fast as draggin/dropping into Components. Man, they need to tweak that. Fat32 is TRASH and SLOW as hell. Should be exFAT if anything.

I had the same problem, just make sure you use the headphone jack or the audio out, aparently circuit doesnt send audio over usb.

I managed to figure this out. It can be tricky.
1. - Can you work on novation components creating packs offline? (without the circuit tracks hardware being powered on and plugged in)?

16gb san disk is like#1 on the list are super cheap, and I don't think tracks files take up much space

I noticed there is no tab for synth 2 like on the original . Is there no way to edit both at once anymore ?
There's no difference between synth 1 and 2, both can access all four pages of patches.

I fixed this, don't use Samsung 32GB SD cards, now this synth is awesome.

Curious how much of this carries over to Rhythm is it basically the same?

How do I send a saved project on Components back to my Circuit Track device? I ask because when I turned on the device today all of my projects were gone (which had been there for weeks) but I backed up a few of them to Components.
You can drag saved projects into packs like you can with samples and patches.

Can I create an empty pack in the Rhythm and sample in all my sounds, In the event I am away from the computer and unable to get to components? Is there a way to access sounds from other packs without components?
As far as I know, you can create an empty pack, but all the packs act entirely separately from each other. You can duplicate packs directly on the Circuit though. I did a dedicated video on sampling/loading samples onto the Rhythm which might be helpful.

Quick question while your here,
1. in the lazy slice mode
(ie. slice>16 slices>note>expand)
can I record the actions to a pad for later use? A. Most likely while the record is active, right?
2. After resample, will the recorded parts be saved as a file in the device so i can drag it to the computer or what not?

All good. The lazy chop state is saved in a project but not on the sample itself. And yes, you can download a recorded sample onto your computer with Components.
Also, I did a beginner Circuit Rhythm tutorial and that shows how to lazy chop if I recall correctly.

Hi Gabe, I'm all new to the circuit track and find your videos very helpful! Thank you for all of the work you have done! I have just got your one-shot pack but can't seem to upload the WAV sounds to the circuit tracks via components. It keeps saying Error wrong extension. Anyone could help me with this ? Thanks in advance :)
Is it possible to load and packs without an SD card?
If I recall correctly, you can load one pack at a time with no SD card.

We need a vid how to do it on a circuit rythm bcuz man its difficult......i should of just saved up for the MPC ONE.
I did do a video on how to do it on the Rhythm, as well as how to record stuff directly in.
I guess you should have mentioned that you need a Chromium-based browser (Chromium, Chrome, Edge and I believe Opera) for the Circuit to get recognized, because of the web-MIDI implementation.
Or you can use the standalone version of Components.

@@GertBoers Linux is my daily workhorse since about 20 years. I once tried Chromium with Web midi on Linux, but had no success. If you say it works, this great news for me.

Would be great if loading the sample packs went as fast as draggin/dropping into Components. Man, they need to tweak that. Fat32 is TRASH and SLOW as hell. Should be exFAT if anything.
