UPDATE! My packs are now Circuit Tracks compatible! Check your purchase on Gumroad to get a new download. Also, I've made a mega pack for Circuit Tracks that includes packs 1 and 2 plus new sample content! Get that here: redmeansrecording.gumroad.com/l/rmr_ctracks_01
Brought back memories of this fun activity with my Circuit & Volca sample. Now i just dump everything on a huge SD card and slide it into the Deluge :)
Was just thinking - maybe we should petition Novation to allow sample looping and envelope control. Novation are great with firmware updates and being able to use short cycle waveforms as extra synth parts would be awesome.
nice to see that with the advent of 2020 tech, we are still suffering, and working past with the same techniques, used since 1996 on the amiga... it wouldn't surprise me if the users of the fairlight did the same thing!
Kelvin Mead I think this is because the Circuit has been stretched by both Novation and users way beyond its initial design intent. That is a good thing in my opinion.
Tip: you can do the stretching (or rather "squeezing") and pitching on the command line with rubberband (Open Source, www.breakfastquay.com/rubberband/ ): rubberband -t 0.25 -p 24 It's easy to write a Shell or BAT script to do that for a whole folder of WAV files. No need for commercial software.
You've referred to the same "problem" in the past and it keeps me thinking if pre-processing -at least- paid packs that way would be a useful thing for such sampler users...
For those of us without Audition, would it be possible to do this just through Ableton? Adding the sample pack will load each file into their own track. Select all of the tracks, turn off Warping, and transpose them up 24 semitones. Consolidate them all at once and they'll show up as .wavs in the project's "Consolidated" folder. Convert to AIFF 16-bit in Foobar and you're good to go? I don't have a Circuit (though now I really do) so I don't know how well this works. And I love that groove at the end, very nice.
Could also just cut those chords in half as it's mostly silence. Not clued on with the novation but using a loop and or decay parameter will clean up the tail of the cut sample.
If I understand it all right you speed it up with 1.25 time? is this the maximum my circuit can pitch it down if I turn the knob full counter clockwise? If this is the right way I can do it with audacity :D this would be a shortened sample from original 9.09 secs to 7.27. BTW I love audacity. such a powerhorse for a free program. Cheers Jeremy
After buying mounds of stuff, the Circuit is still my favorite instrument years later. I reach for it before I reach for any of the other hardware in my studio: - Digitakt - Digitone - MODX - Blofeld - Matriarch - oodles of Eurorack - TR8s - MPC One - Volcas - MicroFreak - OP-Z - OP-1 It makes things happen in such a quick and intuitive way that tracks just pour out of it. And it leaves room for awesome happy accidents. Their components site is endless fun. So easy. Love love love it.
I like the circuit for the fact I can take it anywhere without the need for power or even a battery pack. I can take it in the car, or a bus, or my favorite... a plane!! Its a portable mini studio! My digitakt is still my favorite. Songs just pour out of the digitakt... now the two in combination synced via midi and powered by a battery bank = the best portable studio ever!!!
I have a question: I have been trying to create and jam over the summer on the abelton Push for the first time, and I always struggle to stick with an idea because I want everything to be perfect. How do you stop yourself from being a perfectionist? Btw I absolutely LOVE your vids, keep up the good work and please don't give up!
Something that works for me is setting a time limit to finish a track, maybe an hour or two. It really forces you to think fast and not worry too much about the fine details
@Red Means Recording Edit: just seen somebody else made this point already 😅 Ah, then I think you'd get greater control by changing sample rate and bit depth directly in the batch processing. Could emulate the specific compression settings of classic samplers
I am interested in getting a sampler. I have never used one and some of them get pricey fast. These seem to be trending at ~$300. Do you recommend this as an entry level grid style sampler?
BackspinZX I have both and i tought that Circuit made the Volca useless but no... they are very different and i’m happy with them ;) ...Volca Sample have much more editing on samples while Circuit is better (faster) in sequencing
3:15 ding ding I was correct. Fun fact: back in the days we used to sample record at 45 or higher and pitch it down in the sp1200, Roland s950 or mpc60 to make the most of our limited time available to sample. It added a nice crunchy sound to the samples. Sometimes limitations can spark creativity. Which is why less is more. Don’t get caught up in the vast majority of plugins and gear. Pick a few items or a handful of plugins and get GOOD with just those.

I honestly need you to do more circuit stuff..
MEGA same.
that's probably the nicest Circuit jam i ever heard !
I love that this is still a totally valid trick for modern samplers. I use this all the time on my Roland S550 (1.26 MB of sample space lol)

Excellent jam session in one take! Great 🔈🔉🔊
Thanks! Very much appreciated.
I was just about to sweep the dust from my Circuit and use it as a sampler (with some synths) and your video popped up.
Nice tips here. I've been following a similar workflow getting things onto my Elektron Model:Samples lately (which has a TON of storage space on it).

NOTE: Remove the trailing parethenthesis ) from that URL for it to work correctly :)
Oooooh thank you this is exactly what I was about to google for hahahaha
Here's the github repo for Rubberband: github.com/breakfastquay/rubberband
Thanks for a walkthrough of the workflow! I always find these kinds of videos interesting

A want to hear an extended remix of your USB connection diddy !
That was so cool! Inspired me to get properly into my Circuit!

You can't do that it the circuit
@@RedMeansRecording ok.. you can still cut those samples in half and fade the tail out in whatever software
I wish I had 1/100th of your skills, I could die happy ..👍🏼😊

nice i use this same tactic w my korg volca sample 🧠
Links for where to d/l good sample packs?
Is it possible to delete only one sample or two, instead delete all on librarian?? Thanks for your videos!
Man you rock I wish I could hear more of that I have to subscribe
I wonder how many circuit owner never connect it to a computer, and are missing out on these features
too many thats for sure!! I need to give my circuit more love

Stranger Sun How about 1010 Black Box? I’d be curious what you think after all that...
I have a question:

You have to make the choice that finishing is more important than being perfect. Perfect is the enemy of good.

Thanks!
Take part in competitions (with your friends or online) or do something like "10 tracks in one day" or "1 track per day for a week/month".
Jeremy, have you tried this with your Mophagene to fit more onto a reel?
It would work
Dude i just got one of these, Moooorrrreeeee.
If I’m understanding right, doing this effectively reduces the sample rate of the samples?
Yeah
@Red Means Recording Edit: just seen somebody else made this point already 😅

Sure thing
it does not allow you to sample directly from the machine though. Maybe an electribe s could be a bit more suited to your needs
Very nice tutorial, I always wanted to buy the Circuit, if I can find it used at a good price I take it, I really like it :-D
A) thanks for the tip, gonna try this with my Volca Sample, and B) *stop making me want a Circuit!*
BackspinZX I have both and i tought that Circuit made the Volca useless but no... they are very different and i’m happy with them ;) ...Volca Sample have much more editing on samples while Circuit is better (faster) in sequencing
1 min and 30,secs in guessing the old emu sp1200 trick will be the answer

What's the track at the end of the video!? gave me instant stank-face. 🌶
I've been trying to find one of these lately, they are getting hard to find for some reason.
Lockdown is the reason I believe :/
@@IntimateNoise yeah. Everyone is getting rid of the circuit mono though.
Lo fi is best fi.
Who else got an earworm at 4:00 without the actual song being played? 😄😄😄
Duuuuuuuuuuuudddeeeeee 🤤
Sneaky!
I love your channel but background music is distracting in a tutorial. Don’t remember you using it before. Sorry to be that guy.
I ll buy 1010 and that ll fix it all rutineboolsheet
